"Night never ending
The weapons we bring are our souls
You know, You know
You know what it means to feel real
So rise up, claim the sky
We fight, We fight
Night never ending.”

Drizyrr Zaulyl

She didn't seem to quite understand the intent behind his gesture, or at least she had chosen not to react in that manner, but that was probably for the best. Likely he made for a better friend than a romantic partner, especially with the psychological condition he was currently in. That and if his most recent ex-wife knew he cared for someone, it was like painting a target on her back. He tensed once more when she picked him up. He was like a cat that way, he didn't like not being in control of his own body, and up in the air like that, he had almost no control. That and he hadn't expected her to be so strong. He wasn't a very big person, but still, he wasn't a welterweight. Or maybe he was a welterweight around here, he was kind of smaller than most of the males. For that matter, he was pretty much the same height as her, and probably weighed a little less. Man he was tiny here. "Yeah...I guess I am. Though did I just ruin the progress?" To be fair, being picked up was not part of the training before, so he could be forgiven for failing something new, right? Well, now it was something else he would have to get used to.

...And then the cactus had stolen her away again, saying something that made her annoyed. He really had no clue what it was, but soon she was opening windows, which let in a fairly nice breeze. Though to be fair, everything seemed a little hot to him, but that wasn't saying much, caves were usually very cool. Was this how it was going to be? him vying for her attentions with a cactus? He wasn't sure how long he would end up tolerating that, though if she found out he had sabotaged the cactus, she would likely be quite cross. Worse, he couldn't speak to the plants or hear them, so he wouldn't know when one was about to squeal on him. And did psychological assaults even work on plants? Could he intimidate it into releasing its grasp on her? Well, for now he would let it be, and concentrate on courting her away from the prying needles of his adversary. He had legs, it didn't, he would win this.
"Are they all talking to you all of the time? I can't imagine what it would be like to have so many voices inside my head like that, especially demanding voices."

"Long was the hour for the valiant knight that would ne'er be sick or slain
Lonely the bower in the candle light with neither kith nor kin
Storm clouds over the full moon raced, as he swung to the dapple grey
And man and horse to the westward faced on the eve of an All Saints' Day.

He's laid his hand on his hunting horn and with his dying breath
Has blown a blast to the blazing morn that would rouse the angel of death
High in the cusp of the starry night he heard his grey hawk mew
As out of the misty morning light his ghostly greyhounds flew.

Waillee waillee my noble lord who wakes me from my rest
There's none can heal the wounds of time that lie bloody on your breast"

It was no surprise that Drizyrr would tense up the way he did when she had picked him up. It was a rather unexpected action she did, anyways. However, she did take notice at how light he was compared to her. Well, she hadn't really picked herself up before - there was no real possible way - but it did kind of make her a bit more self conscious. " Am I really that heavy...? I really need to cut the junk food! " Before she integrated herself into modern society, she was actually thinner since she was just being out in the forest, living off of the vegetation. She was still curvy, but just not as...plump. Nowadays, she's been indulging into too much rich food. She wasn't obese...yet, but she still needed to have some more self restraint! She needed discipline! Ceres was almost so caught up with the thoughts on her weight that she nearly didn't hear him ask about his progress. " O-Oh, no! You just didn't expect me to pick you up. That's just normal. I am kind of a...spontaneous person, I suppose... " she gave a little shrug before her eyes turned towards the cactus. " Also, the other plants are actually fairly quiet! It's just that little pompous creature that's loud and demanding. " Ceres crossed her arms over her chest and gave a little 'hmph' as Mr. Prickles gave her some sass like always. At this point, she was still learning how to ignore his comments. " The little ones are always the loudest, most obnoxious ones. But I blame myself for spoiling him. I guess I'd be the "push-over" mother, if I had kids that is. " Mr. Prickles was actually pretty young! If he was a human, he would've only been about 10 years old.

Looking up at the Drow, she gave a tiny smirk before whispering in his ear, low enough so that the cactus wouldn't hear her, not that she cared though. " I think he's a bit jealous of you~ He thinks you're stealing all of the attention. He's just trying to act big and tough. " Drizyrr probably wouldn't know that since he didn't understand the plants, but Ceres thought the behavior from Mr. Prickles was bright as day. It's probably because she's had him for about 6 months now.

