He hadn't exactly pulled away -- only stepped back enough that nothing was going to hit him, for a bit, while he tried to recover his breath and figure out how to get in there and take a stab at the thing without getting the s**t knocked out of him. Ever's attention skidded over the crowd, and settled on a figure as it fell from its perch and sent objects scattering.
An empty beer bottle slowly, ringing, rolled against the ground to land at his feet. Ever stooped to give it back, paused for a moment, and then turned to hurl it at a questing tentacle.

It took some time before Robert realized that there was a rather huge battle going on at the Lighthouse. It took even more time before he could get over there, making sure the baby was safe and cared for before he headed out to do it.
When he arrived, he immediately tripped on something. A cylinder explosive, it looked like - definitely not something he was going to mess with. He jogged over to those who looked like they'd been in the thick of the battle for some time, and therefore knew exactly what needed to be done.
"Harrison!" He called out, holding the cylinder out. "Need a hand?"

A thin, gangly figure appeared above Sherry. The crabs were batted off and then they were helping her up. 'Are you okay ma'am?" America asked Sherry, absolutely not dressed for this weather and absolutely not supposed to be out in it.

Not realizing Noah had arrived yet, as soon as Al got his senses, he ran over to help steal lawfully recover things that fell to the ground. He felt a little bad for the guy when all he found was a completely damaged cell phone. He decided to hang onto it for now because you never know. Maybe the rice trick might save it and he could be a hero. Or not and just look weird for having stolen a sopping wet phone.

"I am, thank you," Sherry said, eyeing the girl. America, wasn't it? Did...did Sherry really look that old to someone her age? Ma'am? Of course she could just be being polite but still.
Sherry wiped at the water on her face, useless as that was. "Are you okay? You should probably head back inside."

Hands on hips, America proudly announced, "YOU'RE WELCOME!"
Helping people up was okay, right? Nobody would lecture her about helping people up, America reasoned as she completely ignored Sherry's good advice and ran over to help Mr. The Awesome from the like, puddle he'd tripped and fell into or whatever. There were other people too and they were probably helping him out already, but that didn't stop her from giving him a big pat on the back and proclaiming, "There, I helped saved you. Now you owe me even more! Let's start with these." She took his bag of Doritos.
After a moment she truly noticed the size and might giant ******** squid monster attacking. "Well dang! But the centipede in the desert was way bigger."
Sherry smiled at America, and then watche in a little bit of horror as she just ran off. Fearless. Amazing.
That's when Sherry noticed she ran right over to Mark. So, being sensible, Sherry followed her.
It...looked like Mark had lost of a lot of his stuff, so Sherry bent to help him pick some up - the first thing she grabbed was some of that body spray he uses a bit too much. Perfect time to take a good look at it. Axe - Chocolate. When...had they even made that scent? How old was this can? Sherry tried out one spray just to see, but she slipped in the rain and sprayed a bit too much. Oh. Oh that was not the greatest. She hoped the rain would wash some away.
Funnily enough, some crabs that had followed her were now backing away.
Sherry made note even as she turned to Mark (and to help keep an eye on America).
"Yeah, what is that thing?" she asked Mark.
And yep. The crabs were definitely avoiding the area.

Rep was given a nod, and Peyton a look, because what a silly ******** question that was to ask. When wasn't some terrible s**t going down? He didn't feel like that question even deserved a response, but he gestured at the giant squid anyways.
"Oh, you know, just another ******** monday." Was it even Monday? He had no idea, but he said it anyways.
s**t hit the fan, as it always seemed to do, always somehow getting worse even when that seemed impossible, and Finn, once he had had his fill of watching the rampant chaos, decided to jump in and be helpful, trying to ward off as many of those swinging tentacles and crabs or whatever the hell he needed to defend against as he could.
HP: 49 Damage: na Defending: Peyton, Jordan, Bix Charge: 2/3
DEATH HUNTER: EVASIVE STANCE: Avoid taking auto damage every second turn you take. Ie turn 2, turn 4. SCAN: If you miss any dice mechanic, reroll again. Do not take auto damage for your rerolls. ARTIFACT MASTERY: All artifacts may be used a second time instead of once per battle. Do not take auto damage using artifacts.
Finn got a nod of thanks for his defense, and Jordan moved in to attack the creature's body again. The rain and the little things underfoot made the footing slippery, and he didn't feel like he'd done much damage, but at least it was something. How much more could this creature take? They were staring to worry.
Ember showed, bright eyed and bushy tailed-- and not in anything overly cute. There was work to be done. Probably.
