ur_girl_84 InfinitysDaughter In my mind, everything has a soul. In my oppinion, hummans are lower then animals because we have evolved to be mean and cruel to one another for no reason and animals verry rarely turn on one another for no reason. If you say someone like a human who kills for money has a soul, then you have to say that a wolf who only kills to survive has a soul. To me, thats just common sence. But thats just my oppinion. u make a very good point If you look critically at it, humans really aren't more or less cruel than any other animal, except that we're more aware of what others do and what the repercussions of those acitons are. Animals exclude ones from the group based on physical appearance (deformed animals, odd colors or sizes, etc. are usually picked on), the fight over territory, mates, and basic necessities, and they do kill each other, not always for food. I've seen male lions do some very creepy things before, as far as killing other lions for reasons no one can figure out.
In short, I've already given my opinion but... Humans have souls. Humans are animals, just like any other. Animals in general have souls.

yolantasiu Well, if you're a japanese, you would believe animals have souls. Its part of their lifestyle. It really depends on what religion you're in. I'm christian, but I believe they have souls! I could email my pastor about this. I'm not exactly sure if the bible says animal's don't have souls!

According to a priest I spoke to once, and some other religious people, they said somehting along those lines is mentioned. As I said, I'm not certain what the exact words used are.

I believe animals have souls just like everything else on this planet...including the earth itself. They have personalities and show emotion just like humans do. Our scientists say that we are the dominant species on this planet and that may be true to some extent, but I don't completely agree that we have a greater knowledge of things than animals. maybe animals havn't created technology in a way that it would be convenient to them because they perefer it that way. They have their own languages as well. Now...I don't know about the rest of you but I'm a God believer and maybe the reason the gap between "animal" and human speech cannot be breached is because they know things...we're not supposed to!

I'm Christian. I've read the Bible.
But I find it hard to think that animals don't have souls.
They must have. They have to have them.
And if they don't, then I guess we all become nothing but worm food when we die.

if you watch animal miracles youll see animals are gardians that protect us if we are kind animals even save us if we are not kind sometimes, animals are angels and humans are destructive animals with no hearts, only humans that have an animal's soul (like my soul I believe is a cat or rodent)has A heart (sorry for going on for hours)

Darth_Gently Ailinea I came across a topic like this in ED earlier, so I thought I'd bring it up here. Do you think animals have souls? I do realize by this being an animal guild, most of you will probably agree with me that they do have souls, so to expand on this subject, why do you think other people don't believe so? Personally I think religion has a lot to do with it. Most Christians believe that animals do not have souls, I think because it is in the Bible that it is not so. I'm not exactly sure on that, but I've heard from another source. Well, since I don't believe in souls period, I don't give a damn what animals have unless tasty in which case, hand it the ******** over, furry boy, then get in my frying pan. Better question: Would eating animals mean you eat their souls? Because if it does, I really can't taste it at all. frying pan what is that suposed to mean scream

[quote="nurikorox]duhh..of course they have souls, they are just like us, i mean i hate it when people think just because they cant talk or they're not as smart as us that they are not like us and they dont have souls but if there was a person that couldn't talk(mute) or a person that wasn't as smart as us(Disorders and whatever)we wouldnt consider them souless. [quote="Ailinea]I think a big problem some people have about not believing animals have souls is because they lack the inability to love as we humans do. I think they can love just as much, in not more, than humans can. smile An ajimal isn't going to care if you're male, female, white or black or green. If they love you, they love you; race, gender, religion doesn't matter to them, it seems. Quote: "Animals don't go to heaven!" Humans are animals. Quote: Well, since I don't believe in souls period, I don't give a damn what animals have unless tasty in which case, hand it the ******** over, furry boy, then get in my frying pan. ... Does this even deserve a reply? stare Quote: Ah, but they do talk. They merely use noises that we don't completely understand. Indeed. 3nodding Quote: how is it offensive its just a debate Yeah, but personally, I find it offensive when people say, "I don't give a crap if they have souls as long as they taste good." rolleyes Either way, my two cents: Humans have hearts and brains. But is that really the soul, and the mind? What makes us talk like we do, think like we do, carves out our likes and dislikes? The heart beats and the brain synapses fire thanks to electrical impulses. But what creates the electrical impulses? Maybe it's our soul. Either way, no matter what the soul is or isn't, I think animals have them.

