My friends are totally like the way you explain this. Especially my band. Some people say I'm too obsessed with green day and i shouldn't know everything about them but that just makes me happy. biggrin screw you assholes who just started liking green day. American Idiot is great, but seriously, if you were a true green day fan, where were you a decade ago?? I agree with you guys who hate how their friends are changing to like green day just because of american idiot!

LONG LIVE GREEN DAY! SONS OF BITCHES!!! YAAAAA! scream

y'know but sometimes there's a good side and a bad side to wether your friedn start to actually like them.. or just fake liking them because they're at the top right now... but that's where people like us or whatever should show them old songs and make them listen to the,. i guess practially force them to. but how can you say screw you to the people who've just started to like them. everyone has to start at a certain place don't they?
it's not like EVERYONE here has liked them way back since Dookie.
let alone started to like them since 1039 or when they were Sweet Children. i highyl doubt that. but, the people who really like them now even if thei just barely new of them are still considered fans. they just didn't know about Green Day or weren't aware of how great they were until they heard AI. give them a chance. 3nodding

Exactly. You can't tell people they can't like Green Day if they didn't start listening to them way back when. It's not like there is a cutoff date.

"Oh you just started getting into Green Day a week ago and you really like them? Oh dear, I'm sorry. You aren't allowed to enjoy thier music. I'm afraid that you're past the deadline. You'll just have to listen to something else."

Not everyone had heard Green Day before, and now they have. If they like the music, they can consider themeselves a fan just as much as any of us can.

Hear hear!!! Well said!! *applauds*
And in reponse to the 'where the hell were you a decade ago?' queston, I was EIGHT a decade ago...I hadn't yet realised music had words in...I thought it was just noise. sweatdrop
It's scary that these guys have been making great music since I was two... gonk

although i do think all those ******** posers who think green day are new should be packed into a spaceship and blasted into orbit.

But remember, the more albums the teenies buy, the more money in our boys' pockets, thus the more money they can spend on making their music as great as they can possibly get it!
And more high-budget videos too....

y'know i don't think they care much for profit. i think the ideal of having people everywhere enjoy your music is great to them. i mean it's probably nice to get profit at what you do the best or whatever but it's not like
"oh buy all my cd's so i can be a gazillionaire!" or something...
but idk, they could have some sort of greedy side to them whee
i mean they recorded some of their cd's in less than a week or something like that. like 1039 it's a great cd. and it sounds so raw and awesome.
i love that from them 3nodding
but the video thing is a good point. but even so.

your idea of what to do with the "poseurs" is quite funny

you can do that. it really annoys them.

but seriously only a handful of 'new' fans really like the music the rest are just following the trend and dont have a clue where the music comes from or what its about or they wouldnt act the way they do.

I am a new fan. Like, a few months. I know a lot about Green Day. I know how many songs they have, I know each of their birthdays, I know most of their lives, I know a lot of songs, and I think I am a true GD fan. Also, I have about 200 pictures of them on my computer, and I spent hours researching them and stuff about them and songs and videos I haven't seen. So yeah. What if I'm a new fan? What if AI got me into them? I know a lot about them now, hell, I probably know more about GD than some people who liked them since, I don't know, Insomniac. (Not saying it is a fact, just saying to prove a point.)

Not to start a new battle, but having the most pictures saved on your computer or knowing the most miniscule facts about a band does not necessarily make you the biggest fan. It's just about the music and how it makes you feel. I wish more people realized that...

And as for the money issue up there, Peeko has it right. Bands make a fraction a cent for each CD sold. The record companies are the ones making the real money there. Concerts are where bands earn the most 3nodding

exactly, just cause you can download pictures of them, doesnt necessarily mean you are listening to them for the right reasons. In fact the first thing that teenie boy-band groupies usually do is to download hundreds of photos and learn stupid facts about a band. As long as you listen to them cause you like music and appreciate the lyrical genius of them rather than because they are overplayed on mtv and radio or because its the latest trend.

Did i say that? then it must be right blaugh

Ok, in relation to the "12 year olds liking Green Day" thing (I don't feel like quoting something that big...), I believe that some 12 year olds can completely comprehend every Green Day song better than some 16 to 18 year olds can. 12 year olds these days aren't the 12 year olds of 10 years go.

12 year olds have no idea about relatonships and marriage, they simply arent old enough yet to understand. full stop. How can someone who's had a relationship cause they are far too young by decades understand songs like 'worry rock' it just simply isnt possible. I'd say probably only a few percent of people claiming they are fans actually know what the songs are about and have expereinced anything like it.

Hmmm, that's true. Twelve year old kids wouldn't understand the concepts of songs like Worry Rock and Church on Sunday. I agree with you on that. 3nodding

But I still do think that twelve year olds can still relate to many of Green Day's songs. Mind you, I'm not speaking about all twelve year olds, because that certainly isn't the case. But a select few can. So I still think twelve year olds can be true Green Day fans.

(Oh, this is still +Heart Grenade+ sweatdrop )

wow this this is still going. Oh i just found out that Billie is on the top banner cover of Teen People magazine as the 'hottest guys of summer' i hope it won't welcome more posers, and that's not something us true Green Day fans should be happy about. why is he there?!?! stupid magazine and ARGH!

oh for sure we should welcome kiddo's that are having their introduction to rock/punk or just good music and help them out, but not the people that are only fans for AI. like the crazy people seen at TRL, i didn't see one face that looked like they listened to rock.

they can be but unfortunatly often arent. Its just that you are more influenced br trends and fashion at that age than later on in life. I'm sure some of them do understand the songs to a certain extent but i know i appreciated those songs alot more after i'd been through similar. I think they can grow with green day to be good fans xp

GAAA I found somthing else I can rant and rave about. OK I was walking down the hall of my school and I stoped to wait at my friends locker and there was this hole group of preps standing by me ((Ok I hate preps with a flamming passion, I had a bad history with them and we will leave it at that)) and they were going on about stuff that really didn't matter, When I heard them say "Like OMG Blink 182 and Green Day sound the exact same, like they don't have and good songs" other prep"Like I know, they so don't have any somge about Drugs or sex". I was so upset with them number 1. Green day don't sound the same as blink 182 because B182 sucks out loud 2. NO DRUGS OR SEX! HA they probaly have never heard any of there songs befor they are complete Moronic plastic wanna be bitched, DAMN THOSE POSER PREPS! scream
