Mercy could understand that. While she'd grown up relatively well off by nominal standards, it wasn't the same level as the Whites - and the fact that they were a client of her father's made it all the more a sticking point. Normal people wouldn't understand the difference necessarily between family members - especially with a family as big as the Whites.

But...

"He seems to me," Mercy offered, turning a bit on the couch to give Delilah her full attention. "That he's the type that probably commits 200% to whatever he puts his mind to, for better or worse."

"If that's the case, then I wish him the best of luck," She said with a chuckle. "But she sounds like the type that he should probably let go rather than give chase. I doubt it'll end well if she hates the name that much."

So Mercy has never met you and already has you pegged for being obsessed about some things including the color teal.

Flashing Mercy her phone to show her the text, Delilah innocently shrugged. Not her fault that someone could peg her cousin without meeting him.

"He'd say she hasn't said no nor get lost yet. Just walked away. If she did, he would let it go. That part I will give to him that he won't go after someone who makes it very clear they aren't interested. Well, minus men." She added the last part thinking about that one time he got hit on by that odd man.

"But that's not important. Oddly, it sounds like your uncle has the same issue though a but differently. Limited dating pool due to...some choices in life."

Astute young woman, sure you don't want a secretary?

"You could say that again," Mercy offered with a shake of her head. "He doesn't even like half of them really, most of it's set up to look good, and the breakups are planned in advance just in case things go south really quick."

She snorted. "It's hardest for him in June when they try to pair him with other guys... Because he honestly doesn't care but they say it's 'good for his optics,' but all of the other male models of that persuasion think he's too beefy."

"But, they're also all like super twiggy - it's really weird," She shook her head. "I've seen the diets they try to put him on - it's NUTS."

"Before I respond to him..." Delilah smirked, passing her the phone to see the response from Mathias. Based on her reaction, she would respond.

"But you do bring up a very good point." Leaning back, she thought about all the male models she'd ever seen. "It depends on the brand but it seems like male models want to be the most attractive in the room. Dating someone more attractive than they are doesn't seem to sit well. Whereas women want either someone as equal as they are or to compliment them."

"It's an industry that I never want to deal with. While I was younger I considered going into fashion design though so would have worked closely with many models had I followed that path. But now, rather glad I ran the opposite direction."

Mercy snorted at the message, giving her head a small shake. It looked like playful sibling banter was in fact the flavor of the day between the two and she could tell they were close even by the way the man texted Delilah. But it also clued her in that Deliilah probably had more on her plate than she was willing to admit.

Potentially enough that her "brother figure" might think it was more than she could chew through.

Not that he'd say it outloud.

But that was pure speculation on her part nor was she going to voice it, but instead turned her full attention to Delilah.

"It's... definitely not for everyone," She agreed. "I think if it weren't for the fact that he and his boss get along so well I don't think he'd keep doing it as long as he has. But, he rarely ever talks about the agency's owner so that's just me guessing as well."

She shrugged. "I equally debated not going into law and focusing on like an theater or acting degree if I was going to go full time on my Vtubing... but I'm not sure that's a road I really want to go down yet. It's a good side gig don't get me wrong - but I'd rather it not be my only income stream you know? Law is... well... pretty stable."

Plus she could always start a law side channel - Lord knew there were like a billion of those.

"Which agency does he work for?" More out of her own curiosty than anyreal reason to ask. There were countless ones out there an that was in this city alone. Add in the worldwide ones and she doubted that she'd know the name.

Pulling her phone back, she thought for a moment and decide to send back:

Not enough experence. Besides, I'd need someone with less life than I already have. :p

That was only a half joke sadly.

"There will always be people who want to sue for...something. May not be what you want to do but it is a paycheck in the hardtimes. Acting though? Talk about a carreer of luck and knowing the right people. Admiral."

"Uhmm...." Mercy had to think for a moment, she'd remembered seeing some of the letter head from some of his invitations, the name was escaping her at the moment, before she recalled the animal had, had a very familiar looking shape. "Fox Agency, I think? I never really asked, I just know the letterhead they use has a fox in."

She shrugged a bit. "I mean, he does well for himself, his apartment's only a block over from yours I think, nice but you know - not has it's own guard in the lobby nice."

She was sorely debating asking what rent rant at this place and what the waiting list was... She could figure out income if it came to that this place was KILLING IT.

"And yeah, you're not wrong," She said with a huff. "But that's Mr. Hallifax's realm mostly. That and copyright."

Okay, you got me there... Maybe she can help you get a life XP

"Fox?" Delilah considered, tapping her finger against the couch for a moment as she mentality ran down the list of agencies she had looked into before throwing that pipe dream into the back of her closest. "Must be a newer one. O don't recognize the name. Yet if they are planning your Uncle's image as well as jobs, must have a strong marketing team as well as connections. Tell him hang in there and milk it while he can."

Because in fashion, one day you are in and the next, out.

To the comments about her apartment, Delilah just shrugged. It was a place to live. Was it nice? Oh yes it was, no doubt. Was it her first choice? Not at all.

"Would you like a quick tour? I mean besides this room, next largest is the Master but at least my uncle can't side eye me later if I show you around. Though have to forgive me that one of the bedrooms is a bit of a mess."

Grabbing her phone, she stood up, shot back a quick curse that sounded like 'buck few', and went to turn on the balcony lights.

The patio, for that was what appeared, was a lovely couch and two chairs sitting on an outdoor rug. Plants masked the walls, softening the place. On one side was clearly the favorite spot: a hammock swing with a small table and blanket.

"Oh he plans to," Mercy said, nodding her head as the other woman stood and offered her a tour. "I would love to - if it's not an imposition..."

