They walked a little longer, with the lady still quite out of range; she was on her cellphone now talking to someone but at least she wasn't following them, busy now walking the other direction while staring into the horizon.
Carl kept on glancing looks at her as they continued to walk until they were well out of sight. He then turned his gaze curiously to the well packaged box. "What's in the box?"
Hilariously, he didn't know he had said quite a popular, if not possibly appropriate meme.

Text from Shu There was a beautiful blonde lady tried to invite me and Carl for afternoon tea.....I dunno, she feels suspicious to me. ( Enter brief descriptions of said woman here since I'm not good at that). She also seems to know Mark. She looked back, made sure the woman didn't follow them before passing the box to Carl as she wasn't excel in single-hand typing. "I dunno, it smells great." Thinking Mark didn't deserve a gift for his irresponsible behaviour, she had thrown her manner behind her mind. "Here says Donuts, let's open it?"

Despite the rather terrible day and not-so-good time with Shu, he was more than happy to oblige, curiously unfolding the lid of the box. Indeed, there were six beautiful, hand-crafted donuts, with a little card that explained each flavour such as "bacon rum" or "french vanilla apple pie". They all sounded very nice and very expensive.
Carl flipped over the card. "What's the 'Sorry' on the back for?"

Not-so-good time he thought, gladly Shu didn't know that or she'd bursted into tears. Even though she seldom cry until broken down under stress. Anyway, they were indeed marvelous donuts inside the box. Her eyes filled with sparkles and pinned on the desserts. Carl's question piqued her interest and Shu temporarily avert from the delicacies. "I have no idea, probably she's rejecting Mark's invitation for a sexy threesome?" She really picked things up quickly, good or bad. "Well," She drawled, "I don't think Uncle Mark deserve all of these, so -" The petite Death hunter picked up what looked like a raspberry flavour and took a small bite.

The donut was exotic was the best description, a burst of flavour that made anything obtained on island quite literal trash.
"Why is Mark- nevermind." He suddenly said, which was probably for the better all things considered. "Do the donuts taste good?"
They continued to walk pretty steadily back to the main Deus hub, making good progress, and Carl didn't stop until he was at the base of one of the gate-wall exits. "Are we giving the rest to Mark?" He was genuinely curious as well as he had no idea why someone would come all the way to meet up with them just to hand over a dessert that they could have given directly. Maybe it was a bad breakup and this was a consolation prize.

She chewed the whole thing in detail to confirm it wasn't poisoned or contain any weird stuff. "Yup! Mine tastes wondeful and divine, you can pick one too, I think Uncle Mark won't mind." She held the box to Carl, encouraged him to take one. The donut had save her day back and their journey back was smooth and uneventful. "Um, I think leaving him one or two will be fine. After all, they contained the message from that madam. Maybe it'll give him an introspection!" The petite Death was tht optimistic and that was her biggest merit. In other words, she meant they could take more from the box before it arrived at Mark's office. "And the fact he pushed his work to us. We deserve something good." She winked at the boy with a sweet but mischievous grin.

Carl tilted his head to one side in question, mostly because he had no clue what the word 'introspection' meant. "No thanks, I don't like sweets." He didn't not agree with Shu though; Mark had been, well, negligent was a good word.
"Maybe we should just give him one though," he said a little nervously, "I don't want anyone to get upset."

She tilted her head in response, like infection by his action. "Okay. I can take one more, and there're still three to be gone." Carl was such a nice kid. She stared at the expensive donuts and mused. "How about we give Rep, His husband-fiance and Jordan sensei those three? Then we will have one for Uncle Mark!" She made a proposal and asked for the boy's opinion.

"Sure, but who's Jordan?" He had picked up his pace again, and they were now nearing the main headquarters, and he pulled out a cellphone he apparently had just been keeping the entire time and looked down at it. "Maybe we should check on Mark first, he hasn't texted me at all this hour, maybe he's dead."
This is what happens when people skip an entire generation of instant messaging.

