Character:Jin Current Square: 19 to 20 Response: "I would guess so, and well, they can be really amusing depending on how purple prose the author is." He mused following Eir as she put the book away.
"Yes.. I have noticed it is very sharp," He had nicked himself with the edge and nodded as they walked forward. "Tabi couldn't place it, so I'm guessing it is something new to her as well." He flipped it around in his hands, watching the feathers. "They are rather pretty... maybe it a native bird to the area?"
Jin nodded to the fey as he got close enough to join them and be heard without yelling. "It is a pleasure to meet you Saiph, I'm Jin." He said, giving a smile at Eir introductions. "Tracks is it? That seems.... maybe a good thing? Considering the things we have found in the area." They had been finding quiet a bit in this patch of plains land.
"Oh, I should catch up. " He smiled, reaching into the bag to pull out the journal he had pasted the professors note in, and recover the reading glasses and shiny stone. " We found a piece of the professors journal, then this rather odd shiny stone, then the cracked glasses, and well the spear head was just back there." He motion behind him a bit. "Do you have any ideas about it all? I was asking Tabi if she recognized the glasses but she doesn't." He paused considering. “She didn't’ recognized the spear either so I guess we can possible rule out bakeneko and naga since that is her area of study.”

Character:Forzai Current Square: 7 to 12 Response:
Thus far, the little Jackalope seemed to be following Forzai at a cautious distance. Now and then, she'd drop a scattering more of granola, just to keep the little one with her. You never knew when a familiar would come in handy. She hoped that by the end of her adventures in the plains, the creature would trust her enough to allow her a proper chance to train it. She would not want it fully tamed, though. Wild creatures needed to keep a touch of the wild in them to be useful.
Coming across a trampled bit of grass, she tried to determine if these were tracks of the work of her fellow explorers. She kneeled, sniffing at the broken stalks and the overturned dirt. It was fresh; one of the scouting party for certain. Had they found something here? They had paused, that was certain, riffled through the grass...perhaps retrieving something that had fallen. Whatever it was had been small--or light enough--not to leave an impression that Forzai could read. She swept her glance out to those around her, but most of the party were far ahead of her through the fields.
Instead she glanced down to where the Jackalope had settled in near her heel.
"I guess we had best press on, then, shouldn't we?" she asked it.
It blinked up at her with its curious black eyes, whiskers all atwitch. She gave a small smile and nodded to herself. This time, when she forded the grasses with the tip of her bow, the Jackalope followed without needing the granola trail.
Tabi sidled up behind Jin, just as he was finishing explaining that the spear was definitely not of Swirling Sands origins. Perhaps it was the fact that she'd already been on the long carriage ride with these individuals, or that she truly was having trouble getting around on this terrain, but the hybrid felt a small p***k of irritation. She was definitely lagging behind, and it was noticeable. She also felt as though she wasn't being of much help - not finding any clues, not really knowing much of anything. The expedition was not turning up anything definitive thus far - and she was starting to become irritated with it.
She gave a terse smile to the Fey they had stumbled upon, also nodding in greeting. "Nice to meet you," Tabi said. Perhaps she had caught a glance of them once they had all gotten off the carriages - it was safe to assume that anyone out here right now, if they were not damaged and covered in dirt, was likely with the current expedition. As the group regathered, Tabi looked over to the west, rubbing her arm a bit restlessly. She needed a breath of fresh air.
"If you don't mind, I'm going to head this way," she said, just as the others began moving in the opposite direction. Humph. She would discover something on her own, she was sure of it. They hadn't run into any danger on the plains yet, and she didn't really think they were ever going to. She could see for yards around her without trouble. And there was no beast lurking in the grass.

