Paestri squeaked as the dress dug into her skin, curiously she pointed her feet, toes trying to touch the ground but failing. She grabbed on Demare's hand, more for support than anything and she realized he had two different tastes.

"Um, it kinda hurts if you hold my dress like that." She winced, "And I don't know if I'm afraid of heights."

There was no fear, no shock, no signs of horror in the little girl's eyes. "You're Demian, aren't you?" she asked quietly.

Malady was cowering beneath Paestri's suspended form. It whined and whimpered, muttering curses and profanities at the halfling to let Paestri go.

His smirk faded at the mention of the name, quirking a brow. s**t... she could tell. Clare must have told her while he wasn't pay attention earlier. And why the hell wasn't she scared?

"What of it?" he grumbled, keeping her held up from the ground. There had to be SOMETHING he could do.

Paestri did her best to shrug, but her current position made it difficult. "Um, how long do you intend to keep me hanging?" she asked, "My brother's gonna get worried and he might not let me out by myself anymore." she explained. "And could you put be down, please? It's starting to sting."

"Y-you heard her! Put her the ******** down!" Malady screeched from below, still cowering from Demare.

Demare hissed at Malady, beginning to find it irritating. For something that couldn't cause any harm, it was almost as bad as Chrys. The girl wanted down, huh? Fine. He'd let her down.

"I don't give a damn if someone's gonna get worried, as it's not my concern," he sneered, stepping closer to a near by tree. Paesti was light, so it was easy to lift himself into the air, flapping his two wings to take him higher. "And would you tell that thing to shut the ******** up? God, it's annoying..."

"Malady doesn't really do what it's told, but it can't hurt you. Unless you're sensitive to words." Was the cheerful response. She peered down, giving a surprised squeak to find they were higher up than she thought they were. "Are you going to bring me to my brother?" she blinked, was that why Demian was lifting her into the air?

The intangible keened as it shot up into the air, curling protectively around Paestri's waist like a make-shift belt. "P-put her d-down, NOW!" it stammered, crimson eyes glowing.

"Considering the fact that I don't take orders from anyone, that'd be a double no," he told her, taking them even higher into the air. "And why the hell would I take you to where you WANT to go?"

The halfling stopped after a moment, narrowing his eyes further at the wispy creature. He'd had just about enough from it, and it was all he could do to keep himself from calling upon the shadows to torture it. After all, one normally couldn't touch the darkness, either.

"Do you have ANY ******** idea what I could potentially DO to you?" he snapped at Malady, his own red eyes widening further to stare the intangible down. "You keep opening your trap and I'll give you a damn good reason to be afraid of the dark!"

"You know, you sound like you have a really big problem." Paestri stated, "I wouldn't know why you would or wouldn't, I can't read minds," she blinked blankly.

If Paestri wasn't aware of the danger she was in, the Intangible was. Malady literally sunk into Paestri's body, shielding itself from Demare's sight. It didn't like the situation, but it had to do something. Anything. A tendril began to reach for the locket from within Paestri. The voice, it might be able to help Malady think of something. But as it touched the piece of jewelry it reacted almost violently to it.

Paestri was about to say something when she visibly cringed, her hand suddenly clutching at her chest. Her locket felt like it was on fire and it was searing her flesh.

Demare quirked a brow, wondering what was going on. They were almost to the top of the tree, so it couldn't have been anything to do with the air; they weren't THAT high off the ground, but still a good 10 - 15 feet.

"Obviously, you're the one with the problem now," he shot back, holding her out away from him. "What's YOUR deal?"

Malady withdrew its tendril from the piece of jewelry, confused. The locket had never reacted that way to the Intangible before. Malady expanded, but stayed within the confines of Paestri's skin and did its best to alleviate the pain. Much to no avail.

Paestri needed to get the locket from under her dress, but she couldn't reach it with Demian holding her by the collar. "My locket's burning, please put me down." she whimpered, body stiffening as the pain spread through her like wildfire.

He didn't like OTHER things torturing his prey. His smirk had faded, his wings keeping him in the air as he moved toward the tree just enough.

"By all means," Demare said bitterly, releasing the girl to allow her to fall into the tree. His calculations were precise; the way that he dropped her allowed her to nest right in a group of thicker branches, giving her only minimal damage with very light scratches.

The fall barely registered with Paestri as she practically yanked the locket free from beneath her dress. Relief washed over her as the burning sensation stopped. She stared quizzically at the locket, then back at Demian.

"Thank you." she mumbled, though there was little reason for her to thank him. Then again, he did let her go, didn't he? Feeling rather exhausted, she clutched at the piece of jewelry, noticing it had grown cool to the touch. "Um, how do I get down?" she asked the halfling.

Malady moaned from within the pink-haired Legend. It seemed the locket didn't approve of its intentions of helping Paestri. Fine, I'm never helping anyone ever again! it screamed to itself.

"You have legs... you have arms..." Demare pointed out with a shrug. "Use them."

The legend had grown bored rather quickly, deciding that it was no fun torturing her if she wasn't going to be afraid. Granted, the annoying thing that came with her was a LITTLE fun, but not worth sticking around for. He lowered himself to the ground, fluttering his wings a little bit as he landed, and shoved his hands into his pockets.

"And for the record, that thing around your neck feels cursed," he called out, beginning to walk away, not even bothering with the book on the ground. "I'd watch it if I were you."

"Um, okay." Paestri blinked, eyeing the tree a little hesitantly. She had never climbed a tree before, let alone one this tall. It was going to take a while for her to get down. Linneas will definately be beside himself with worry.

At the mention of the locket, Paestri wondered if it was indeed cursed. Or if it just wanted to be weird for the time being. "Alright, I will!" she called back, cupping her hand to her cheek just to amplify her voice.

Malady wished it could touch anything, that way it would take on the shape of a parachute or a trampoline or something to cushion Paestri if she fell on her descent.

"This is all his fault." it muttered.

Demare waved his hand a little bit, as if to say he didn't care. After a few more steps, the boy seemed to completely disappear into the night, not a trace of him to be found, save for the book at the bottom of the tree.