At least he had been forgiven for getting nervous when she picked him up. It didn't so much surprise him that she could do it, just that she had done it, though as she had said, she was rather impulsive. "Well, I'm glad there aren't too many loud and obnoxious ones here. I should hate for you to have to listen to all of that useless prattle." He couldn't help but rub in his victory a little, he was being challenged by a cactus of all creatures! Every victory was proof that at least in courtship, man was greater than plant. "My youngest sister was much the same way: tiny for a woman, but twice as vicious. Though I must say, her bite was worse than her bark. Infinitely." And there were plenty enough scars to prove it. As was tradition, it had been his youngest sister's duty to raise him. She was about seventy years his senior, so fairly young, but there was no youthful mercy in her heart, that was for sure. "Aye, you probably would be the push-over, the ones they would come to if they really wanted something. If you had kids, of course. But is it really so bad to be the push-over? I-" He couldn't finish that thought. It was something he had deliberated for a long long time, had he been too easy on his children? Out of the ten children he had sired, six of them still lived. The four who had died were of the same household, which had been destroyed out of jealousy and malice. Would they have fared any better had he been stricter with them? Would his son have survived if he had pushed him harder? Likely the only thing that would have changed would be they wouldn't have been so close, but he could never help but think maybe it was his fault after all. He hadn't raised them right (though of course he was not permitted all that much influence in the raising) and he had left them when they needed him. Their blood was on his hands.

He could only manage a weak smile when she told him that the cactus was just jealous and trying to act all big and imposing. Sure it meant that his competition wasn't so great, but at the moment, he wasn't feeling so big and tough either. The cactus could probably take him.

Noticing the somewhat somber look on his face, Ceres gave a small frown before she gently cupped his face in her hands. He seemed to have been in a pleasant mood just a few moments ago, so what was making him so sad again? Was it his nightmare? She pushed some of his hair out of his face before she pushed her cheek against his, rubbing them together almost playfully. She honestly didn't know what to do to cheer him up besides acting silly like she usually does. She then wrapped her arms around his shoulders, giving him the usual squeeze. " Don't look so sad! " She rubbed her cheek on his a bit more vigorously, almost as if she were trying to shake the bad thoughts out of his head - if that were possible. The Dryad wasn't the best at giving advice about situations she hadn't experienced for herself. The only thing she seemed good at was smothering people in affection. Sometimes unwanted affection. Removing her cheek from his, Ceres, still holding onto his face, looked at him with some frustration. It wasn't towards him, mainly she was just frustrated at herself since she didn't know what to do. She still need certifications for his backstory! She had no key to unlock his brain and she couldn't force him to tell her. Being like his ex-wives was something that she was NOT wanting to do. He had choices and options now, so she wanted him to have those at his disposal.

Her cheeks puffed out as her frustration and tension built up. She was even turning a little red! " I...I don't know how or what to do to help you! Just... ughh..! " Cutting herself off, she began to kiss the crap out of Drizyrr's face. Smothering was what this woman was best at; smothering was what she was going to do! The Dryad kissed his face all over, even his lips! Well...not really right on the lips, but like on the small corner of his mouth. She wasn't that bold to do that out of the blue! Maybe one day, but not today! When she finally stopped the woman huffed and puffed like she was letting out steam. And although her face wasn't red anymore, her cheeks still had a slight pinkish hue to them.

Drizyrr Zaulyl

She was really trying so hard to comfort him, but this was a deep rooted pain that wouldn't go away so easily. Hell, it had lasted several centuries already, a few moments wasn't going to solve it. Still, he let her do with him as she pleased. Such affectionate contact wasn't something he was used to, but it felt good against the misery deep in his chest. "I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to." He tried not to look sad, but he wasn't even sure how to go about it. He had always kept a strong appearance around everyone, lest they sniff out any weakness, but that had been an impassive look, which wasn't what he wanted to cultivate with her. He didn't know how to show any of himself without letting the broken pieces be seen. He wasn't even sure if there was anything to show that hadn't been broken.

