"Okay, daddy," Alice said obediently, while holding reflection-Robert's hand. She tilted her head to one side. "Are you mad at me? Is that why I'm in here?"
"Shh, child," reflection-Mimsy soothed, holding Alice's other hand, "Alice is still very young, and wild, but you should be so very, very proud of her. We-"
And then suddenly the reflections stopped, and froze, and all of them did not speak or move or talk at all despite any gesturing.
Instead, overlaid on top of all the reflections was someone- something else. A figure-less black shape in a plaid red dress, with no eyes, no face, just an expressionless mouth.
"No Mimsy, no Robert," said this new arrival in the flattest, most robotic of tones. "You can not go there. Access is forbidden."

It had her, it wasn't letting go. She wondered for a moment if the chill was from the mirror or her own panic at the matter. She almost tried to scream - but the sound was stuck. Everyone else had their own troubles, they would not hear. They could not help even if they did. The mirror had her, and it swallowed her whole.
The spot where Adelaide had been was quiet, empty. She was gone.
And then she wasn't. Adelaide stepped out of the mirror whole and non-the-worse for wear. She looked down at herself, then around at the others. "Interesting."
It seemed she was herself. The reflection that looked back at her nodded when she did.

The call however, did not go through. It could not go through.
"Don't be scared," whispered the voice, and now it was closer to Terr and seemed to be coming from just the base of those stairs. He could even hear each individual stair segment crack as if under the pressure of invisible feet. "I'm with you. I will protect you, I will always protect you, I promise."

"You did this," his reflection yelled now to him, to this lesser version of him, "you could have been so much more and this is what you are now this is it, this is the you who accomplished nothing and did so little."
The accusation was overwhelming now, just noise against noise against noise of his pounding heart and churning stomach and vision that was beginning to blur as everything begin to fade into a tiny pinprick of space.
It was dark.
He couldn't hear. He couldn't see. He could barely think.
He was alone.
Him and an unusual presence. It felt like a part of him first, and then it didn't, and then it distinctly felt like it didn't know it wasn't a part of him. The presence spoke first in this absolute space, and it did not speak with words but feelings.
Who are you?

"Dorothy!"
Mimsy put her hands on her hips, as if she were scolding a child. A child which was not Alice, because Alice was very obviously, unquestionably perfect. Robert was left to answer the question on his own, despite her certainty that his anger had not displaced one of their children.
"Do not be so rude! Everyone is allowed to come home, because that is what a home is! Could you return to where you came from--your home, perhaps--and let Alice come back now, please? I would like Alice instead! Please do not behave in a way that will cause my exit survey to mark your behavior as a one. Thank you!"
"Mad? NO! Of course not! I don't know why you're in there, but it don't matter, 'cause we'll find a way-"
He could tell the reflections had gone from moving, living things to what amounted to a picture in a frame. He stopped talking when they stopped moving, and his hands balled up into fists.
They shook with slowly boiling rage.
"Don't." He growled at the voice. "Do not tell me I can't see my own damn daughter. Just. Don't."

"Good, very good," the reflection cooed, and then hands reached out to receive her, protruding from the surfaces of the mirrors, and Elaia felt herself drawn in without understanding why or how she was moving forward. The mirror absorbed her entirely and then she was at the other end and there was no reflection but just her as she sank deeper and deeper.
Memories began to play slowly, and they were all filled with a warm sensation, a soft, happy sensation. Love.
It deepened, more memories now, more warmth that kindled to a deep vibrancy, of familial love, and even sensual love, or every single spectrum of love possible.
It deepened, further and the warmed burned, it seared, it was beginning to hurt now as the love turned into a deep truth and ugliness, as it tore and broke her heart, but it was still love.
It deepened further, and became agonizing, melded into anger and loathing, melded into red, deep dark, crimson, and then the purest love of all, revenge.
She was love.
And she loved all.
When she looked around, the world of reflections that she had been absorbed into looked identical to the one she had left but that was fine. She would love everyone equally.

"W-what do you m-mean. I d-don't u-understand!" He couldn't speak properly now. The words pounded against his skull, encompassing everything. Darkjay whimpered, feeling sick to his stomach as everything blurred out of focus, voices fading into the background, into nothing.
There was nothing. No light to see, nothing to hear. He shouted into the void, calling for help. Someone please come and save him, he was so lonely, so afraid...
Something did come. Or was it there this whole time? It was a presence, indescribable, perhaps it had been him or it hadn't. He couldn't tell.
A feeling was spoken. A strange concept. It didn't matter, as Darkjay responded with many feelings. Hopelessness, despair, grief, panic, hurt, pain.
I want to get out. I don't want to be here! Everything hurts. Please help me

Chao decided to talk a walk and see how the other clans where doing with gathering fear. When she entered the Death common room she was shocked to find mirrors laying around. Curiously they were all different shapes and colors. None of the mirrors seemed to look like another.
It was particular, more so perhaps than them laying around the common room. But perhaps it was just the way death likes their mirrors unique. Unsurprisingly there seemed to be a large number of horsemen gathered around the mirrors. It was a strange thing to see all of them, many of them appeared to be touching the mirrors.
Chao wondered if touching the mirrors did anything when they were touched or if everyone was just trying to figure out where they came from. She studied the mirrors for a while before choosing one.
It was a strange one, instead of being straight it seemed to curve in two different places, the middle of the mirror seemed normal enough but the half straight half rounded sides confused her. She stared at the squiggly mirror with her head tilted. She was slightly unsettled by the design, which might be why it intrigued her.
Curiosity got the best of Chao and she moved even closer to her chosen mirror before putting her hand out and touching the surface of the mirror. Hmm it seemed normal to her. “Do you do anything strange little mirror?” She asked, mostly thinking out loud, it was a mirror after all it wasn’t like it could talk to her or anything

