Kyl gave a slight frown when Hawkeye seemed unconcerned with what he had been showing him about his tail. Maybe the man knew more about it than he did and it was normal. He wondered again if when how many of his kind had Hawkeye encountered, but on the same thing he didn't seem to know any of Kyl's language. It made the mermaid more and more confused until he was handed something and his thoughts became distracted with the biscuit he had been handed. It was another entirely new thing to him. "Breakfast..." Kyl murmured looking over the biscuit. There were things on the thing he had been handed that were curious to the mermaid as well. he stuck his tongue out and tasted it. He was surprised by the sweet tastes he got and was quick to nibble on it. "Good." Kyl chirped after a minute.

Hawkeye was pleased with Kyl's learning with numbers and letters and food and objects during the week. Even time, weekdays and months. This was compulsory learning at its highest form. They had evolved from broken sentences to at least solid sentences and maybe a random half paragraph. Here or there.
Now he was trying to comprehend what just he walked into. Everything from the temperature to location, water density, dietary, health, the list was endless. He thought he had done something that caused Kyl to well...he couldn't find the word. His mind connecting the dots that happened day by day. He breathed deeply. It happened to be that, that is what caused the metamorphism of this Mermaid to be come...human...or more human like.
"Kyl..." A chilled breakfast fruit soup and hot cornbread with butter and honey in his hands on the seventh day. "Kyl...is now, human?"

Kyl had been distracted the rest of the day from the slight change in his scales while he learned more from Hawkeye. He had learned many more words and about time, time was a strange concept to Kyl considering he didn't really have it where he lived. There were certain things he could tell by the currents changing like when the best time to hunt was but that wasn't at the same time.
The next day had been more concerning when he had woken to find most of the blue gone out of the scales on his tail. That and his tail seemed shorter to him. That had continued on for the next couple days. His tail had changed completely in color and then had begun to change all together to the point where he had finally had the same appendages as Hawkeye. Kyl had been so confused about the changes and blamed Hawkeye for them the first couple of days. So much so that the second day when the color had gone from his tail's scales he had hid under the ledge that Hawkeye was normally at refusing to come out. It had taken Hawkeye nearly all day to coax him out. Now he was sitting on the ledge kicking what he now knew to be feet in the water, his tail had completely changed the day before leaving him mostly human with only the scales specaling his chest and neck and his gills. Today however his gills had gone to, he couldn't go under water for any period of time, he didn't know what holding his breath was. He had never had to do that before, the only good thing to come of his changing was that his lungs had grown just a bit and he could sit outside of the water and breathe without it being labored. He looked up to Hawkeye as the man came up the outside of what he now knew to be a tank of the water he normally lived in.
"Hawkeye, there gone, my gills, I can't breathe now." Kyl complained to the man. He looked to the food the man carried with a hum but then looked back to the water frowning, his skin felt dry except for his butt and legs which were still in the water. Everything else had been above the water for at least an hour now when he had figured out that he couldn't breathe. His hair was completely dry for the first time in his life now and had darkened a bit with his change so it looked more black than blue now, but still had the blue tinges down closer to the tips of his hair. His eyes had thankfully stayed the same not that he really knew what they looked like though.

Hawkeye placed the tray down and went to get a portable oxygen tank. With Kyl's gills gone, he had to use his lungs more and possibly the genetic trait for such an organ was losing effect and would shorty become non-existent. He placed the mask on Kyl's face.
"Breathe slow Kyl. Take as long as you need." Surely Kyl can't go for long with out oxygen. He'd need to give him supplements that would help increase the hemoglobin's abilities to hold oxygen. And he needed to give it in high concentrations for effect.
Hawkeye went to the cabinet and pulled out supplements such as iron and omegas and others and began to compound them into a paste. It would take too long for Kyle to ingest this normally, he'd would need to inject it into the blood stream directly.
He returned with a small catheter and a needle filled with the supplements and a tourniquet.
"Kyl, I have to give you medicine like what I put on your tail not too long abo, but I have to do something different. Please trust me. This will hurt but this medicine will help you breathe better."
He took Kyl's arm and began to do what doctors and nurses would do with starting an IV drip in the crook of a patients elbow. He had taken the paste and watered it down with saline solution so that Kyl could also be hydrated.
"Let me know when you can breathe better."