And now his melancholy was starting to annoy her. It was logical, he was being so needy and worthless, worse than the cactus he had thought of as his opponent. But at least the cactus only seemed demanding and rude, not weak like he was. She was really getting mad at him now, and he almost wished she had the viper whip of his people, so she could take her frustration out on his flesh like others had done before her. Pain was something he could deal with, it was easy, and even better, it built a silent rage in him that fueled him for days on end. What she did instead astounded him. She kissed him? And not just once, but all over. That wasn't rage at him then, it was feeling hopeless and helpless, much like he had on many occasions. She was really willing to put herself through so much, just to make him happy? It was a novel experience. He hadn't wanted his first kiss with her to have been out of pity though. Oh well, he could do better next time, he promised himself. He smiled ever so slightly,
"thank-you for that. I know I am bad at showing, but it meant quite a lot to me." He sighed ever so slightly before continuing, "I owe you an explanation. I know you didn't ask me for one, and you have been very kind not to pressure me into saying anything, but I have been a terrible companion thus far, and I owe you at least a partial explanation." Now how to go about saying this? He knew that he sounded used up just by saying he had five ex-wives, but it added a whole new layer of spent when he admitted he had kids. And not just one or two. Hell, he felt pretty spent himself, even though it was likely that given forty or fifty years he could probably sire another child. Maybe. But it seemed like such a chore now. "Back in my homeland, I was seen as a decent mate, as I had a strong record of producing daughters. My oldest is 538, my youngest is elven. Of the ten, only one was a son, which is a good trait in a husband, according to drow society. Most of them are doing well for themselves, but the ones produced by my second wife, four of them including my son...they...they no longer live. The entire household was killed in cold blood by a rival house who had grown annoyed with my ex-wife. I was divorced from her at the time, so I probably would have been killed if I was spotted on the property, but I could never help but wonder if it would have made a difference if I was there. Would I have saved any of them or would I have been killed like the rest? Or maybe I failed at raising them? Maybe that was how someone was able to kill them. I didn't hear about it until quite a while later, they had already carried out the funerals and everything. And I did find out who had done it and had my revenge, but...it did nothing to bring back my son or my daughters. Just left me with more blood on my hands." He cleared his throat and forced a smile to return, but it was sad and feeble. "But that was centuries ago. No point in dwelling on the past, right?" If only it were that easy.

It seemed as though her showering Drizyrr with kisses cheered him up, even though it was shown through a faith smile. Something was better than nothing! Still, she felt like he was still feeling down. Ceres was honestly prepared to go back into her barrage of kisses once more, but stopped herself when he began to explain where some of his pain came from. Honestly, the fact that he was so old - no offense - and had multiple ex-wives, she figured that kids would come up sooner or later. It was only natural, right? Even though he was pretty much a slave to his ex-wives, she thought that they'd still want kids despite their... aggressive and abusive nature to Drizyrr. Oh god, how were the kids treated? Well, she supposed the girls would be fine since Drow society was basically a matriarchal one, but his son... Did he suffer as much as his father before he was killed? Such thoughts ran through her mind before she looked back at him, the worry was gone, but she still felt sympathy for the man. He had been through so much over centuries! She was surprised that he even had an inkling of motivation to stay alive. If she were in his shoes, she didn't know if she'd be strong enough mentally to keep herself afloat without having thoughts of suicide... Even now, after being abandoned by her own kind, every now and then those kinds of dark thoughts past through her. Ceres was close to doing it a couple times, but some internal instinct always managed to stop her. Thank goodness for it too, or else she wouldn't have been able to meet Drizyrr if she did.

When the Drow started questioning his skills as a father figure, she gently stroked his cheek with her thumb. " Don't beat yourself up about it too much. Based on my experience with you, although it has been pretty brief, I think you were probably a good father to them, especially your son. You can't just...over think about situations - the "what if's" of that tragedy. The more you keep thinking about what could have happened or whether or not you could have prevented it only ends up hurting you more in the end. Believe me, you just saw me in that little predicament earlier, and it doesn't help. Although, I'm not sure if I can take that kind of pain away, I am grateful that you decided to share this with me. Maybe I can at least help you with your burdens as you have done with mine? If you allow me that is... " The Dryad just really wanted to be there for him and help him. She wasn't the wisest person nor was she bright with common sense, but she was an empathetic person. Someone who could understand a lot of people's problems and accept them as they are. She was a simple people pleaser.

