People should always be friends before the romance. Spontaneous is nice, but it never lasts at all. You don't get the chance to still be together a while later and look back on good memories

I personally don't think love at first sight is realistic. You can't fall in love with someone just by looking at them, that's not love that's just shallow desire. To love someone you have to know them, you have to discover and accept their quirks and you have to understand their needs and desires as well as your own. You have to be prepared to give up everything for them and know they would do the same for you. Love is about sacrifice and love at first sight cannot exist because you can't know someone just by looking at them. I think the lifeguard at the beach is hot but the little girl I babysit tries telling me I love him when all I know is he's sixteen, his name is Josh and he's a lifeguard. It's just not possible.
Okay, my rant is over. I love romances with a history for example, I'm writing a potc fic about a nymph by the name of melliandra whom broke the code of the queens, which states that a princess must remain an innocent until the immortal king returns to plant his seed, by sleeping with Jack Sparrow. Now she's under a curse that can only be broken by the kiss of true love, the catch though that makes it different is any man who attempts to free her but isn't her true love dies from her kiss.
I like history in my romances...of course the stories where the soon to be couple have been friends all their lives and are just finally confessing their love 20 years later...those are always so cute...I'm writing one of those too.
I've written stories where it seems like love at first sight but really it's a desire for the person which develops in to love as they get to know each other. There's so many ways to present love...

I like the 'best friends turning, slowly, into more' type of thing. biggrin Makes me squee. The fact that it takes so freakin' long, and the fact that already they trust one another completely...

I like paranormal romance because after they meet the one person who is their life mate they will love, care and protect that person. Plus the fact that that person will never cheat on them because he cares only for their mate. But it can't be just be your my mate and that's that kind of thing. It has to be when the couple deals with the fact that the person may have not been the type of person they're hoping for and they learn to accpet each other to the point that they can truly say that they love each other. Plus there also has to be something else going on in the novel. Like they are trying to stolp an evil organization or trying to hide from someone who is tryin to kill them.

Forbidden love and tragedy are fun to write about, but they (mostly) never happen in real life.
Besides, hate-to-love is WAY too much fun to laugh about, too.

The most romantic thing a guy can do is remember things that are important to me and always be there for me when I really need him.

I personally like romances set back in time. I also really like romances where someone goes back in time or to another world and falls in love.

My fav romance is the probably a tie between love @ 1st sight, and Ying-Yang (ying-yang is 2 people that are alomst completely differnt)
Best fiends is always akward and painful but love @ 1st sight is like magic. and Ying-Yang is just more of a fun relationship, like bad boys and school guys

I like the kind of romance that has love triangles...heck...I love them all hehehe xp But seriously...I love the kind of romance when theres an ordinary boy or girl that just randomly one day wakes up to find themselfs in another world where they fall in love with the person that but only to know that they will have to separate in the end. I like stuff like that but of course I'd rather perfer if they end up together anyways heart

I'm not sure, I'd have to say forbidden love is my fav., I'd have to day. Best friend love and love at first sight are cute too.
I also like the romance like that they have met in a previous life, but really, any romance is fine. heart
