Popo did a quick look over just to make sure the buck truly wasn’t injured and nodded. “Yes, definitely getting out of the rain is the way to go.” She was about to gesture toward the large tree shielding some of the Dales from the storm when that same tree suddenly burst into flames with a loud crack and went down, hitting the earth with a shaking thump. Popo’s keen ears picked up the sound of some sort of scream and she was immediately on alert. The brown buck was already off looking at the tree, and she could see other rabbits in the area making their way over to the still smoldering limbs. This was a recipe for disaster, and someone was already injured or trapped or something. She moved around the perimeter of the tree, keeping back from any smoking areas, and searched for anyone in distress.

Something stirred near the tree, hearing the calls. A frantic voice called from near the roots of the tree. "I'm here! Help!" A rabbit hopped out from near the roots.

She looked around frantically. "Can you help me? Please?" Her eyes were hugely wide, showing the whites. "Everything was fine until the storm!" She let out another rabbit shriek. "M-my kits were here ... and now they're gone!" She sucked in a huge breath. "Can you help me find them?" Her head whipped around, searching, apparently oblivious to the smoldering tree and the continuing storm. Another thunderclap echoes across the Dales, but she didn't seem to register that either.

Rabbits are still welcome to join at this stage! This thunderstorm is currently right over head, and your posts should reflect this! Your rabbit may or may not be able to see the fallen tree, but if they are looking they can likely make out the smoldering branches.

If your rabbit has approached the tree they may be able to see this new rabbit. If you would like to interact with this rabbit please ensure that your rabbit is currently in a position they can actually see and interact with her.

The thunderstorm is still quite close, and your posts should reflect this.

Please add this footer to your post to indicate if your rabbit is going to explore the fallen tree.

If you're trying to talk to this new rabbit please add the additional footer to your post.

Mud heard a noise coming from the tree and his ears perked up in that direction. At first, he could make out only a rough shape. As his eyes adjusted to the smoke he realised that it was a bunny standing before him. "Oh hello! Are you alright?" He worriedly checked out the bunny for any injuries. "your kits?" He looked around him in a circle and thought back trying his best to remember whether or not he had seen any Kits on his way here.

"Where did you see them last?" He asked wondering if the noises he had heard coming from the tree was just this bunny, or if it was the cries of kits he had heard instead. "Were they by the tree here?" He motioned to the smouldering area around them. "If so we probably should be quick, I'll help you look, and I bet you we will find them in no time okay?" Mud tried his best to reassure her. He had never had kits of his own so he really didn't know what she was going through but he could tell that she was pretty distressed.

Justice's piercing, albeit a bit haggard, gaze was focused on Hoar. However; at the sound of a familiar voice, her ears immediately swiveled towards the direction of where that shriller voice was coming from. Was that the one who screamed? The brown doe turned towards the sound, one of her forepaws up in the air. Yeah, had to be! "One moment." She glanced over towards the white buck that she had been talking to before meandering her way towards the other doe, curiosity eating eat her brain. It wasn't like she wanted to leave the other bun. She did care about where the other grey bun had went to. But right now, there was something about that bun. That doe was reason why she was around the tree in the first place. "Are you hurt in any way?" She hobbled forward to the doe, looking her over. She might be fine. Then again, looks could be deceiving.

Koi's gaze looked up to a familiar voice, his nose twitching. Who was that? They tilted their head to the side as they watched another bun approach. They seemed pretty frantic...but they seemed to be getting help. They should be fine. He scrambled over towards another part of the tree. As much as he would like to see what the fuss was about, maybe it would be best if he explored around the area, see if there were any other buns that he could help.

"O-of course!" Floodwater yelled to the lone doe as she approached, though her attention was quickly taken by the flames and smoldering branches that roared around them as other rabbits rushed to her side. The tree was - or, rather, had been - huge. Nothing about this was safe. The brown doe to her right had certainly had a close call just now; she made a mental note to keep an eye on the doe in case she was more hurt than she had looked.

Floodwater flicked an ear as she listened to the questions others raised. All important, all necessary, but maybe just... Not here?

"But we need to get you out of here," She barked, shouldering her way forward. "When you're ready, let's move away from the tree! I know your kits are around here and the storm is still going, but the fire could spread!"

She nodded at the rabbits around her firmly before turning back to the doe, "We've got this. I promise. One of us will find somewhere safe for you...?"

Floodwater looked at the other rabbits hopefully. She definitely didn't know anywhere safe herself - she was here, after all.

Buzz took stock of his surroundings, there were actually quite a few rabbits around. Apparently everyone was feeling heroic today. That was good. He decided he would complete one lap around the tree, taking care to try to spot anyone who may be stuck under any branches. After that his moral obligation would be fulfilled and he could go back to his burrow and wait out this storm. He went in the direction opposite of the cluster of rabbits off to his right so that his circuit would end with them. Then he would invite anyone in earshot to join him if they wished and be on his way. "Let's go this way." He motioned to Dusty and led the way. "Help me eye the branches for anyone who may be trapped."

Dusty was surprised to see a number of rabbits here. Had they all come to help, or had they heard the saying that lightning never struck the same place twice? Even if it was true, he wouldn't want to stay out in the open like this. Not while the sky was still throwing down lightning and thunder. The tension in the air was so thick he could feel it and darkness had come swiftly. It was now a lot harder to see except around the sections of tree that were still in flames despite the rain. Buzz asked for his help searching the tree so he followed and kept his eyes and ears open for anything amiss.