Character:Maoli Current Square: 21 to 22 Response: It was an arm with a hand, right?! There was no way it could be anything else. He flinched slightly at the shoulder pat, wide eyes dashing quickly to Guadalupe before back at the sight. He really should stop looking, his stomach kept flipping. The smell wasn't helping either.
Mouth clenched and tail tucked, he watched the nixie approach the appendage... and then claim it was a spectre fox leg.
Ridiculously enough, it was the fib that got Maoli to finally breath in the foul air. A canime leg, really? He may have had difficulties in biology but it wasn't hard to figure out that spectre foxes lacked fingers and a thumb.
Squeezing his eyes shut for a moment, he nodded, before pushing himself up with eyes still closed. He pivoted a bit before finally looking ahead. Just ignore the arm... just ignore the feasting carrion...
His stomach flipped wildly and he knew he had mere moments before he lost his lunch. Panically, he ran ahead, trying to find some sort of privacy to perform the revolting action. His toes had only just sunk in to soft grass before he loss control of his stomach.
Ugh... this way the worse. What in the world was that. Who's arm was that? What happened to the rest of the body? And to think he screamed like he had and then got sick... this really was the worse.
When he heard Guadalupe was close enough, he finally decided to talk. "I'm not an idiot, you know," he pointed out in a mutter.

Character:Guadalupe Current Square: 21 to 22 Response: It..he couldn't stop staring. Sure, he had recognized that it was another nightmares arm. That was plain as the crows pecking at the left over muscle and the overwhelming stench. But even though the situation was absolutely revolting, he couldn't turn his eyes away from the feast that was happening before him. He didn't even realize that Mao had walked away..that was, until Fiesty nipped at his newly bandaged ankle. Again.
Guadalupe let out a curse and trudged back towards his friend. No way was he leaving without him. "We aren't supposed to split u----"Oh. He needed to---yeah.
Guadalupe grimaced, bringing his hand to his face and wiping it as he tried to calm his own stomach from not turning inside out. He couldn't do that now. He had to take care of Mao, not...also be in the same boat. Why does a rotting limb not make him sick, but hearing someone else get sick causes him to be well--like this. Ugh it was terribly inconveniencing. And weird.
"I know you're not an idiot, ya twit." He sighed, reluctantly coming over and rubbing Maoli's back. "It's not my fault that you need protection. Let's move on, alright?" To hopefully better and brighter things. Lupe was getting the feeling that they weren't paid enough to do all of this. There was no treasure in sight. Even the familiars they got were going to cost them more in the long run. He eyed Fiesty. If not causing him medical bills.
Maybe they'd find some treasure off to the left. [wc: 261]
Character:Forzai Current Square: 12 to 13 Response:
Forzai followed the trail of the other explorers, finding another patch where something had been recovered, but still no sign of what the object might have been. She was stooping, sniffing at the bent grasses when she heard an approaching rustle. She hunched reflexively in the grass, as beside her the tag-along jackalope did the same.
But the figure approaching was no missing person or a ravenous beast. The way the individual slithered forward, glance focused and studious, Forzai could tell she was looking for clues as well.
Standing slowly, lest she startle the Hybrid, Forzai raised her bow in greeting.
"How goes the search?" she asked. "What have you found thus far?"
She stepped a little closer, leaving the trail of the other explorers behind. After all, following in their wake, she would find nothing they had not already overturned. In her periphery, she could see the Jackalope hanging back, sensibly wary of this newcomer.

Character:Saiph Current Square: 19 to 20 Response: Saiph couldn't help but grimace as Eir tried to keep the group's hopes up with her analysis. The fey hybrid supposed it was best to allow them all to stay optimistic about what they might find at the end of their search. Plus, it was hard to say why the hoofed animals had formed such a chaotic circle. Maybe the beasts had just been frightened and then were calmed before anything bad could happen. Damn, now even Saiph was trying to stay positive.
"Yeah, I am," Saiph said as they were questioned as to if they were part of the expedition. "I was in the first carriage with Professor Honeymint so I could ask her my questions before things went underway." As Eir introduced herself and the others following behind her, Saiph nodded their hello. They also felt the urge to continue the search and hoped they'd find evidence of Dr. Horn and company moving about just fine.
They paused before following Eir to take a look at the journal Jin had pulled out. Saiph pulled out their own notebook to quickly jot down what the other hybrid said as well as include the finding of the tracks. "This... really doesn't bode well," Saiph said in response to Jin's question. "Those glasses definitely look modern as was the book I found beneath the trees over there... Definitely have to be from Dr. Horn's group, if not the doctor himself." Saiph blushed having to mention the romance novel again but they had to push through it. "The spearhead also looks fresh considering how basic a weapon it is."
Saiph read the journal page from Dr. Horn and made note that a small group had ventured ahead into the forest. The fey hybrid wondered if the duo had returned or not. Saiph turned to look towards the mentioned forest which loomed dark and foreboding. It was hard to suppress a shudder. Turning back to the group in front of them, Saiph realized Eir and Jin had marched on while the hybrid had been thinking. They ran to catch up to the duo, expecting Tabi and Ligeia to follow.