Kyl gave a whine when Hawkeye merely set down the tray he had been carrying and moved off. What he brought back was another curious thing to the mermaid. He allowed Hawkeye to put something over his face and was a bit surprised when he had been breathing after a few minutes that his head felt more clear. He nodded when Hawkeye told him to breathe slow and take as long as he needed. He watched as the man moved away again wondering now what else he was going to get. The man seemed more concerned now that Kyl had a lack of gills now.
Curiousity had almost overwhelmed the mermaid with how long the human had been gone mixing things. He perked up when the man finally returned and tilted his head when he said he had to give him medication. He hadn't been fond of that last time, but the stuff had seemed to help him heal the split in his scales quicker. He frowned hearing it would hurt but merely nodded he trusted Hawkeye the man had yet to hurt him on purpose without a good reason for it. So he allowed the man to take his arm and watched the man work only giving a whimper when the needle was pushed into his skin. But he didn't lash out and bite this time, he had known the pain was coming and he also knew that Hawkeye didn't want to hurt him. He nodded when the man told him to let him know when he could breathe easier. He already could with the mask on his face but sat still waiting as the medicine worked its way through his blood stream. He could feel as the solution in his blood reached his lungs. He took a soft little gasp as his chest felt different with the solution promoting growth through his lungs.
"I... I think its working." Kyl finally said after a few minutes when he was almost sure what he was feeling was what the man had been waiting for. Or looking for when he was asked to let him know when he was breathing better. He worried then about what he was supposed to do now that he couldn't be within water to sleep. It seemed that what his tail had transformed to didn't like staying in the water too much either, his new appendages seemed wrinkled in a way. "Hawkeye, what do I do?" he wondered to the man.

He could only watch Kyl's complexion return to normalcy as he slowly injected the supplement and saline solution into Kyl's arm. Hydration was key, it did not matter how long as a human being you were in the water, you still needed to hydrate internally. And it seemed that Kyl's breathing got easier and not so laden and heavy short.
"That's good." He sighed in relief. However, he kept the mask on Kyl, best to enrich the hemoglobin even further for at least another hour. Then Kyl brought up a whole new subject in reference to his lower half.
"About that. For right now, sit up here on the ledge." He pondered it, from tail to legs. Now he needed to teach Kyl how to walk and how to dress as a human. "The next task is going to be hard to learn. Walking and as a human, you need to be clothed too."

Kyl smiled at the relieved look Hawkeye had once they had deemed the medicine to be working on the mermaid. He was glad that it was working and that he seemed to have more breathe and that his head felt normal now. Everything really seemed a bit clearer with the medicine working and for that he was glad despite the bits of pain he had felt. He nodded when Hawkeye told him for the time being knowing that the man had a better idea of what to do at the moment than he did. He had no idea what to do really, he couldn't be in the water that had been his home for so long and that disturbed him.
Looking up to Hawkeye as the man said that the next task was to get him to learn to walk and be clothed and that those would be hard. He wasn't opposed to difficult teachings but it seemed like there would be much more to the task than what he had experienced with learning Hawkeye's words. He decided after a moment that he would deal with the tasks when it came time. "Will I change back?" Kyl asked in a small voice after a few quiet moments.

"In regards to changing back...I don't know but only you know the limitations of your body and can sense when it changes. I can only observe and pick up on queues externally." He thought a little more. "Time wise, that is a factor we don't know.
He stood. "Well, First you need get dressed, I'll go dig something up of mine and show you how. Once you have enough oxygen in your blood stream, we'll eat then its learning how to walk."
Hawkeye was gone to rummage through a box of cloths from his teenage years, pulling out some underwear, pants, shirt and a sweat jacket, he returned. These might be a little too big on you but they will have to do till I can show you how we humans live."

