Chapter 9: Grave Expectations

The Matron seemed please that everyone was silent. Everyone seemed to accept that they were in over their head, but maybe it was for the best. It was clear that the Elaria wanted to be trained, wanted to be taken seriously, and wanted to rise to the challenge. Maybe this was their moment, and maybe it was time she finally gave them some room to grow.Or maybe she was just tired of them glaring so much.
It was easier to move downstream than up, so maybe it was time to let them lead a little bit.
"Together we can protect each other. Travel at least with another, and travel with blades. If you are too young to fight, you are too young to leave the roots of Elzira..."
Her gaze shifted to the mystic, surrounded by the eldest of blooms. A long pause occurred as she considered the options, before nodding as if determined.
"I listen, despite you thinking I don't. Nivalis, you want freedom and a role in this, you can have it. It's time for us to discuss an important reality...the reality that we do not know everything, nor do we have access to everything. It's time to consider our future here...and how it relates to Chibale."
Others were surprised, especially the Alkidike sisterhood. Why would the mother speak of Chibale? Why would they need to consider those who were weak, who didn't follow the truth or fight for the rightful state of their race?
The Matron seemed hesitant, before gesturing to the elders, "When we traveled to war, we did not bring the ancient tomes of our past. Those tomes hold the truth of the Dretch and are rightfully ours to view. The elders will discuss what needs to be done..."
The Matron smiled grimly toward Nivalis as she paused, "Once our decision has been made, we will discuss further. In the meantime, Nivalis, you are welcome to join us for further discussion. Everyone else...we will begin our festivities in the morn...for now...prepare and defend. We will not allow another sister to disappear from our lands."

||. Patrols on the border have increased and the Matron insists no one travel alone. It is likely she will reprimand any who ignore her request by adding someone to shadow them in the future.
||. The elders are currently debating traveling to the mainland to request the tomes from Chibale. No contact has been made at this time, and will not be made unless officially announced.
||. The current Alkidike elders are willing to share information. They are uncertain if it's fact, but most of their memories reflect the information in the Official NPC thread.