Text from Shu Hi Rep, can you pick three out? They're for you, your husband-fiance (sorry idk your marriage status) and Jordan sensei biggrin Attached with the message was a picture of a box of five expensive-looking donuts, the card had been removed for the purpose. "Jordan sensei is a kind and nice Sun full hunter who taught me how to use my weapon, he has given me many useful advice. He's great!" She sent the text and replied. "Sure." Shu casually said. "I don't think he's dead though, his survival instinct's like his minions and always the first to flee and hide at safe locations." She paused to think. "Um, probably busy for tagging rp, recruiting new Padawan, working on a new lightsaber or just slacking."

And now Carl was imagining literal tagging, like tagging rescued wild animals to release back in the ocean. He didn't now Mark was an rescue animal enthusiast though - "What's a padawan?" It sounded like a dessert.
He spent quite a while thinking about Mark's new hobby and perhaps underestimating the guy (maybe that explained the smell) until they reached the Death division office -
- And he stopped at the doorway.
The entire office had been upturned, desk emptied with the exception of a few papers. In the distance, if he was paying attention, there was also a fire happening in a wing close to the Life labs, and unknown to them, a third one in the Lighthouse. Mark lay on the ground, in a pool of blood, unconscious.
Carl just froze up and then turned to Shu. "Is this normal?"

Rep had made his way to the cove, only to receive another concerning text along the way. He had no idea what Shu and Carl were up to but none of it sounded very good for the boy's prolonged health.
Quote: I'm serious, don't take sweets from strangers! Quote: No one on this island has any common sense. After the picture of the donuts was received he respondedQuote: SEE MY PREVIOUS TEXTS. Keep those donuts as evidence. It might have seemed paranoid, but with everything going on on the island he was constantly reminded of arriving to Gale at afternoon tea with the enemy and had turned his already significant paranoia dial up much much higher.

Shu didn't explain what a Padawan to Carl but asked if he had watched Star Wars before. The conversation was interrupted by the need to check Rep's texts. Text from Shu No tea happened, I rejected that. Okay, I will give the rest all to Mark. On the way to the office rn. As Rep sent her a few texts at once, she sensed the panic tone in the hunter. "Rep says we need to use those donuts as evidence." She trotted to catch up Carl in the front but a shocking scene awaited her. "Oh no!" She exclaimed nervously. The office looked like a gang of robbers broke in and made a mess, a hint of finding something eagerly. She glanced from left to right and finally stared at the Death Assistant in a pool of blood. She was stiffed for a few seconds before Carl snapped her back into reality. "NO. IT'S NOT. WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" She ran towards Mark, the blood slowly dyed her nice clothes. The Spectre watch that remained idle finally came to its usage, she scanned Mark for any injuries while gently shaking his body. "Uncle Mark, wake up, wake up!" There was a hesitation and a fear brushed across her face before she checked his pulse. What Mimi taught her became practical under such moment. The petite Death didn't stop calling with her shaky voice, "Don't sleep, we need you!" She took a chance to beckon Carl. "Stay near me until Rep comes, okay? I'll protect you in case we encounter foes."

Carl actually looked surprisingly relieved, probably because this was the first time any incident had not involved his near death. Sure, it was a shame about Mark, but for some reason he had a feeling that Mark was going to be oka-
- At that moment the Death assistant coughed, and then coughed more dramatically, and then rolled over. There was blood caked around his head, though it was thankfully drying. He stared at Shu, blinked several times, and then began to teeter heavily on his left side. "'Ey, you brought twins?" This was heavily slurred, and it looked like he was about to fall over any second again. "That's nice."
And then he did, collapsing on the ground unconscious yet again face down.
While this was happening, Shu's new buddy was curiously poking around the desk, reclosing and opening all the drawers. "All the highlighters are gone," he exclaimed a little sadly, as if this was a bigger problem than Mark possibly being dead (again). He paused. "What's that beeping noise?" Baneful If Rep wants to hop in anytime!

Rep had gone all over looking for Carl and Shu, finally getting tipped off that someone had seen them going to Mark's office.
He showed up not to long after.
"Are you guys all right?" he said, looking concerned, noticing Mark. "Mark?"
