We played his funeral dirge for Weber and even THAT had beautiful horn parts. Man, I wish I could play the rest of his stuff. Maybe some other time! I suppose I love Germans, too, then.

John Williams I agree is the best composer, of our time. "The day is coming when I play under his direction..."

For modern times and movies, my favourites would have to be John Williams and Howard Shore. They composed the soundtracks for the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings moviese, Williams being to the former and Shore to the latter, and I absolutely adore those soundtracks. They're so beautiful and full of emotion. Those two are so good at that; they can put any emotion into any music--they can excite you, depress you, or with Williams' The Imperial March for Star Wars, can make you feel cunning. Or, maybe that's just me.
For classical times, it has to be Chopin. I adore Chopin. His talents are subtle yet portray such feeling, difficult yet easy. Of course, one could never live up to Chopin, but I've got a friend who can play his parts near-flawlessly.

Well....I do love the classics. Beethoveen, Bach, Chopin, Wagner, Sousa, Mozart etc., etc. are all great. I haven't actually played any of their pieces, but I have heard the music [who hasn't?!!] and happen to love 'em. There's the modern, and seemingly very popular John Williams. But I have to say that Uncle Robert W. Smith is my favorite. We call him 'Uncle Smith' because our BD's name is Smith; we call him Dad...I'm sure you get the picture. We all love Uncle Smith's work and play his pieces a lot. Just this past year we played 'Into the Storm' which I adored. James Swearingen and Fred J. Allen are a couple other favs of Camden County's band. And then there's Ricky Lombardo. God, there's just so many great composers!