I know Tabi went off on her but this is just to note that Saiph had their back to her/wasn't paying attention so they don't know Tabi went elsewhere
Eir turned to look to see where her companions were, and saw Tabi heading the other direction then she and Jin, and their new companion, Saiph. Eir felt a little… what was the right feeling? Upset? Sad? Anxious? Maybe some combination of all three? But she felt these things as Tabi struck out on her own away from the group. But there were others out here… she should be ok, right? Shaking her head, Eir tried to keep moving forward.
"Yeah, that book under the trees. An interesting choice to bring on an expedition like this." Eir shrugged. She hadn't brought any books with her, or any way to pass the time. It's why she was so eager to talk to Tabi and the others in the carriage. But now she would have something to read, she supposed, on the way back.
She did her best to walk slow enough to not leave the others behind as Jin shared with Saiph what they'd found so far. She was glad Jin was here because she had already forgotten what was on that paper they found. "You can rule out grimm and nixie craftsmanship too, Jin. There's nothing like that back home." She was, after all, from the hidden tribe of grimm who were sheltered by the nixie since before the war. "Unless there's another pocket of grimm out here." That notion made her tail wag just a little. What if there were other pockets of grimm in hiding? It was very unlikely though. Just up ahead, Eir thought she saw something. She put her hand to her sword as she crouched and ran forward to investigate, but as she got closer to the figure, it became apparent it was simply a rock. She sighed and waited for the others.
"So, Saiph. Have you found anything that could be of any help? Besides that book that is." Of course, that wasn't much help anyways.

Character:Sherbet Current Square: 11 to 16 Response:
As he continued to follow the creek northward and into a gentle basin, Sherbet munched on a granola bar that he had retrieved from his bag. The granola was tasteless and too hard to be as convenient as the marketing advertised, but it at least sated the widening gap in his stomach for a little while. Later, he would have to come up with a real meal.
The creek alongside him burbled a little louder, flowing faster into the lowlands. Up ahead, Sherbet caught a shimmer through the grass on the horizon. It almost looked as though someone had drawn a silvery line between the earth and sky. As he drew closer the line expanded into a pale disk. A lake sprawled out before him, so vast it stretched from one side of his peripheral to the other. He could not make out where the horizon ended and sky began. Together they were indistinguishable gradient of blue.
Sherbet felt a nudge against his ankle. He looked down to see a mossy green sealpup nuzzling his boot. “Ack!” He sprang back. As he did, the sealpup face planted into the beach with a bark of surprise. “Shoo! Go away!” It pushed itself upright a moment later, and slapping its ungainly fins, began to pull itself towards Sherbet.
The chimera danced away—not a difficult task considering the speed at which the sealpup moved. It proved more... tenacious than he would have expected though, and even as he retreated back into the thick of the grasses, he heard rustling after him. Sherbet dug through his bag to retrieve another granola bar. Ripping the plastic off with his teeth, he tossed the snack towards the sealpup. “Stay,” he told it, backing away.
For a moment, the sealpup did as he asked. Abandoning its pursuit of the chimera, it sniffed at the offering, even testing it with a long drag of its tongue. Apparently it decided that the food was not worth its time though, because a second later it went scooting after Sherbet again.
“Really? You think so too, huh?” he asked drily.