He smiled just a little. It really felt like she understood him in a way that he hadn't experienced in a long time. She wasn't about telling him what to do or any bullshit like "I know how you feel." She was offering herself up as a companion and someone who would listen without judging. That was rare to find. "Thank you. For everything, truly. I'm not one typically inclined to share my burdens, but I will try. I think, I think I have shared all of the ones I can for now. Maybe in the future I will explain more, just not yet." It was a terrifying prospect, having his crimes and woes laid out before him. Not only did it mean subjecting himself to someone else's scrutiny, it meant laying himself bare, having no reserve to crawl back into and hide. It wasn't something he had done since he was a young child. "Don't think this will apply, but don't die and don't make me kill innocents. I think that's what I need most for now. Killing the wicked, or convincing a rude cactus to keep its mouth shut are perfectly fine though." Take that Mr. Prickles, he was back in the game again. She had said not to think about the "what-ifs" but it was pretty hard not to do. Even she had a hard time with it, or so it seemed. But maybe in time he would be able to look back on it like an event in a history textbook and realize there were no alternatives, or at least there was nothing he could do now.

He looked over to the clock and was surprised to see how late it was getting.
"I hate to ruin this moment, but it seems to be afternoon now. When do you need to start getting ready for work? I was thinking while you were dressing, I would sharpen my blades, but I also need to run by my house and get the rest of them. Plus get them perfectly ready. And don't worry, I won't do anything that would get me in trouble, or rather, I won't let anyone catch me doing it. Your honor and comfort are paramount to me, so of course I will escort you to work and make sure no one treats you ill." It felt empowering to offer such services. Back home, the women could take care of it on their own, all they had to worry about was the men not making fools of themselves. Maybe her putting him to use would help him feel better about himself.

It looked like Drizyrr was feeling a little bit better! He was even poking some slight fun at Mr. Prickles. It seems like the two were just in the beginning stages of their little rivalry, although, the cactus probably wouldn't have a chance. Mr. Prickles was a simple plant after all. He wasn't a man with legs like the Drow was. Oh well, poor bud. Now that the current mood wasn't as tense as it was earlier, Ceres felt a slight wash of relief...that is until he mentioned the time. Was it really that late already?! " W-What...? " Her eyes shot up at the clock only to see that she was pretty much close to being late for work...ON HER FIRST DAY! This was definitely not the way to start off at her new job! The Dryad panicked and scrambled off to her room, tripping half the way there. In a hurry, she tried to take her pajamas off as fast as she could before she could squeeze herself into a pair of jeans, which were honestly a bit snug, and a loose t-shirt. She didn't really have to get all dolled up before work, she could just get ready there since apparently there was a dressing room there for the dancers. Ceres was struggling with her pants zipper when the plants in the house told her some important info. Her clocks were an hour fast! THANK GOODNESS!

Relieved, she went back into the kitchen and started to adjust the time accordingly. " Good thing about being friends with the plants, they always seem to have their life together more than me. They help me out...a bit too often, if I must be honest... " She was a little embarrassed that she went into complete freak out mode so quickly. If she had been a more responsible adult, she would be able to catch the little things, like making sure the clocks were at the right time. Hearing Drizyrr make a comment about needing to go home to grab more weapons, she looked at him surprisingly. " You need MORE than the ones you have already on you? Driz... we're going to a bar, not to a war. If anything, you can fight off drunkards easily with your fists... I appreciate the effort, though~"

You know, You know
You know what it means to feel real
So rise up, claim the sky
We fight, We fight
Night never ending.”

He had not been sure when she needed to leave, but apparently he had spoken up none too soon. He stood by the door as she hurried about, though he made a move to help her when she nearly tripped. Soon though he found out that he had worried her for naught. Apparently the plants knew something neither of them did. For now he wouldn't press going to his place, he would probably just pop over on the way. "I am sure they appreciate being able to help someone. Unless things are radically different, I don't believe many can hear their words. And why not rely upon them when they are so convenient and generally available? Sounds like using resources effectively to me." Maybe she did rely upon plants too often, but it seemed to work for her most of the time. In time, she might come to rely upon him in a similar manner, but for now he would need to prove himself worthy of such trust.