And if it made it so that her Uncle wouldn't give her a side-eye then all the more better no?

She followed taking in the layout and nodding approvingly. When she saw the hammock swing however she grinned and let out a soft approving sound.

"Oh, you have to tell me where you got that," She said, pointing at the swing. "I totally need one of those!"

Love you too kiddo XP

Somedays, I don't believe you

"No secret." She smirked, eyeing the hammock. "Got it from Overstock. Did some digging for most comfortable and thankfully they had it at not too bad a price. Amazon sadly had it on sale two days after I got it but isn't that what always happens?"

Chuckling with a sigh, she waved a hand for Mercy to follow her to the left side of the room. One door was raised two steps above the living room level. Pushing it open revealed a bedroom about half the size of the living room with the same views. "Here is your room for the night." She smiled, flipping a switch and showing off the queen size bed on the middle of the room. Done up in creams, whites and blues, it was a comfortable look. Clearly a guest room but one that had thought put into it.

"It's the largest of the two smaller bedrooms and has its own bath. Not to mention, it is separated from the Master side so privacy for both parties." She nodded towards the other side of the apartment where a hallway was. "More like family or side and inlaw side almost."

"Be careful though. I've had people forget the two steps in the morning. Mind you they normally had a hangover..."

The tour was doing wonders for her Uncle's potential future business. "Isn't that always the way?" She nodded. "Same thing happened to me with my mic setup - stupid thing went on sale legit the next day, I almost returned it and rebought it but I didn't want to deal with the delay."

Not to mention she didn't want to fight the potential limited stock some of her more fun equipment - like her voice changer - cost. Why yes, she did pitch shift her voice slightly, why do you ask?

"I'll keep that in mind," She commented about the two steps, looking around the room with a smile. "Not that I'm planning to be hung over - though really a few sips of that punch at the party and I'd be well on my way, whoever was mixing the drinks there needs to learn to be a bit lighter on their pours."

"Oh, and not buy bottom shelf vodka," She commented pulling a face. "If they even bought the stuff and didn't try to distill it themselves and call it chemistry."

Shaking her head she shot Delilah a small smile, a bit on the sheepish side.

Do I even want to know what rent is here? It's almost like a small house at this rate - or a really nice condo."

Oh please, like there was ever any doubt

"You know," Delilah found herself contemplating the idea of the punch in more ways than she ever. "You may be onto something. I knew it tasted off but I always figured old or out dated mixer. Maybe they are trying something in the basement."

The look she gave Mercy was very much a it's possible shrug. At least it was believable. Stuff was nasty!

Leading her guest back across the living room and into the hallway, she flipped on the lights. Several doors were closed with the one at the very end cracked opened. "So let's see. Closest here." She waved at the door deciding not to open that one. "And on this side is the smaller of the guest rooms. Normally wouldn't open it but to give you an idea of size..."

Well she did. Mess? Nah but clearly wasn't as neat as the other parts of the house. A home office was set up inside and it looked like she had left mid project.

"You aren't off on condo." Closing the door, she motioned to the second bathroom that served guests and this bedroom. "High end living is one of my Uncle's things. He claimed this place would bring families closer to work." But the look she gave Mercy showed how true that was.

"I'd tell you the average rent but that will change I'm sure with the renovation to the common areas in the next few months..."

There always is. You may love me but like me? Eh...

Mercy really hoped they weren't doing a bathtub still in the basement - but she wasn't even going to pry and find out. Might give Mary the tip, she could nose around and she'd be more keen on a scoop for the school paper. After all Fraternity Drama would probably actually increase readership.

But neither here nor there as they made their way out into the living room then down the hall. At the comment Mercy snorted.

"I can already tell it's probably priced out of your average family's budget - at least ones that aren't lower upper or upper middle," She motioned with a hand. "And if he's raising prices that's not going to help. But please, tell me, I'm curious."

And not just because she might try for one of the vacancies that was doubtless available.

Oh there are days where we both want to kick each other in the butt but that's normal, kiddo.

Attached to the text came the image of large landscape portrait of two figures playing chess - one older and one younger - only the pieces were tiny people not actual pieces.

Thoughts? Trying to keep to the colors I remember.

Delilah had hoped she wouldn't ask about the rent again because, well, she hated discussing money. Given her family and the wealth she had been born into, Delilah was well aware of the stigma that came with her life. The term 'socialite' always brought up images of Paris Hilton or the Kardashians to people and that....

Well it just wasn't her!

But people who knew who she was just saw dollar signs when she walked in, not a person.

So with a sigh, she looked up at the ceiling and muttered "Between 4k and 8k a month."

Never knew you did fantasy. I like it. Meet someone new?

"Ah," Mercy said, placing her hands behind her back and watching the other woman. She could sense that she'd ventured into territory that was... not to her hosts interests. The sigh alone told a story in its own right. She actually regretted asking now, seeing the way her host acted.

But, she didn't dollar signs when it came to Delilah - at least - not right then. What she saw was a woman who had worked hard to get where she was - leg up due to her breeding or no. Oh sure - sure came from money - there were expectations that came along with that...

And she was sure that Delilah would have given all her eye-teeth to be rid of them. But, like a good daughter, she was toughing it out because that's what you did.

"So totally not changing the subject," She said - changing the subject. "That was some really good tea earlier, what blend was it?"

Oh hey a subject that wasn't money - that she actually kind of knew something about.

Yeah, pretty chill dude all things considered, he makes a good foil for the Baron... And I do fantasy sometimes, not my fault that sci-fi tends to be my go-to when I don't do contemporary.