Crane was there, of course, simply sitting. Rather than the flowing blue robes that he'd been wearing in the Conquest rooms, he was back to his usual attire of a pristine, expensively tailored suit, looking as calm and as collected as he usually did.
Adelaide had stepped out of a mirror near to him. Crane's lips were in a faint smile.
"Everything about this is interesting, my dear."

Rep came back to the Death floor mostly out of a lingering curiosity about what Circe had been talking to that other guy about, it was one of his favourite floors thanks to the servers which soothed him and relaxed him with their breezy cooling. They were an escape from the war floor and welcome one at that.
He didn't expect a whole bunch of people to be hanging around there, people from every single ******** clan he could think of, even some of whom he recognised. He couldn't tell what they were looking at but curiosity meant that he had to find out, creeping closer and closer to the gathered crowd, trying carefully to see around them.
"What the ******** is going on?" Rep said, finally able to contain his interest no longer, pushing through to have a look at whatever treasure or tragedy had been found, hoping to get a slice of it.
When he saw it was mirrors, he recoiled back. He didn't want to look at himself frankly, he didn't want to ******** see his stupid scars and awkward ******** face. He hated mirrors, he hated what they had to say about him just by existing, he hated that he had to look in them and think about the s**t that had made him the way he was.
And yet curiosity this time was so strong. People were lingering here for a reason, and that reason was probably ******** sinister, people always had to TOUCH s**t THEY SHOULDN'T GODDAMN BE TOUCHING.
"What the ******** is this, a ******** conquest vanity party? Are you guys all right?"
Terr took a step back from the stairs, then another, trying to find a viable escape from the corner of his eye. He spotted the familiar figure of Elaia and she seemed to have escaped her mirror's influence.
"Elaia. Elaia, may I please have your assistance?" the monotone had the tiniest hint of desperation. The small Death Guardian should recognize this as Terr's equivalent for screaming at the top of his lungs.

It was as if, at first, a pool of cold wave had broken around her. There was no sensation of movement even as she was pulled into the depths of the mirror. Elaia couldn't say she was worried or scared about what was going on, but she felt relief that her answer had been good enough. It had been accepted. It made her happy.
As she was with the warm feeling within her chest that swelled and embraced her. Her eyes fluttered closed as the memories fluttered about like a slide show, displaying eons of years that had molded her and carved her heart as it was today. The love she felt, all the different love she felt; from her parents, her training sessions, kills and battles, Terr and even some fleeting romances that were never meant to be. It overtook every thought and ever emotion within her, becoming the main thing. The only thing even with the heartache that began to burn. It was painful but in the end, it too was love.
Everything was love and she needed to embrace it all. And everyone.
Her eyes snapped open at the sound her own name and for a brief second she found herself disoriented. There was a haze to her vision and everything seemed a bit off. But at the same time, right. She turned towards the jeweler, her smile already plastered with such kindness in her eyes. "Terr," she whispered a little unlike her. She took a step and then launched herself towards him, engulfing him in a deep embrace with her cheek pressed against his chest. "What's wrong? How can I make it better?"
Terr was grateful for the anchoring presence of his long time friend. Anyone would have been enough to steady him but a trusted friend was what truly grounded him. He did not return the embrace, there were too many present although they seemed to be absorbed in their own mirror-issues, but he did place his hand atop her head. It was the closest to a hug as he would make while in front of so many others.
"You are here. It is already better. But I fear this mirror," and the word was spoken with an intense distrust, "Wishes ill of me. It or something that resides within is calling to me to descend these steps." He gestured at the passageway, hoping that Elaia's presence would seal the entrance.

"It most certainly is," Adelaide said with a smile. A sweet smile. She eyed Crane, her gaze darting down to his shoes then back up to his face. "What do you see in the mirrors, Crane?"
Would he also see nothing?

Loki was trying to listen. She really was. But at times the words seemed to mix and fade and be replaced with another, many others, all calling for Loki to come back. In those hazy moments, the High Priestess's grip on her arm was the only thing preventing her from running back to join the others.
Somehow, it was the flower that seemed to bring her back to reality just enough that she could formulate some kind of response. Loki really didn't know much, but even she could read between the lines and understand something was very wrong here if the High Priestess herself had no power against it. She had never been one to openly question the guidance of the High Priestess - but Loki was an interrogator as much as she was a priestess. And it was difficult to let go of those old habits.
"I'm sorry, High Priestess. You're speaking in riddles again. We are not in Trance, but we are not in the Dusk? I'm trying to understand, but -" The voices had grown quieter, but still ever-present. It was a struggle to maintain her thought process. She looked over her shoulder once more at the now much farther away horsemen gathered around the mirrors. "I must have forgotten. No one I've talked to remembers what happened yesterday either. Did - did what happened to the crystal weaken you? I want to help."
She was very emphatic about helping, even as she was the one being rescued.
