This is a quote from Johnny The Homicidal Maniac: Directors Cut, that I think goes for girls, women, boys and men alike: " Any pile of stunted growth unaware that entertainment is just that and nothing more deseves to doom them selves to some dank cell, somewhere for having been so stupid. Movies , books , TV, THey're all just entertainment, not guide books for damning yourself!!!" I am a gamer girl and no video games don't make me more violent, just more aware of how ******** up and twisted this world is. Why are girls always portraiyed as being naive and frail. We can take the Guts, We can take the pain! We do give birth yanno. It's a fact women have a higher pain thresh hold than men.

I actually did a 10 page research paper on this subject for my final college project, and you can try to deny it all you want, but the fact of the matter is being exposed to any sort of violence be it through TV, video games, movies, music, or real life experiences, that experience will cause aggression to rise. No, it is NOT the reason that people become violent, it is merely the reason that they get angry more quickly than they would without that kind of influence, but really you've got to have self control.
I mean, you can't honestly pretend that you can play GTA all day sawing people apart with chainsaws and then when you're done you say you feel perfectly calm and normal? It's not true. After seeing that much violence you are bound to be quicker to get angry and quicker to react on that anger.

I hate when teh press try to pin games as violice-induser. It's really cuz of the wars & terrorism that's happening in the world.

They said the same thing about guys...the only thing I'll agree with is it gives them ideas on how to be more violent, it doesnt exactly say "you must go out and beat up the first 20 people you see...OOooooOOo". rofl

Hmm....I'm only violent when I'm really angry at a guy. And it's not like I beat the crap out of them or anything. It's usually what I call the "iron poke" (looks harmless, but feels deadly. Makes 'em look like ninnies when they cry out, "OUCHIE!"). Or I smack them with a folder or something like that. If it's a girl, I use my razor-sharp tongue. whee
Anyhoo....I don't think it's the video-games that make me "violent." My family has a history of bad temper, and we usually just yell when we're angry. sweatdrop
Though I must admit, I was a bit worried when I became all excited when I was watching my big brother play Hitman 4 today.

feiry_fawna They said the same thing about guys...the only thing I'll agree with is it gives them ideas on how to be more violent, it doesnt exactly say "you must go out and beat up the first 20 people you see...OOooooOOo". rofl It's called desensitization. It's the constant exposure to violent behavior, not the violent behavior itself, that influences people to react to situations more aggressively. It isn't just games, either. It can also be the people you associate with. For example, there's a community on LiveJournal called childfree_hardcore. People who don't want children and don't like children post here, often in insultingly, about the "moos" with their spoiled "cuntfruit" and "crotchdroppings" in public, online, etc. Phrases like this, and the attitude that "those people" have no rights whatsoever, are common on this community. Now. Some time ago, one of the members decided to stalk -- offline -- a parent who had posted on the community. This member found the woman's address and phone number, and started leaving her harrassing phone calls and mail. The woman figured out who was behind it, and decided to press charges for stalking. (The stalker's parents begged her not to, by the way. Very ironic, a rabid childfreer's parents coming to her rescue. She continued with the charges anyway.) In the LiveJournal community, attacking parents was acceptable. The stalker lost sight of the fact what is acceptable in an online community is not acceptable in the real world, and will most likely have more unpleasant consequences for her than her target. The same thing can happen with violence. Back in the 90s, during the big gang wars in LA, ER doctors had written in their reports about gang members complaining about how much being shot or stabbed hurt -- that it wasn't like the movies where you'd get back up. Like it or not, people are affected by what they see and hear in any type entertainment. If they weren't, commercials wouldn't work.

Pirri There was an article recently in the British Daily Telegraph that pointed to movies as causing girls to be more violent. It's bullshit, to my mind -- girls have always had the potential to be violent, but socialized not to be. I'm expecting to hear about video games making girls more violent, anyday now. 3nodding i totally agree with that.. we have been violent. xP

Casseh Valentine If a chick acts violent, its her own fault. You can't blame a game. Or a movie. When you watch a violent movie, you decide how you want to act upon seeing it either being unfazed, changed in some way, or act with more violence. Its all up to you. Doi. stressed I agree with you 100% 3nodding

Here's my 2cents. I don't think any game, movie, music, etc can make anyone do something they wouldn't do already. If they are going to be violent in a situation it's because deep inside it felt good for them (probably from the adrenaline high), not because they saw it on a game or something.

*twirls iron pipe in hands*
Well I play Silent Hill a lot and it's never affected me.
But seriously, I play violent and scary games all the time and the worst it's ever done is give me trippy dreams. In the situation of the game you have to be violent to live. Like if I didn't kill the nurses in Silent Hill 2 they'd kill me.
But there's no real reason to react with violence in real life.
When we're under attack by a plague of zombie nurses though, just give me a call. smile
