Salem didn't feel Rex kick out, but as Foley hesitated at the three count, he understood why - Kobra got the heel of his foot on the nearby bottom rope, and dirty as Rex had been, Foley was calling this fairly!
Sighing and sitting up, Salem ran a hand through his hair and caught his breath, struggling to put his opponent away after such overwhelming opposition! His body ached, his lungs burned, but despite that, Salem would try to pull Rex up to his feet, and deliver a Tomahawk Chop to the fellow snake's chest! "And Rex keeps himself in this with a foot on the rope! If he was further from the corner, I think this would've been over, King!"
"I dunno, J.R.! I don't think Salem could pull him out of the corner!"

Rex was stood and coiled in from the pain from the chop but straight up after a moment and attempted to deliver a knife edge chop to Salem's chest.

Salem was trying to catch his breath when Rex returned the chop, carving into his ribs and belaboring his lungs with the impact! Stumbling back a half-step, Croft collected himself and swung his arm back at Rex for another Tomahawk Chop!

Rex winced and coiled inward from the strike.
JR: How the hell is Rex still standing? Two signature maneuvers and those chops...
King: Maybe there is something to this Serpent nonsense.
But the rage in him caused him to quickly stand and went for another knife edge chop of his own.

Once more, Rex attacked with a retaliatory chop, making Salem wheeze and wince from the impact! Mustering his nerve, though, the Gypsy Savage would straighten back up and chop "The Defiler" back, leaning into the blow to add emphasis! "These two snakes are tougher than two dollar steaks, King!"
"Something's gotta give, J.R.! How long can they keep this up?!"

Rex doubled over this time, unable to make a timely recovering. His chest hurt and his lungs stung as he tried to breathe.

Salem took notice of Rex's struggle to stand straight following the Tomahawk, and pounced! Trying to clench him up, "Showtime" would seek to apply his signature Guillotine Choke once again, leveraging his weight down on the back of Rex's shoulders to both wear him down and let Salem rest a bit as he tried to submit the snake!

The hold was applied. Rex swung wildly trying to get out of it. His cult was not there to chant for him having been driven away by Foley. His way of getting strength was gone.
JR: The Guillotine is locked in. Showtime has the choke.
King: This is it. Kobra's gonna tap. He has to.
He moved and thrashed. He tried to move Salem to a point where Foley couldn't see. If he was able to do it, he would attempt to simply shoot a hand up and hit Salem in the throat.

Though he had the submission locked in, Rex still had enough fight to force Croft to move and adjust to keep his grip! Using that to his advantage, Kobra struck Salem in the windpipe and forced him to reflexively relinquish the hold, clutching his neck in pain!

With the choke released, Rex had to act quick. He knew he had an opening now and he had to take it. He would attempt to quickly attempt to lock on a Mandible Claw onto the choking Salem.

Salem was blindsided as Rex countered with an unorthodox attack, striking the nerve inside Croft's mouth with a mandible claw! Pain shot like lightning through his spine, his nerve endings lighting up like a Christmas tree! Wincing, Salem felt his knees buckle as he struggled to reach for the ropes! "It's the Mandible Claw, King! Rex is trying to beat Salem with Foley's own move!"
"That's what he gets, interfering like he did! Stay away from crazy, J.R.!"

Rex would seek to keep the hold employed while moving around behind Salem and dragging him to a position so that Rex could stare at Foley, another man who had perfected the Mandible Claw.
If Rex managed it, he would just keep the hold locked on and glaring at Foley. "This is your showtime? Your championship material. He's nothing but a pretender. No more a copperhead than you are."

The pain drowned out Rex's taunts and the fans' jeers, Salem unable to focus on anything but the ropes in front of him! Feeling his vision blurring up a bit, Croft struggled to get a couple steps closer, desperate to get near enough to the cables to affect a change!

"You want Foley to witness your failure? I will oblige you," Rex said. He took a step forward allowing Salem to get a bit closer to the ropes, wanting Foley to watch as Salem was beaten by move that he had made famous.
JR: What a monster! He's mocking a legend, King.
King: I hope he gets what's coming to him, JR.
He wanted Salem to be embarrassed in front of management the way he was embarrassed in front of his cult when Salem denied him. He wanted the audience who booed him freely to see what a fraud "Showtime" was.

Salem tried to reach the ropes to force a break, but Rex was deliberately keeping him out of arm's reach, taunting Foley with the hardcore legend's own move! "Showtime" could feel himself starting to fade, knowing he didn't have long left!
With a flash of inspiration, Salem would hop his legs forward, using their longer length to spring himself off the bottom rope and back into Rex as he tried hooking Kobra's head, attempting his finishing Cutter, the "C.O.D."! "C.O.D.! C.O.D. from outta nowhere! The Copperhead ain't dead yet, King!"
"I can't believe it. J.R.! How did he do that?!"