Character:Maoli Current Square: 22 to 23 Response: Maoli flinched at the sudden touch on his back, before slumping, straightening up while wiping his mouth. Ugh, that had been exhausting. He felt better just... spent. 'Lupe being near him and comforting him was also worth more than it seemed; the bakeneko was very experienced how badly the nixie took to someone vomiting.
Pulling over his back, he smiled at the jackalope that peeked it's head out, pulling off a water that was hanging on the side. He spent a few moments washing out his mouth before he was finally satisfied, straightening and readjusting his bag.
"Alright, I'm ready," he said after sucking in a large breath. He paused for a moment, surveying their surroundings, before finally moving forward. It was a small blunder, he shouldn't lose sight of what really mattered; finding evidence of extraterrestrial life. "And I don't need your protection!" he snapped, though half heartedly. 'Lupe had comforted him, after all.
Walking along the border of the forest, it was the jackalope's high pitched squeak that had Maoli pause. Two bird's shifted their head to look at them at the noise from the jackalope. Maoli hesitated. They seemed... calm enough? Still, he didn't want to risk Spacey or Fiesty becoming bird food.
"We should just ignore them," he pointed out, trying to walk around the log. One of the birds hopped off, deciding to follow... by foot. Mao passed a hesitant look back at the bird... but it didn't seem to take flight? Could these familiars even fly or did this one just prefer walking? Couldn't fly, maybe? He looked up, seeing a few more in the distance. No, they can definitely fly.

Maybe they had gone on farther? I mean, where else was there to go. Sylvia adjusted the familiar in her arms, giving the thing a pat on the head between the ears. The field stretched ahead, dotted with flowers and butterflies. She took a deep breath. The fey was a daydream, which meant she was native to this world. Sadly, work, life, responsibility had kept her in the dark of the underground. She loved her job and her life, really, but there was something so wonderfully free about the open sky and the smell of fresh life. The wind blew her hair and she momentarily thought about giving up her life as a university professor and instead living up here. Or somewhere like here, obviously this was far too out in the middle of no where.
The fey spotted another nightmare getting close, at least close enough to see and make out the features of. "I see you've found one of these little buggers too." She said to Forzai, indicating the bouncing bunny behind them. "Im just going forward," she said to the nightmare, shrugging. "Not sure where else to go. You going to go straight too?" It would be nice to have some sort of companion. She hoped the other girl was nice at least.

"Keep safe Tabi! " He called and waved to her. He trusted her to know what she was doing. She had spent a lot of times in Swirling Sands and surely had a lot of experience in survival... hopefully. He hoped she wasn't angry with him. But he would handle that later.
Jin carefully packed up the found clues, extra careful with the spear head and paused. Ooh. Eir was getting ahead of them. They should catch up. "Mmh, no grimm or nixie craftmanship... that is good to know... at least none that is familiar." No known groups...
He paused considering the hoof prints and then lifted his own hoof. "Could it be well.. not horses?" He questioned. "But a large group of Kirin? Or Baphomet?" He inquired working to catch up with Eir . Wait had she found someone? Could it be... ooh, no. That that was just a big rock. Maybe they could see better on top of it? He worked on climbing up the rock peering out in the distance.
The forest was in the distance, and it was seeming that something might have came from there and out in the plains. They had started calmly it seemed, judging by the camp and the journal pages. Then had been disturbed? Ambushed? Maybe he was thinking to much on this.

Character:Ligeia Current Square: 19 to 24 Response: "That's my thinking too. I don't recall any hearing anything of the expedition bringing horses." Ligeia frowned at the possibilities that formed in her mind. If they did, could the professor and his team pulled their horses around to camp? No, that was silly. The dirt was disturbed enough that there had to have been some degree of speed to kick up all the soil and grass. If they did have horses and they were spooked, they'd have taken off across the plains or headed for the forest, not race in circles. If they didn't, wild horses certainly wouldn't have come to hassle a group of people, though if those horses had riders...
The offered name drew the woman from her musing. Blinking to the blue fey, she smiled. "Pleasure to meet you, Saiph. I'm Ligeia." A few others, a Grimm and a couple of other hybrids, joined and took their turns considering their findings. She listened to their thoughts and introductions. When the group opted to follow the tracks, the hallowed hybrid hooked her thumbs into the shoulder straps of her bag.
"It was nice to see you all, but I think I'll keep blazing new trails. Better to spread out to see what there is to see. Be safe out here." Offering a salute to her fellow search party members as they moved elsewhere, Ligeia sighed. "Okay, Udara, I think we've looked at these hoof prints and trampled grass enough. Let's see if north hold any more secrets...Or new vistas of sweeping grassland. We'll see."