I have already read the Bible verse and came to a conclusion: They do have souls. The verse is constantly misunderstood. It was a man questioning life. He was pretty much saying 'Who knows if either of us have souls'. In my on personal belief, people get too confused and mislead when they believe that human race is way powerful than animals. God meant for us to lead them and shepard them like if they are our children. We ate off the tree... no wonder we have the knowledge of technology, because it made us like the trinity. Animals didn't eat off of it. We search to much for convieniance more than survival. Us humans are too relaxed...well, most of us.

I don’t think that they do. I think that it would be very nice if they did however judging by nature we can tell that they don’t. People may call it culture, they may call it what ever they want, but it’s rightfully called a species difference.
For me what originally attracted me to animals was my faith. In the regards that no matter how animals mess up they don’t know right from wrong and there by have no active soul. My faith requires me to always do what is right not in my eyes but in the eyes of the Lord. We as humans have been given a beautiful earth, and even more beautiful creatures that roam, swim and fly on/around/in it, but we don’t take advantage of it. We as a race hurt the earth and so many animals by doing stupid things. We can never be true ‘humanitarians’ without eliminating ourselves completely, but we can at least do our part. We have a conscience, a sense of good and wrong, and animals don’t, no matter how much we would like to think they do. I enjoy seeing animals in the wild and I envy them because of the carefree life they have (in moderation), that’s why I originally got into fish, that and the reef destruction, was also a big factor where i live.

I don't really know what a soul is, but I think that if you think that people have them then animals must have them because in the end we're all animals anyway.

When I was little (and Christian) I asked several people this. My pastor, a teacher at the Christian school I went to, the principal, my parents...even a little book for answer's to kids' questions about the Bible. Teacher, pastor, and principal all said that animals are soulless. They said that the Bible said it, and in Genesis when humans were appointed Earth's rulers the fine print included the idea that they had no souls and needed human guidance because of it. Now, many also seem to interpret it as "We're higher beings and we can do whatever we want to animals because of this." Now, I'll be clear: I don't beleive in souls at all BUT I will answer this like I do. I think religion is a good thing overall anyway and respect its role in peoples' lives. Human beings can be evil. We can be downright terrible. However, we are sentient and aware of our actions and their reprocussions. We have a choice. Animals are valuable in our lives, and enhance them in so many ways we just can't count them. This commands our respect and love. Even abused animals forgive and care for people after being harmed. They aren't as intelligent as us but they feel just as deeply. Intelligence won't make a human mature, it won't make a human valuable. The human experiance is everything that makes us whole and a coherant society. If intelligence alone was what we had with no emotion, we'd be incapable of making descisions. Intelligence is great, but not the most important thing. Now if animals feel as deeply as humans, and the thing that makes all creatures successful is feeling, that is the essence of life. If humans and animals alike have this essence, then if there is such thing as a soul it only makes sense that they would have it, too. I understand, though, that I'm not entirely in on this so take my ideas or leave them and either way have a nice day!

In my personal opinion, religion is riddled with too much past and present corruption for me to lay my trust in them. Either they beg too much of the common man, have ridiculous requests to ascend to higher levels of being, or just seriously strike a cord with me on their rules and/or morals. As the argument has already been posted:
Humans have souls.
Humans are animals.
Whether you want to believe that much is up to you, but that's the basic facts right there. You cannot put the human race upon a pedestal from other earth occupants just because we can walk, talk, and overpopulate the world. We eat, drink, and sleep to survive like all oher wildlife.. We were lucky to have enough intelligence to think, create, and explore. Animals do the same thing but on a lower level, so it's not that big of an accomplishment. To me, animals have souls and I have always believed they've had souls. I was consistently told that they ascend to either the same heaven as humans or their own sister heaven after a few four-legged deaths in my prime.
And in all honesty..
-.-;;
..why is the Bible being referrenced as a viable source to this argument? It's a sacred text of gathered writings from many prophets, but there is no solid guarantee it was meant to be taken literally or figuratively. Not to mention there is always going to be conflict based on different interpretations by different branches of the Christian lineage. All we need now is the Koran, Torah, and a few Hindu/Buddhist writings to make this all a mad hodge-podge of bickering religions.
