(Bork 4, ajax )

It happen quicker then Ajax could image. In an instance, flesh and feather was in the maw and claws of the adolescent. Sharp claws enclosed tightly around the Bork, and if the taste of flesh was a cue his maw clinched tightly down. Eyes remained open and alert as his head shook the pray lifeless in a satisfactory quick snap. Ajax, let the lump of meat rest on the ground. Ears flicked about as his eyes glanced around to see the darting and scrambling of the Surviving Bork. Their squeals and squawks filled the air. Ajax's dark tail swished behind him and raised behind him proudly.

he had been successful. The thought to try for more, crossed the young cub's mind, however that was not the task at had. He had a feeling that his teacher would disapprove. No more, no less-just what the task required.

Picking up his meal, Ajax quickly turned around and started back to his little hovel.

GunSniper:

Kyle watched carefully. Ajax had made a clean kill on the first leap, and showed no signs of blood last. Kyle was ruthless, but he was not out for senseless murder. Kyle only watch the cub briefly for me to turn around and headed back to meet Ajax by his hovel.

Ajax made his paces as quick as possible, his head remained raised high to keep his meal from gathering too much debris. Not that it matter too much, but it was nice not to have too much junk in his meal. He had already perpared to have to remove the feathers or eat around them.

Large paws trotted happily and tail raised high. However, his ears remained alert as well as the rest of his senses. It hasn't happened to him, but he had been warned to be warry of others that might want to steal his food. Teeth barried down tightly on his meal. Ajax was determined that it wasn't going to happen. He would fight for what was his.

It wasn't long before the cub started down the same hot path that he had been lead down from the arena. Sore paws hissed as they rested on the heated ground. His brow tightened forward as he kept his thoughts from the pain, and focused on the task at hand. Others could handle the heat, and he was woven from fire-so he could as well.

Looking from the path, Ajax's dark eyes caught the sight of his den past the feathers and flesh of his harvest.

GunSniper:

Kyle was already waiting for Ajax in front of his den. He had been watching the cub carefully, no doubt his presence it already been felt as the cub approached. This had been the first hunt, or so Kyle was led to believe, and he already had shown remarkable and instinct. The kill was held high above the ground, the cub remained alert, and he wasted no time in getting back. Even despite the pain which was reflected in each muscle twitch and each blank and the Cubs eyes. despite the lack of emotion the approval was obvious in Kyle's goldeneyes. "Recover what strength you can, I will be back tomorrow."

whether or not Karl was going to remain and watch the Cubs sleep he left to the Cubs imagination. He too had his rest to gain, and if the cub to wander off, he would not be proud of the choice later on. But again, it was a choice for him to make. Kyle did not wait for a response. He turned around and we're going to walk back over the scorching lands leading up to the arena.

Ajax's eyes where quick to fall on Kyle's as he came in view of the cub. A breath heaved from the cub's nostrils, as he was determined to remove any pain that reflected in his gaze. No matter how many times it had happened before, paw heat training-it still hurt. Ajax almost wondered if there would be a time it wouldn't hurt.

Stopping in front of his teacher the cub's paws shifted on the heated ground a little. Lowering his head he presented his kill to his trainer. The harvest, rolled over in a limp thud it's lifeless eyes remained open with the frozen picture of surprise. Ajax remained standing and at attention as he waited for Kyle to speak, if he would at all.

As intersection came from Kyle, the cub's Dark ears turned forward.

"Yes, Tah."

Ajax waited till his teacher responded with the turn and show of his tail. Only after the leader left, Ajax tilted his head down and gathered up his meal. Approching his den, he peaked in his head and looked about it. Seeing it was clear and marked only with his scent he entered and turned around. His face and attention ahead of him, flopping down he released the lifeless meal and garthered it up with his paws. With a few choice tares and chops he began to eat.

It wouldn't be long after his meal, before he would do as instructed.

Rest and recover

GunSniper:

True to his word, Kyle returned the next day at the break of dawn. He had already accomplished his own hunting and was focused at the task at hand. There was more training to do, but the cub was the only one who will be training. The other soldiers were on break. They had to recover. Discipline was one thing, but a broken soldier was useless. Well, physically broken. They needed rest to make sure their minds were sharp and ready for the battle head of them. Kyle wanted thinkers who could follow orders. Something that might have been difficult to balance. Thinkers could always go rogue. It was fear of discipline that kept them inline. That was one thing that would never change, punishment was never brushed off, as was reward.

They had to be conditioned.

Kyle lifted his gaze to the cub's personal hovel to see if there was any activity. He had yet to learn the cub's sleeping habits...

Kyle had to learn this soldiers habits and figure out what had to be changed and what had to be strengthened. The little one already had a great show of ambition.

Ajax's dark ears shifted and tilted alive as he heard his teacher's paw steps. His senses had been perfectly alert as he had been awake and expecting his teacher's approach. Though just as told, he rested and remained still. Not a fur strand or whisker shifted, his dark pelt faded in the shadow of the hovel. Making it hard to determined fur from darkness...

Only the whites of his eyes gave away his location, something he had purposely done and did not care to hide with a hidden sight. Looking to his teacher, the cub released a soft breath though his nostrils that hovered above the ground. The breath caused his dark whiskers to flare and grasp at the air gently, his maw and chin remained unmoved from the ground and from the cloak of hovel's shadow.