Kyl didn't know what to say about Hawkeye's response about him changing back. He hadn't really sensed anything when he had started changing to what he was now, but he had also been through on of the storms and thought he was going to die. Then there had been so many interesting things to focus on "And we still don't know why I changed." Kyl stated. He had though about everything leading up to him changing, not knowing how far back it might have started. There was so much out of the ordinary since he had untangled Hawkeye from the snow coral. He knew now that it had been him, all those times he had gone to the snow coral it had been Hawkeye.
Looking up to the man as he said that the first thing Kyl needed to do was get dressed had the mermaid frowning. It was the first of the two tasks Hawkeye had said he would need to do. He nodded when the man continued to say that once he had enough oxygen they would eat then move on to the second task. He had almost forgotten about food with everything and the medicine that the man had been giving him. He waited patiently for Hawkeye to return and his green eyes widened at what the man brought back. "Extra skin?" Kyl questioned seeing the clothes in Hawkeye's hands. He still didn't quite see the purpose of clothes even after Hawkeye had explained it to him. Humans seemed strange in that way to want to cover everything up.

Extra skin? "No Kyl. Its protection for your skin. There are things in the world above the ocean that can cause us humans to get sick." He pointed out each piece of clothing and helped Kyl get dressed.
"I have my assumptions as to what might have caused it but until it can be confirmed, we're in the dark. I don't want to jump to conclusions yet." Hawkeye smiled. "A little longer and I'll remove the mask and we'll eat."
They talked over this and that and Hawkeye only removed himself to go reheat the cornbread and came back with the food. And they proceeded to eat. "I think for now, to keep you comfortable, its best to learn how to walk up here on the ledge, your body will be in shock to find itself walking on a solid surface once you are removed from the water."

Kyl frowned when Hawkeye told him the clothing was protection for his skin against things above the ocean that would make Hawkeye's kind sick. "I'll get sick without these?" Kyl questioned after he had been dressed. He didn't like the feeling of this protection against his skin it felt strange and a bit scratchy like he had rubbed against a particular plant near home. He looked up when Hawkeye said he had his own assumptions as to why Kyl had changed. "What? What was it?" he questioned not caring about jumping to conclusions as he nodded about having the mask a little longer before eating.
They ate in relative peace, Kyl finding he liked more of the foods that Hawkeye brought to him. It seemed humans had many different kinds of food or different shapes and tastes. "I am to be removed from the water?" Kyl questioned his green eyes a bit wide. Besides the storm he had never been completely removed from the water before. It was his home, where he had been born and when he had been out of it after the storm had caught him he had felt like he had been dying. The problem was though he was merely sitting in the water now with new appendages that didn't seem to entirely care for the water. He had changed, maybe that meant he didn't need the water now.

"Not completely removing you, you are free to return to the water as you wish but the dangers of water are different for humans no matter of how excellent a swimmer one might be. I could easily drown if I tired myself out or my body loses too much heat." Relaying even he was at risk.
"Well, the first step to walking is learning how to crawl. Its how humans grow up from being babies to children to adults." It was too early to show him education from a monitor, that was another whole level of schooling. He got down on his knees and hands. "This is how to crawl." He moved one hand forward and followed it up with the leg on the other side and then hand of same side to the leg of the other side. Kyl would need to get used to how his legs move from the hips to the knees.

Kyl looked a bit relieved to hear Hawkeye tell him that he would be free to return to the water whenever he wished. He was concerned when the man told him that the dangers of the waters were different for humans and how Hawkeye could drown if he tired out or lost too much body heat. "Will I do that now too without my gills?" Kyl asked softly, he hadn't been able to stay underwater earlier and his chest had hurt when he had tried to breath beneath the water like he breathed above it.
Listening to Hawkeye as the man told him that human learned to walk from starting off crawling. The demonstration Hawkeye gave him was strange but he shifted to the same position as Hawkeye had shown him. His legs were far closer together than Hawkeye's were though the mermaid to used to them being one appendage instead of two. As a result the brushed against each other throwing Kyl a bit off balance when he attempted to crawl.
