Celestra finished combing her hair till it shined softly. Tieing off with the treasured ribbon the girl seemed adamant to keep.
She looked at the contraption she's never seen in her life before.
Tilting her head slightly.
"What is that? I've never seen such a thing before."
Sitting the child on the comforts of the soft bed. She called the innkeep for some food for the child and to bring it up to her room. Seeing as the girl might be uncomfortable if there were in a crowded room. Not that she was complaining. She didn't liked crowded rooms full of strangers she's never met before.
Taking her seat besides her. Thinking.
"Now. What shall I do with you? You might be safer at the temples. For I have to go to some Lycan village to look for a healer. It might be a dangerous travel for one so young?"
Ruffling the girls head lightly.
"I'd like to take you with me, but I would feel so hurt if harm came your way during the travels."
She sighed. Wishing the child could give her a clue at least.
"Have you no other living relatives you know of child?"

The girl stopped fiddling with the contraption after Celestra began talking again, watching as the food was brought in and set on the small table next to the bed. She continued to run her fingers along the grooves though, the empty mana viens, looking somewhat saddened as the woman mentioned family.

There were five holes in the item which would allow for mana to be physically poured in, each hole causing a different effect. Her lips parted as she made to ask for some, but when no sound came out she merely paused. Shaking her head as the woman mentioned going to the temple, she did so with a good deal of energy. She hadn't liked the village she'd been in, she didn't want to go whereever they had been trying to send her.

Holding the box up towards the woman, she hoped that Celestra would recognize the vien-like markings which were trademark of Lyran items. The design had come from before the war, and although it was unrefined now, it was still the same idea.

"Oh what's this? Such a strange contraption. Hmm, isn't this one of those runic devices of the old times? I think. . . I"m to put some mana here?"
Looks to the child.
"Shall we give it a try little one? I have no clue about such things, but I can control mana easily."
Touching one side with her fingers, she called forth the mana of water that was in the air to come swirling down into the indentures.
Then touching another one, she called forth the mana of air.
Blue mana swirled into the groove, as a soft greenish mana swirled into the other one.
"Well, that's it? I guess we'll figure this out together? Eh little one?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:57 pm

Her face lit up almost instantly as the mana began to curl out of the air and fill the first and second holes. There was a pause before a slight grinding noise as the gears inside began to click, and the box felt to vibrate slightly. The girl took the box from Celestra and set it down hurriedly on the floor, smiling widly as the mana flowed across the grooves and the different parts began to pull apart and slide along one another.

When the machine paused, an odd static sound would begin to fill the air, and then...

'Papa! Papa! Is it working now?' A small voice called out, seemingly from within the box itself,

'I think it is!' A man's voice now, and the girl's smile quickly dropped. 'See, Jamie? Your mama said it would work if you kept at it, do you know what it's doing though?'

'No... But the pieces all moved when I put the mana in, can I take it on the shi--'

The voices cut out quite abruptly, and the mana viens dried momentarily before beginning to light up again with the second burst of mana which had been poured in. This time, the pieces moved to reveal a small compartment, scooting up to it, the girl fingered the opening and grimaced. Pulling out a sodden piece of canvas, her fingers started to go red and blue from the paints which had run askew. There was water in the compartment as well as a few pieces of silt and water weed. The faded outlines of at least three people could be seen on the small square, shaped like a miniature family portrait. She looked heartbroken.

Celestra titled her head.
"Your family little one?"
She looked at the picture.
"A protrait?"
She looked at the forelone look on the childs face. And it almost broke her heart.
She sighed out a bit.
"Here. Let me see. If you promise not to tell anyone. Not a living soul at what I'm about to do. I can restore it."
She shooked her head. The child seem to have lost her voice.
"I doubt you would, would you little one."
Taking the paper from the child and settling it on her lap.
"I'll only need a little bit of mana. I doubt anyone would notice much missing, eh little one?"
Her eyes seems to become unfocused as her iris expand filling her eyes a complete glowing blue.
Her hand opened, palm faceing up as is starts to glow. Collecting the mana though her fingertips and balling up into a swirling orb at the center of her hands. Her runes at her wrists lights up and glows erriely as well. Seeming to dance about and swirl in and out of it's orginal place.
All about her, the mana that was flowing was dancing like a veil in the wind. Like ribbons floating in the wind.
As the mana collected. The air seemed to get heavy as the two orbs wraps around each other and melted into one larger piece. Floating over the paper.
"In the goddess name, I pray that you restore what was destroyed by times natural enemy. Ebb the flow of time for thine avatar. Grant me my lowly wish for others. Time distortion."
The orb darkned taking in the paper. Crackling noises emits from it. A feeling of the air moving and rushing about that makes even the strongest stomach want to queeze uneasily. A snapping sound like many lightnings forming into one did the orb crack and shatter. The paper falling gently to the ground. The picture reforming slowly before the girl's eyes. Using the remains of the colored dye that had spilt and that remained in the container.
"I can only restore as much as there is still a remainder of the orginal to be used. It may be a little faded. But that's all I can do."
Smiling softly she put the paper back into the girls hands.
"There you go. Keep it safe now."