"What? No more weapons? What if I trade out a few? I could get rid of the poisoned daggers? I just would feel a little safer with even my scimitar at my side. Having a larger weapon would scare away the weaker-willed thugs who might mess with us. I know I could fight them off, even in hand-to-hand combat, which is not my strength, but I wouldn't need to get in as many fights if I had an easily-visible deterrent." He already felt practically naked and vulnerable with only a few daggers on him. He wouldn't even have to take the broadsword, just the scimitar. Broadswords were better in open areas anyway, too big and unwieldy to work in the cramped confines of a bar. Scimitars on the other hand were light and agile, they would be able to weave through a crowd. He knew he had changed at least a little: back home he would not have had the nerve to argue or even plead with a woman, nor would he have pleaded with someone instead of flat-out doing things his way. Somehow she had emboldened yet tamed him.

Man, Ceres really was a push-over. Placing her hands on her hips, she looked at Drizyrr a bit seriously before her "serious" looked turned into her usual silly, warm self. " Alright, alright! Fine, you can switch them out. " She guessed that regular non-poisonous daggers were technically "safer" than the ones that were laced. Besides, she figured that him having knives and such on him wouldn't hurt since there wouldn't be a big guarantee that he would need to use them. Noticing that her zipper was still down, Ceres quickly went to fix herself up before she went ahead and went to go find her sandals. Even though it was sprinkling, she didn't want to bring a jacket, umbrella, or wear her usual rubber rainboots. The Dryad quite enjoyed the rain, and kind of liked playing in the puddles. Today, though, she would try to resist that urge.

When she found her shoes, the woman smiled and went ahead and slipped her feet into them before she looked over at the Drow curiously. " Soooo, how do we get to your house? Since you've seen my home, I'm kind of curious to see yours! Besides, we do have time, so a quick little pit stop wouldn't hurt. " At this point, she let her imagination run wild with how she thought his house would look like. Was it riddled with weapons she hadn't seen before? Did he secretly like to decorate his house all fancy like? Ohh, did he have any pets? These were probably somewhat childish thoughts, but she couldn't help it! Her curiosity always had a strong grip on her mind, especially when she was just a young sapling. The Dryad practically wiggled in glee from her little thoughts.

He grinned when she finally consented to letting him carry the scimitar. Whether or not she knew what a scimitar was he didn't know, but they really weren't that intimidating, just big one-handed curved swords. No big deal, right? And in exchange he would leave both of the poisoned daggers he had on him at home. Seemed perfectly fair. "It is a fairly attractive sword, so maybe onlookers will think it decorative or a symbol of rank, and not a highly efficient weapon." Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned the fact that it was a good weapon, that might make her less agreeable to him having it. Well, at least it wasn't his broadsword, that would have been just plain excessive.

He noted how excited she was getting about going to his house. He shook his head slightly,
"I can tell you are quite excited about seeing my home. Well, I hate to ruin your fun, but it is not very exciting. Most of it is sparely furnished with no decor. The kitchen came the way it is, and is decidedly not to my taste, and I only have the weapons that were upon my person when I transported. That and I will need to see if there is enough light in there for you to even see. I managed to purchase some heavy curtains earlier, makes it habitable for me. Oh, and it is in the Ombre district. Not sure if that means anything or not." He made sure the sunglasses were securely on before offering her his arm to escort her. If she continued to express interest in seeing his home, he would take her by, if not, they could just meet later.

Ooc: Either way is fine with me. His place isn't very impressive, so her interest might quickly wain. Also, here is a picture of a drow with twin scimitars. For size comparison purposes.

Ceres somewhat had second thoughts on allowing him to bring the sword, but she guessed that having a sword still wouldn't be as bad as poison daggers. Some poisons didn't kill you quick, they'd just kill you nice and slow so the pain would be intense before one would die. Although, she didn't know for sure if that was the type of poison that was covered on those daggers. Honestly, it was probably best if she never found out. " Sorry to burst your bubble, Driz, but most people nowadays won't see a sword as a status symbol. I guess what requirements that give people a certain "rank" is simply just the amount of money one has, or even how big the house is that they live in. This day and age has become very...materialistic, I suppose. Still, I doubt anyone is going to try to willingly challenge you when you have a whole freakin' sword. So I guess it'll just be a symbol of "don't mess with me" ." The Dryad chuckled at the thought of someone who'd be foolish enough to want to try and fight Drizyrr with a sword in hand. It would be brave, but honestly more foolish. However, the Drow did promise not to get caught, so she doubted that he would finish a fight in the open. He'd probably take it somewhere more discreet.

