Day:64 Theme: phoenix
One sharp cry cuts through the air as though it were lightning. The blur of red and gold shimmer soars closer before sitting upon the charred husk of a tree. Did it dwell here before they set fire to these woods? Its large eyes seem to hold my attention and as time goes by I realize I am walking closer. My hand reaches up to it, a timid nonverbal question to preen and caress this magnificent bird. It cries out again, tearing my attention away before tucking its wings in and seemingly melding into the still burning backdrop. Ash starts to fall from the branch... from the weight... from the fowl itself... and before my very eyes rhe once shimmering bird has turned to dust. "No. I'm sorry," I whisper to the grayed earth, to myself. I turn to leave, letting my heart drop as each feather had. Within just a few steps I hear a faint but familiar call. As i turn I see a small ruddy thing nestled beneath the tree in a pile of soot. Our eyes lock and I know it is the same magical beast. "You are too small to fly, please let me touch you so that I may bring you someplace safe and warm." The tiny chick stares for a moment before nodding. Scooping a handful of ash and bird into my pocket, I stroll back towards my cottage wondering what in the world this thing may be.

Day:65 Theme: Triceratops
Stomping chomping 3 horned tank Gentle herbivore Fearless dino defender built to hold the line and redefine the line between prey and predator. Without your strong willed protective ways The wooded wetlands would be a grave But now the small have a voice Your timid courage gathers more Fighting chance against the larger foes Only the Triceratops knows.

Day: 67 Theme: monkey
Out the door and up High into the tree I go Cant catch monkey
You lay the plate down A yolk shifts in the saucer My eyes cant leave it
Down the tree and over All will is gone as I laugh Monkey slaps the egg
Fun fact, my grandmother had a spider monkey. Whenever it got out, the only way to get it back was to lay an egg yolk on a plate and it was too fixated with slapping it to stay in a tree.

Day: 71 Theme: Panther
My eyes close as the darkness grows closer From the depths I see yours open The quiet independent sentinel Strength and stealth and mystery No one but her We breathe in unison and I wonder why it takes the darkness to see the strength inside.
