I think honking is wonderful, lol. In fact, last summer I looked forward to the start of band camp because I graduated and didn't have to be there... so I could drive by and honk. Our director always makes some smarty pants comment when some one honks, but its not like people do it everyday. Anyways, you can always tell when I former band geek is driving by because we always honk a rhythm from one of the shows. I honked some thing from my senior year. smile

Once at a football game last year, we were doing one of our movements during halftime and some people in the stands were yelling at us saying, "YOU SUCK! GET OFF THE FIELD!! WE WANT FOOTBALL! YOU SUCK!"

At our losing game just a while ago, some of the fans from the opposing team hazed us so bad a fight broke out. One of the tuba's punched a hazer and then four of the hazer's friends ganged up on the tuba player. Needless to say, next time we play that team it's personal.

The opposing side at the football game tonight was unusually mean. We heard plenty of "you suck," "band sucks," etc, and even more of the general "Kings sucks." My section leader was reportedly kicked in the leg by one of the little kids running around.

Our practice field is on a parking lot with a grid painted on it in the back of the school, away from the highway, etc. I can't recall any obnoxious screams or honks. However, I do remember someone trying to park on our lot DURING our practice. Our director ran up and started screaming his head off at them.
"No, No, NO!!!! YOU CAN'T PARK HERE! THERE'S SIDELINES THeRe, THERE, AND THERE! PICK ONE!"
At football games, we get the occasional little 8th graders who are like, "Geeky Geeky Geeky!" One time when our drumline was marching to our warm up spot, some kid slipped in and was immitating us all stupidly, then ran off. The bass drummers should've sandwiched that kid. Other than that, our high school favors us.

Then our BD will just say "Yes, Drugs are Bad!" For us God People do it 20 Times a Day, I'm just like "Dude it was old my Freshman year, It's old My Senior Year." I think that Honking is just stupid because if they were a decent Band Member then They would know it's Distracting and Stupid.

Neko Kafweenu I've seen parking lots with fields painted on them..... our guard diresctor wouldn't like it, cause our show flags would shred if we spun them on concrete to long, and our school is too cheap to afford enough practice flags and poles for us. Also, the rifles can't drop on concrete, that's suicide.
Plus there are one or two people who'd drop their instruments and get in huge trouble..... gonk My old school did that on concreat. You never drop your instrament. Ever.

BTW, after kneeling for an entire ballad during practice, then attempting to get up in a graceful motion+carrying heavyass tenor drums=Falling, bad, hurt, scratched drums. But not the after effect of the teacher going berserk. Our drumline instructor just laughed and said, "Well that was funny." A lil' off topic there, but meh.

The football team is undefeated this year, so we have a lot of school spirit. Even adults in the the town like to brag about the team. Any group that preforms for sports or helps raise school spirit gets a lot of support. The marching band is wonderful this year, and people at the football games tend to see us being so energetic about playing that they're happy about what's going on, too.
Also, every band member has 115 people backing them up. domokun

Note to self: Use plumes as weapons. Except that we don't have our plumes until right before we perform, and we give 'em back to the band moms as soon as we're done. Oh well.

We use our Show Flags so that we can set all 157(JK) Flags out that we use on field and be used to the weight of them because they are all different. You can have Cheat Dots on a Grass Field (Concrete Fields SUCK) But it's such a Cheat and Crutch and I don't see the point cause when you perform and look for them and they aren't there the person is gonna be lost.

Yeah it probably does suck if it happens "20 times a day" for "10 minutes" at a time. But when it only happens... maybe 3 times durring the season and it disturbs the band for all of 10 seconds, honking really isn't that big of a deal. I happen to think reactions to honking, cheering, unexpected spectators, etc. are all good ways to test a band's level of concentration/intensity. BTW, thanks for calling me indecent. I really appreciate that.

on saturday i had my first idiot.
it really wasnt anything big, but we were on the warmup fields for a competition, and so we were all facing the main street, and then some guy in a white truck drives by and honks his horn real loud.
and then i thought, i was probably the only person who noticed that just now....

Well, the idiots that yell at our band are either A) Mean People in general B)Drunk College Students C) Music Sucks People or D) Mean, Drunk, Music Sucks College Students People. *laughs* Well, really, as band nerds, we don't get much trouble, but it is the other things that we seem to be involved in that get us yelled at. Most of us suck at sports, and in a football town, where our team goes to state every year, you get a lot of crap in PE. And, we have a lot of dysfunctional kids who yell at us for being nerds, and interject themselves into conversations at random intervals.