Kyle took a moment to assess his new apprentice. It was a wonder how the cub was able to remain still even now. He didn't seem to be exhausted, though it was obvious he had pushed himself the day prior. This was far more appealing than a sudden sit to salute or something along the lines. Silence. That was admirable. Kyle towered above the young cub, his eyes having to look down his nose to get a clear view.

"You have been taught well." Kyle praised in such a monotone voice that it seemed hollow. It was rare he sounded excited about anything, but he was not one to give out hollow scolds or praises. "Follow me."

Kyle turned about and begun to walk back toward the arena. His ears angled backward while he listened for the cub's movements.

The cub had been exhausted, however his younger years of training with Crucible and his family had tempered his young body. He knew it could keep going and hoped to only strengthen his endurance. The precious rest that had been given to was needed and gratefully taken. He wouldn't let such a gift be wasted, specifically if it was what he was told to do the evening previously.

His scolded paws started to scabe over, and made it well and easier to walk over the heated ground. Soon they would heal and become calloused. Which, was the goal.

"Thank you, Tah." Was all that was said in response an acknowledgement that the comment was heard. Though, the praise was taken to heart. His father had told Kyle, he had been previously trained...However the cub knew that physical evidence was more important to the Tah. Which the cub had no problem with, it was easier then words. Words his father was more skilled with then he...

As instructed, the Cub rose to his paws, dark tail was still behind him as he hopped to catch up behind his teacher. His large paws were heavy and worn, his brow forward as he mentally addressed the pain and thought better to just not think about it. He knew why his body was sore, and it had done it's job in letting him know what hurt-and he knew why, so it was settled. No more time would be wasted on it.

Ears angled forward as tail shifted behind him to help with his balance as he awkwardly lumbered on and in Kyle's paw steps.

GunSniper:

Kyle lead the cub silently through the scorched lands toward the silent arena. It was as spacious and void of life since the last time they were there. The shadows of stones cast into the arena from the rising sun grabbed at the other end of the circular area. Only a crescent of light begun to peek out from the western side. On the far end cast in the shadow as a lifeless mass of something large. A half eaten carcass of a harmadillow. Most of the neck had been pulled out along with the heart and lungs. A cloud of flies had already moved in, but not enough to suggest the corpse had been there long. From the other entrance to the arena a red line of blood trailed up to the carcass like an inviting rug to a delightful feast.
Kyle stopped as his paws reached the center of the arena. He turned his head to eye the cub from a side glance.

"Have your fill." He ordered.

Another lesson? Of course. It was a meal the cub did not have to hunt. But what would the cub do with free reign over a feast? There was still training ahead, but Kyle did not mention it.

Ajax followed after his master, his large paws hissed accordingly on the scorched land as he trotted after Kyle. Reaching the arena the dark cub's eyes looked around the silent platform. Once again it was only them, the trainie didn't sense, smell or hear anyb'alam else. Ebony ears pinned back slightly as a curious thought came across his mind, before. Yesterday, he said he had others to train, but where were they? Resting? Out on a day off? Training elsewhere?

Well, what ever the case it didn't matter-what did was the present moment and what he was told to do. Before Kyle's orders left his maw, the stench filled his maw....

Ears popped forward at Kyle's words.

breakfest...

The cub's maw started to salavate...he had never had the pleasure of eating so soon after his last meal. With out hesitation, the cub started forward as told. His large paws started in his normal trot towards the carcass, his senses alert he did not let them drop-though he didn't hesitate what he was told to do. Claws came out, and maws parted as he approached his body lowered to the ground almost defensively if he needed to leap at a second notice. His past reminded him well, to not let his guard down. Espically when approaching an open meal. His teacher was gone from the feast, anything could be behind the husk...even if visibly safe-it was still good to show his new teacher his mindful approach.

GunSniper:

Kyle watched the cub carefully. He seemed surprised that he was being gifted something, and rightfully on edge while he was having the meal. The thought had crossed his mind to see how prepared he was, but that was a lesson for another day. There was nothing behind the husk. Kyle would wait patiently for the cub to finish his meal, as much as he wanted to eat.

Being in a unfamiliar area and training, there was no time for ease. Taking in a breath of the air around him though his nostrils, he didn't smell anyone else, his dark eyes didn't see anyone. Prowling around the meal, his eyes relaxed a little as he took in the massive nature of the creature. Too think, if had run into one of this monsters and not the little meals he had seen yesterday.

Taking a glance toward Kyle, Ajax lowered his head to his meal and started to take his fill. His fur puff slightly as his stance remained wide and ready. His tail raised as his eyes remained alert even if they closed every now and then out of the pleasure of taste for his meal.

Ajax took what he wanted from the meal, not enough to fill completely-but enough to be satisfied. A little bit of hunger was always good to have. After he finished, his hunches lowered to the ground and he started at cleaning his paws and maw.

GunSniper:

"Remove that from the arena." Came the order after the cub had managed a few licks.

There was only two ways the carcass could be removed and neither of which were close to the hulking mass of animal. Ajax had already gained points for not stuffing his gourd, but this was only the start of his training. Most of the harmadillo was intact and it had only just started to decay. The kill had been made much earlier that morning. Only enough of the tough armor had been removed from the head and neck to make it easy to get at the tender flesh of the animal. Kyle stood firm on all fours with head held high while he continued to observe. The more he knew about the cub's decisions the better. His tail flicked back and forth occasionally while he made notes of every little action. It was far easier one on one with the cub. His other troops he had to observe the entire regiment at once. Not a hard feat, but little movements and twitches sometimes went unnoticed.