After hearing Floodwater she seemed to register the danger, her eyes huge, darting back and forth to the flaming branches. "What if my kits are under there!" She let out another wail, completely distressed.

Her eyes passed over Justice and then to Mud, and she shook her head. "Don't worry about me, my kits! We have to find them!" She took a tentative hop away from the tree. "I- ... I think they fled? When the tree was hit? But what if they didn't?!?" Her breath was coming fast, and she looked a little unsteady.

Another bolt of lightning lit the night brightly, but the boom didn't follow as closely. It seemed that the storm was not quite so directly over head anymore. The rain poured down all the harder, as if to make up for the storm moving away.

Justice's ears drooped back. So the doe was missing her kits...the poor mother. She had no experience as a mother herself, but she could only imagine that it was devastating to have them gone missing. More devastating than losing a mate. "It's okay, your a smart doe. I'm sure that they learned well from you to stay away from danger." Justice tried to placate, putting a paw gently on the mother's own before her keen eye looked around. She couldn't see any little figures in the area... "It's okay, we'll find them." Even if she had to risk her life. As long as she could save others...everything will be okay.

"Your life is important too." Her piercing gaze immediately went to the doe at hand and watched her move. She seemed to hop fine. Hopefully she was just frayed. "I'll help look. Try to stay safe. The tree might fall on you if you aren't." She winced as memory flooded back to her of her escape from peril. She hoped no other buns experienced what she did.

The sky lit up again, illuminating their area. Justice went to search for the kits, only jumping a bit at the boom that sounded off. Huh, that was weird. Did the sound come after a few seconds from the light? What did that mean?

Meanwhile Koi continued to explore the tree remnants, searching for some sign of life. The sight of his new friend soon disappeared. Weird. Did they get lost? He hopped quicker, hoping to find his new pals once again. What if they got trapped? Oh no...he really should have been keeping track of where they were at!

A flash of light sounded again and the rabbit jumped nearly out of his skin, shooting high up in the air. Could the sky not do that? That would have been great. The boom that resounded afterwards made him jump too, and he looked up to the sky. Usually he wasn't the type to get frustrated but there was something about the sky today that made him want to bite it. If only...

Buzz began his search, forging a path as close to the tree as possible. He kicked aside burning sticks in the way as he went so that Dusty wouldn't step on them. Youch, this was no joke. He never imagined doing something this reckless and yet here he was. He just hoped that it wouldn't be a futile search or too late to help whoever he'd heard. This tree was huge. Going fully around it was the most thorough way to do it, but he still worried about the time it would take.

Dusty followed a bit behind, trying to methodically search as best as he could. In the places where it looked like there was an opening underneath he'd poke his head in and call out "Hello? Anyone in there?" and listen for a few moments before continuing on. This was taking him longer and causing him to fall farther behind but he wanted to be absolutely sure he wasn't missing anything. If he was doing this, he might as well give it his all. The path he was following was mostly cleared but even still he found himself stepping on bits of hot bark since he had his eyes peeled on the tree more so than the ground in front of him.

Floodwater grimaced at the fallen tree as the doe began to fret and wail. Though a part of her wanted to drag her away to safety, she understood. At least the rain was starting to smother the fire. Perhaps it wouldn't be so dangerous for her to stay here for now.

"Alright, alright - just... Be careful, alright?" She nudged the doe - a little awkwardly, probably, but she tried her best to be comforting, "We're going to go look for them. Stay right here so we can find you again."

Floodwater bounded off closer towards the tree. If they had bolted just before it crashed, their little legs probably couldn't have taken them too far - right?

Mud nodded at the others that came up to them. " Okay, I'll look here through the roots, then ill work my way up the tree don't worry love we WILL find them. " With that mud hopped closer to the tree roots that were still smoldering, the rain hit the roots and caused the fire to diminish a bit but the smoke that was pouring off of them was thick and he knew he had to work quickly to search through the roots.

He tried his best to watch his step as he pushed through the still-hot roots. "Hello? Babies? Your mom sent me are you here?" he squeezed into a smaller section of the roots wondering how deep in the kits could have gone.

Rowan hadn't found anything of interest before he heard more wails. He hurriedly scampered off after the sound, managing to trace it to a frantic doe near the roots of the downed tree. He hopped a little closer, wary and trying to give her space so as to not startle her. "Hey, are you okay? It's not really safe to be over here," he said, trying to be gentle. As if to emphasize his point, another bolt of lighting lit up the sky. It took a conscious effort for the buck to avoid flinching in response. He did his best to put on a brave front for the lady. "The tree is on fire and you could get hurt. Do you need help?"

A tree had been shattered by lightning, branches and bark were strewn about and glowed with heat; steam rising with a hiss as the rain hit them. Picking his way carefully through the debris, Sorrel approached and started sniffing around. Other rabbits had come to see what the fuss was all about too apparently, his ears twitching to make out what was said through the pounding rain.

A near miss, it seemed. The doe hadn't been struck, but it sounded like kittens could possibly be missing? He swallowed hard, glad it wasn't his own kittens. He joined the group of furred bodies clustered together in the storm to hear better.

"I'm glad you're alright. Did I hear you say your kits are missing?"

Mud's keen eyes can make out some rabbit-y footprints near the roots of the tree. Mother rabbit's footprints are very clear, and it appears that there are likely three sets of baby footprints, though that isn't entirely clear. Mud can easily trace mother rabbit's footprints to where she is now, but the kit's footprints seem pretty muddied and hard to follow, and then they kit grass. What is clear is that they seem to be leading away from the tree.
