We have our first football game next Friday xd ...and...well...I dont think we are too ready...we've got pregame ...and the first three songs...our last song was just given back to us from the guy who made up the drill charts..that means we've got a week to learn 10 more sets of our hardest song...and with a band of A LOT of Freshmen..that's quite intimidating! I'm not one of the Freshmen...I'm a Sophmore...last years show was significantly easier than this years...but I have to say we aren't too shabby with what we do have done! It's just still some what intimidating Ya know...we've only got and Tuesday night practice and ...Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday Mornings at school because we dont have school on monday...wish us luck!
Please?

I also wish luck upon Beemer.
On a related note, tonight's my first football game. whee We're not doing the halftime show, though, since:
1) We only have about half the opener put on the field.
2) The band parents and L haven't figured out what uniform we'll use.
3) The school district decided not to provide us with buses to the game. So L made it optional, since he can't make us get ourselves there.

So L made it optional, since he can't make us get ourselves there. We did our show even with half of our opener- we just stood in place the remainder of the show and played. But we did have buses and school uniforms. xp Tonight . . . well we're not allowed to the consessions because of our new uniforms and we can't get them dirty. So well like everyone was really hungry (i mean MOST people ate before but still you are hungry) so after the game was finished I went to the bathroom and my dad was working at the consession stand and gave me free pizza. I inhaled all these pieces of pizza and then left the crusts where I carried them past all three directors and head band parents into the stands and handed them out among my (hungry) band members. And they didn't care if I had biten off of it. And in other news . . . it's trumpet bus tradition to eat a packet of sugar before a game . . . well we didn't have sugar but kool aid. So I thought- kool aid, sure why not? So I open the packet up and pore it down my throat. X___X IT WAS SO NASTY!!!!!! NASTY! I feel sorry for some people put it in their hands and licked it up . . . which resulted in thier hands being stained . . . the fruit punch flavored looked like dried blood . . . sweatdrop eek

I love being a drummer. It gives me an excuse to be a rare oddity without getting too many strange looks. I just wonder about the stereo type of drummers. Why is it that we're portrayed as less intelligent that most people...? (my instructor once told us this "joke": how do you make sure the field is level? make sure the drool on the sides of the drummers' mouths is coming out evenly.) I do understand the stereotype that drummer are cocky little bastards, because I've known quite a few of them that fit that, including myself at times...nevertheless, being a marching drummer involves crab stepping. And that's fun on ALL accounts...

I don't know...I guess it's just that yall don't have to play wind instruments....if that makes any sense...For example...I am our school's sousa player, so naturally I have to blow a LOT of air....and for some reason it just annoys me seeing the drummers having a time of it while my lungs are about to bust lol......Another thing. A lot of the drummers I know/have known tend to goof off a lot in class and not try...That's one thing that people just shouldn't do in my opinion. There is a time for that stuff, but not when we're trying to learn a new piece of music or set drill.
Of course, I do have respect for yall...I do know some pretty good drummers 3nodding
Hehe....back to local news...Our football team won again last night 28 to 0...that puts us at 3-0 for the season...wOOt!!!!...(Oh, and more importantly, our band did outstanding in our halftime show....Best show all season.. whee )

*sigh* Our first game isn't till next Friday, and we're only doing our opener, and maybe...maybe our second song standing still. With our outstanding number of freshman, we only learned one song with the drill during band camp. Seeing as to that only a third of the band came to practice this week, I'd say that our band's officially behind. We didn't even do drill Wednesday. There's a part where me and a guy in my section march around a trombone player, but he wasn't even there. So we would've spun around nothing. xp

OUr band is really large so naturally it takes us time to learn stuff and we're going slow this year. eek sweatdrop I have all the respect for drummers and tuba players- I mean I sure as hell couldn't march around a field in those instruments. Our band respects them and always them go into the stands first and get water first. (I think because one year every time someone made fun of either the tubas or percussoin- they made them march around carrying those instruments (and playing theres if they could))
Personally our drummers just get a lot of slack because of the percussion director . . . he's really nice . . . and unstrict and cool. Actually the brass has a worst reputation then the drummers . . . and the tubas . . . we just don't have the brightest tubas in the bunch (as in them personally- outside of band). sweatdrop
Our football team won 39-6 3nodding And the game before 36-0 whee Last year we made it to states- which was a big deal because my freshman and sohpmore year- we won two games TOTAL. So we were like 2 wins out of 24 games sweatdrop sweatdrop OUr football team used to SUCK!!! in fact my freshman year we against a team that had never scored a touchdown that season . . . and we lost . . . and amazingly last year we only lost like two or three games AND made it to states which was awesome because we've been sucking for like that past SEVERAL years. And now like we LOTS of people come to our games. whee heart heart
Ha ha ha and they like to cheer us because last night the other team was from very far away (you always have that one odd team that's from a place really far away and you never play them again . . .) and so their band played to thier side and the anouncer was saying we could do better than them. xp

Argh, my percussion in high school was a Nazi...off sticking? Oh good then you get a nice hard rap across the knuckles with a drumstick. Get back on sticking or die! Talking at attention? Fabulous! Drop and do thirty pushups with the drum on your back. Don't know the cadence? Guess what? It's deadline time and so you're off my line! Goodbye! Need water! No goddammit because I said so! Stand there and die! ed Ahem
Yeah our band was really big too, and my new band is just a little bit bigger. We marched in 5A in highschool...that was odd and scary, but at the same time cool because the drills you can do one the field are widened in possibility because there are more people involved. I loved being in a huge band. It was funny to get there early when all the 1A and 2A bands were just packing up, and we'd drive in with out semi truck and 10 school buses. Niceness.

lol....That's just funny HS...our band is a really small one....1A....so, we only have two busses (actually we could stuff everyone on one, but hey...why not?) and we cram all of our equipment onto them....It's actually, quite fun...I don't know though. An advantage of a smaller school is that you know everyone in your band....and, of course, your director...I just think that's important to the unity of your group...It's true, we don't get to do as much of a variety of drill as bigger groups...yet I assure you, I move enough in a show to make up for it..hehe....(Yet, our band used to be a whole lot bigger..actually double our current size (32) so I know what you mean...)

We're what's called an "Open" class band locally, and I think AAA at BOA. We compete with bands much bigger than us though. We have 102 members, but we regularly beat bands of 150+.

o.o sounds like my whole brass line... but we just have stupid people... really... i think they are a little slow... ok maybe a few...some just thing that marching band is game and play and dance and do whatever they wish... gir... and our low brass section leader thinks she is the almighty queen so if she is late she doesn't have to run poles or anything... she thinks she can get away with whatever she wants... i hate her... ...our theme this year happens to be Grease... it is intresting... we are playing the Grease opener, Grease Lighting and Hand Jive, Summer Love, and We go together(or so we call it, it the last song in the movie...our band director didn't remember the name so he made up one) our band director writes our music...it is intresting...o.o and we have a small band too... only 30 i think... maybe less...but a large trumpet line...they are at least half the band themselves...but alot of trumpet rookies...who to my surprise are the best...ok this is getting long so i am going to shut up now...