Anyways, as Drizyrr explained that his house wasn't all that exciting, Ceres still kept her eager smile. " Plain or not, going somewhere new is always special to me. Every place has their differences. Also, if you're worried about your home not being decorated, feel free to take Mr. Prickles with you! That'll probably teach him some manners! " Of course, the cactus protested from afar, but Ceres just chose to ignore it. The sooner he was gone, the sooner she could go back to living in peace and quiet. Before the two left, she went and grabbed a small duffel bag that had her outfit for work. She was most likely going to be embarrassed wearing it out in the open, but at least she'd be getting paid to wear it. Seeing the arm he was offering, the woman wrapped her arm around it, following the Drow to his home.

He was a little saddened that the ornateness of a weapon no longer carried much significance, but maybe that just meant that this society was less warlike, and only had weapons as show pieces. "I think money and possessions have always been a sign of status, at least that I have observed, but I guess in other societies there were other forms of status. Oh well. I am just as content to have a 'don't mess with me' status as any other sort, actually probably prefer it. Though if someone is carrying one of those wands of magic missile, it won't matter what sort of weapon I am carrying." He had never used a gun, and had only seen them in images, but he was aware that they shot small pellets at high velocity. Really it pretty much was a reloadable device that cast magic missile, an easy spell, but a very effective one at that. No mage should leave home without it. He definitely wanted one of these weapons, but at the same time he despised them. It seemed there was very little skill involved, just aim and cast, maybe there was some magical backlash to contend with, but it didn't seem nearly as difficult as using a sword. Further, these new wands had incredible range, you barely had to be able to see your target, whereas with a sword, you knew who you were about to kill.

He laughed when she suggested he take the little cactus home with him. True he would be the only other living being in his home, but it was still probably not a good idea.
"I doubt you are so annoyed with him that you would wish his death. There is very little light in my house. I would probably have to put him on the other side of a curtain on a window ledge, and if he tried to attack me, he would just fall off the ledge and break his pot. No, I'm pretty sure you could find a way to punish him without sentencing him to death." He lead her out of the Etoile district and into the Ombre district, though he would have to pause every now and then to get his bearings. He was still relatively new, so he did not know the layout particularly well, but he could recognize features, even in this much light.

On the way to her house, the two barely had any problems. It was a usual thing to get cat-called every now and then when she was by herself, but since she was practically clinging onto Drizyrr's arm, she didn't even get so much as a perverse look! When they finally got inside, Ceres went ahead and adjusted the blinds on her windows to where the house darkened a bit. It wasn't intensely dark like it was in his house, but it should've been to the point where he would be okay with his sunglasses off. Since it was already dark outside, he should have been fine. It was strange though, she hadn't heard a word from Mr. Prickles. With a raised brow, the Dryad looked all over the house until she spotted him...OUTSIDE? Did she forget to bring him in? She knew she had let him out since it was a bit rainy the other day...but she must've been in a hurry to get to work and neglected to bring him back in! " M-Mr. Prickles..! " Running out of her house, she ran over to the left side and picked him up off of the ground. His pot was smashed since he fell from such a height. Quickly, she checked his roots to make sure they were okay, and thank goodness they were! " I'm so sorry! Let's get you into a different pot... " The moody cactus was giving her the silent treatment, something that usually happened every now and then. He probably wasn't going to speak to her for the rest of the night...

When she came back in, Ceres immediately searched for another pot, but alas, she had none. She was going to have to use a plastic cup until she went out a bought another one. " He's definitely upset. He's giving me silent treatment again... " After she had him situated into a cup, the Dryad exhaled and rubbed her temples. That was nerve wrecking. For a moment there, she thought someone had stolen him off of her windowsill. Even if he was annoying, she still cared about him. Kind of like an annoying brother in a way. She soon turned to the Drow and smiled awkwardly. " Hungry..? "
