Oh, how her wings had begun to ache. The gold knew, just knew, it was time. Time to make her choice. They'd all come up, up for her, swirling and ducking and diving, but she knew. She knew...that was the one for her. She let slip a warbling, gem-like cry and twisted through the air towards him, claws and neck reaching out...only for at last moment another male to intercede. It had not been intentional, not an plan to usurp her choice, simply a wind-swung turn sending him careening between the gold and her choice. Snapped back out of the moment, she screeched, a flicker of red lacing through her eyes as she wheeled away.

Fine. Then she would drive them into the ground, drive them from the sky. She lashed out, cracking her tail like a whip, and raced away towards the weyr. Her wings might ache, but theirs would burn if they wanted her.

Down below, Lestenna bit back a snarl of her own. Her hands had gone near white gripping the arms of her chair, and she chided the gold in the skies above. Much longer and this flight would have a crash ending, and that was the last thing they needed, all of them. Choose, she urged Uridith. Now.

Soon, the gold thundered back. Soon we will have what's ours.



The final round boys. Uridith has turned towards the weyr and is just forcing herself onwards, meaning to punish the males a little more before she actually gets her choice.

Gareth knew he hadn't done well during this flight, there were so many times he could have excelled and done better then he had. It wasn't over yet, there was still a chance, but he wasn't holding out for hope. Instead he focused on trying to keep his stamina up, his body from aching like it did.

When Uridith suddenly dove down towards the ground and flying back to the weyr, Gareth followed behind her and the others, doing his best to keep up, but his wings were beginning to ache and burn.

His wings burned but he kept pushing himself, perhaps a little too much so. He watched the drama take place below him and wondered if he should make a grab but before he could Uridith took off back towards the weyr. Taka faltered and lost a lot of ground.

This was it, the time of truth. Twisting and wheeling, Kraketh changed his trajectory and beat his wings. He let out another bugel, placing all his lung power into it that he could, his vocal and audible way of showing his worthiness. Moonlight glimmered on the hide of the gold they all chased, and possibly even several of their own, but it was only Uridith he paid mind to. And, perhaps, out of the corner of his eye, the flash of blue. Or was he seeing things? He didn't pay it any mind.

If he were a dragon, he'd be humming. Jacomus had started to fidget, compelled by that distinct lust brought on by dragons Rising. He rubbed his face with one hand, glancing at the other riders gathered. There was, if one looked hard enough, a tinge, too, of worry that this would end, and he'd find himself at the end of a sword and his dragon going between. Stars above, he hoped this ended well for himself.

NPCs - R'yer and Bronze Korvath

He could see her up ahead, she was examining her persuers and he knew, just knew that she was picking her mate. Straining he tried to fly harder yet make it look like he still had energy left, but then she screamed and shot away and he felt his determination faulter. But NO! He would not give up! Stealing himself against the bone-deep throb, he pushed oneards, forcing his wings to keep beating, to chase her down.

As they hung there in the air, all eyes glued on the queen, it looked as if she was about to make her choice, suddenly flying straight for one of the males. As another got in the way, unexpectedly, and Uridrith screeched, Grenth's wingbeats faltered slightly. But it seemed the queen wasn't choosing just yet. Instead, she sped toward the ground. With a bugle of his own, Grenth turned to follow; still trying his best to win her attentions.

Uridith felt her muscles straining, wing sails threatening to snap and tear. She'd...she'd been aloft almost too long. A sharp blast from her rider's mind made her snap and hiss, but she knew it was time. She'd last no longer on her own. The gold turned her purpled eyes to those males that had kept up, noting which seemed they'd barely make it home alone, which were still fixated on her, which she knew would be right...

You've all done so well. My strong, sparkling males. But there is only one of me...one queen to choose a king, one empress to find her emperor of the stars... Her head seemed to droop, genuinely saddened that she would disappoint most of them. It had to be done though. ...Takarath. Her voice called out, though just for the bronze as she shifted through the cool night air towards him. My wings grow so heavy, splendid Takarath. Come, then, and be my chariot to carry me home to High Reaches, where our clutch will grow as swift and strong as you.


Far below, Lestenna stood as the gold twined herself with the bronze she'd chosen. Her eyes opened, and fixed on the male's counterpart among the waiting throng. He'd do, yes. Though she showed no signs of the flight affecting her, she was quick enough to take V'kenti by the wrist, and pull him towards the door opposite the one he'd entered through.

"The rest of you...out, then," She paused to call back to the rest before she pulled the victor through, and shut and barred the door behind.