Her eyes widened until they could grow no larger, picking up the small canvas piece slowly as if afraid it would fade again if she wasn't careful. In the portrait were four people, Jamie was seated with a small infant in her lap, and a woman with long golden hair in a bright green dress with a racy cut draping one arm behind them both. A tall man with short blonde hair and a beard like a ship's captain stood behind the seat, arms behind his back with a long bright green coat reaching down nearly to his ankles, lined with what looked like gold. His shirt was a pale blue and what could be seen of his breeches made them look brown. In all, the family's clothing was rather bright and very attention grabbing, but, that was the style for those in Lyr who were making their mark on the 'Upper' class.

She looked between the woman and the picture once or twice, as if still unsure that it was real, she hadn't seen her mother or brother in months, not since leaving with her father on his ship. When it had sunk off the coast of the islands, the sailors had left her in the village. She wanted to explain it, but couldn't. The words just wouldn't come.

((Okay Sunny!))

Celestra chuckled and ruffled the girls hair.
"It's alright. It won't fade again. It's more permanent now. Well, fire won't count though. But I'm sure you wouldn't do that on purpose anyways. Now little one. Eat for me. You look half starved."
Pulling her hair back a little.
"Mmm, guess I used a bit to much mana on that little spell. Go on and eat. I'll just rest a bit. And if you want. You can stay with me until you know what you want to do. I'll help you as best as I can. And if you want. I guess you can come with me? I must go to a group of people that deals with machines. Since they cannot use mana, they should have real doctors. Doctors I need to save my people from dying. I won't leave till tomorrow. So you can decide on what you want to do. Okay?"
Pulling the tray of food to the child. She ushers her to eat as much as she her little tummy could hold.
Then she laide back on the bed. Closing her eyes for a bit. To rest her body. Using spells like that does take a toll on ones body. Especially those deemed by the goddess to be only used with her permissions only.

And eat she did, slowly at first though, but then with more appitite. Machines had been what had destroyed her father's ship, thrown her into the sea with all of the men. But the machine in front of her allowed her to save her father's voice...

Celestia had said she was going to where people used machines, Jamie only knew of the old broken cities she had grown up under the shadows of. Her mother had always spoken about how great they would be when rebuilt, despite their family having lived in a 'New' Port, a city freshly constructed after the war and using materials salvaged from the 'Old' Port just West of it...

Did her mother know what had happened to the ship? Jamie wasn't sure, her mother had always spoken of great ropes passed along the old Nation which had let people at one part of the Nation talk normally and be heard by someone else standing on the other side. But her mother said that it didn't work anymore. Where had the sailors her father had been friend's with gone to? She wanted to know, she wanted to go home...

Purring softly as she laid, as if remembering something.
"Lyr. I am going to Lyr. The people have lighter complexions and hair there I think. Are you a child of Lyr? Maybe we might find some of your family if you came with me little one? If you don't mind my company? I have never stepped out of my frozzen home. So I do not know much about the world as I should. But you are more the welcome to join me. I shall keep you safe. Till you are reunited with your family. I wont guarantee we'll find them. It's...a very big world out there..as I've just found out. But we can try together."
Celestra opened up her eyes again. Her eyes normal now, a soft glowing blue. Like the blue stars at nights. Smiling softly.
"For now, I"ll call you my little one till I learn your name."

"Oh. . . I believe that device was called a communicator of sorts. You can talk to another at long distances so long as you have mana flowing into it constantly. The wind mana especially works bests for it. The ancient manatechnology."

She blinked slightly as Celestra almost seemed to have heard her ponders on what her mother had once told her. But, despite how strange this woman was that couldn't be the case. She nodded though as Celestra mentioned her being a child of Lyr, her mother had always said that they were of the United Republic, but her father had called them the Artificers of Lyr. Jamie didn't really know, but tilted her head to the side slightly as the woman gifted her with the nickname. It wasn't her name, but it was still nice.

Smiling before closing her eyes again.
"I'll have to find a boat that is going to Lyr. . . Never been one one. Wonder if it is safe to ride? Still. I've never seen the sea yet. I more or less teleported here. Jumps are easier if you know where you are going. I had to use an old map to get here."
Chuckling.
"Almost caused myself to be morphed into a tree. That would be..quite aweful. A tree with flesh."
Sighs out.
"If only someone could be my eyes. I can probrably get there more easily. But no one in this new world knows about the Jump. They will fear it. And if there is fear, the Jump won't be successful."

((^^U I had to watch something with my parents, we all watch this one show as a family.))

She blinked at Celestia as she continued talking. The woman's words were now over the eight-year-old's head, she'd jumped across the sea? That clearly wasn't possible, her father had used a great big ship powered by mana engines to get them from Port to the Islands numerous times, the only jumping involved was up the stairs or across the gang planks.

She finished eating soon enough, and Jamie found herself growing tired. It had been a hard ride from the village, having been told curtly not to lean on any of the bags lest she bruise the produce more than once. The people in the village had never hit her though, but she wasn't yet old enough to really think on that.

Celestra yawned a bit. Pulling the child to her.
"Mm, sleepy. You seem it to. Let's rest for now."
Her lids were heavy. An effect of using a higher level magic spells. Usually it wouldn't bother her. But time distortion is a different class of its own, now matter how little one used. It is taxing, and it will hurt the body. That is why it's a forbidden spell to most. Only the goddesses few select chosen could use it without being drained out completely. But, they still had to have her permission to use it. It was to keep the balance at bay. So the powers didn't tilt more to one side she had said.
