Merlin. He thought, it had to be him, of all the legacies he was rumoured to be the most bitter and the staff had been contained right up until it wasn't.

He knew he'd do what he could to protect the island and other hunters, and as t he world faded he drifted distantly through the dreamworld, ending up in the room, the place he'd found himself so many times, only this time he was alone.

Alone

"Carl?" he called out. "Cael?"

He couldn't afford to lose him.

Silence. Just the charred remains of where the weapon had pierced through Rep into the room and the strange echoing reminder of the unsettling pain. It felt oddly cold and empty: perhaps Rep had gotten too used to seeing visitors, too used to fighting off visitors that without them it felt just a little less.

Five seconds later there was a soft knock on the door, and waiting for him at the other side was Carl and her, not Alice or any other possibilities, but most definitely the only her that mattered to Carl, and perhaps a little bit, even to Rep.

This time Rep didn't need to be pushed to open the door, if he had anything to fear he'd cope with it, he'd have earned it.

"There you are." he said to Carl, before looking to his companion and nodding in greeting. He didn't feel entitled to ask her any questions that she herself didn't volunteer the answers to. For Rep, it was as polite as he got.

Still his relief at seeing her was almost palpable.

Carl walked in first, holding her hand to let her in, as if escorting a delicate princess, and as she stepped in a table materialized, and then three chairs, all made of white marble. She took a seat first, and then looked around, always smiling.

"Yes," she began, before Rep got any actual answers, "even weapons like us can have dreams."

"I'd hardly qualify this as a dream." said Carl, and then it wasn't Carl but the Death lead as he should have been, occupying the second seat.

"Memories create dreams," she explained, as if this was all somehow supposed to make sense. "We share memories, and from them, have the chance to create dreams." Both of them turned to look at Rep, as if he were somehow the child now. "Would you like to know how this dream ends?"

There was a visceral sort of relief as Carl became the way he should have been, even in a dream the sight presenting a hope to Rep he thought was lost. Circe was alive, the old Cael was alive, somewhere.

The talk of memories made him raise a brow at Circe. "Is that why you...?" but he cut himself off, why she took memories was her own business.

Rep didn't really want to know how the dream ended because he felt like it was probably going to be horrible, but he nodded anyway, because obedience came easily to him when he was around people he considered superior.

"Yes." he said. "I do"

It was quite an entertaining contrast, her, always smiling and the other perpetually not.

"It is a tragic dream," she begins, "and in it many, many people die. They do not fear death however, the passing is peaceful. In the end however, even this revenge is not enough. Ancients, legacies, those are all relics, those are all dreams that should never have overlapped. All this now belongs to your kind, it belongs to those who live as we are now."

The other didn't say anything, eyes focused on Rep with his usual sharpness.

"Do you understand now?" She too focused only on Rep and the overlap for a second was almost unnerving. "Do you understand what you need to do?"

He wished he understood. The fact that he didn't made him feel exactly as worthless as Caelius had always said, he didn't know if she meant that they would need to kill those things or that somehow they needed to split the legacies up and inherit them. It could have meant anything and he simply wasn't intelligent to note the implications.

He looked at the ground, withering under the twin gazes. "No." he said. "There are too many paths."

"There are just enough paths," she adjusted, and there was another knock on the door - this time it was Alice - and the weapon stood up nodded to the other. "When the time comes, do as you need to do. There is still a favour owed, after all. The Grail is the first sign that will trace us to you."

The Death lead stood up next, and also headed towards the doorway. At it, he paused, and turned to stare very carefully at Rep. "Try not to ******** get me killed." Good to see he could still make demands while in a very disadvantageous situation.

All three of them were at the doorway, and the Death lead took his weapon's hand again: neither of them looked back as they simply faded out of existence together.

"It will be okay," whispered the last voice outside, the little puppet-doll that called herself Alice, "I'll help you, just a little bit."

Before Rep could ask what any of that was he snapped awake, the dream, if it had been one, still fresh on his mind.

"I'll do what I can." he said to her and "I'm trying Sir." to him. He'd have saluted if he knew how, instead he just watched, feeling helpless and lost but at the very least more hopeful that somehow something could be done, even if it involved relying on whatever the puppet helper could offer.

He woke and started, once again his first thought Carl and his well-being, looking for him first before anything else.

Carl was still sleeping, breathing evenly - somehow he had found his way back to the couch.

However it seemed like the baby carrots had spilled over on the table in a messy orange formation. If Rep went over to examine them, he would see that they created a series of numbers: 3 - 17 - 57 - 4. Apparently Harrison's purchase was good for something after all.

Rep exhaled in relief, and in a thought, took a photo of the numbers, because he knew he'd not remember them otherwise. He wasn't about to question the wisdom of dreams given what he'd experienced regarding them to date.

He sat down next to the couch on the floor, oddly exhausted by the experience and as close as he could get without touching or disturbing Carl.

There was a slight slam on the door as someone left, the couch empty again; it was one of those moments where it might have been better if Rep just got a cat.

Rep sighed heavily, and gathering himself up, headed out again.

It was going to be a longass ******** day.
