((Sorry on my end as well, I've been busy. I was also waiting on Chiharu but it slipped my mind that I posted for her this initiative round and she was likely waiting on me >_> ))

Round 6

27 - Chiharu, Defense Stance, Guarding Ayame
26 - Tsuyoshi, Attack Stance, Reversal of Fortunes until Round 7
19 - Ayame, Full Attack Stance, Guarded by Chiharu
17 - Bandit, Attack Stance, 23 damage, Down
9 - Rakurai, On Edge

--------------------

The bandit would continue to struggle, though it seems injury and bloodloss quickly got the better of him, and the fight quickly left him. He seemed to retain consciousness, but no longer made any aggressive moves. Tsuyoshi, you think that he's been incapacitated enough, though he may have enough left in him for one more lunge ((read: might have void left to spend)).

Otherwise, I'm calling combat now and you all can act freely.

Ayame, you tend to Rakurai. Despite the impact of the arrow appearing to be a fairly serious injury, you're able to remove it with little difficulty and tend to the wound with practiced expertise. You're confident that it's not as bad as it looked at first glance, and there is little to worry about.

Rakurai healed for 16, healing him back to full.

Chiharu watches as Tsuyoshi handles the bandit with great skill. After a moment she glances around looking for any other source of danger, hoping the party is now safe.

She quietly waits, believing the other samurai would like to ask questions to the bandit:

—Should we aid him to heal so he can tell why was this?

The magistrate kept his weapon in place against the bandit, though he relaxed and stopped holding it against him so firmly, looking back to the Imperial as she spoke, and nodding gravely. Even he had to admit sadly, the man seemed less like a regular brigand or horse thief than like he was after Miya-sama herself. It was outrageous, that such a thing should happen on Crane lands.

Unless, perhaps, it was a ploy by the Scorpion, or some such slander against his clan.

"You have heard her- by imperial order, tell us why you would direct violence against Miya-sama. Cast your blade aside and answer, and I may take the sasumata away."

Not that he could be let go- he'd tried to harm an Imperial on Crane lands. The punishment for that was clear, but if he was cooperative it could go much less painfully for him, and save them binding the man and taking him somewhere he could locate eta to extract the information she desired.

After a bit of silence passes and the man makes no effort to respond, those around him realize he is a bit too injured to be interrogated.

Quote:
Down - A character may only potentially take Free Actions... and must spend a Void Point in order to be able to do so.

Whether he's unwilling or unable to answer is unclear, but for the time being, you get none.

EDIT: However, if he receives healing (magical or mundane) during this scene, I will carry over the result of the roll to that point and resolve it.

Chiharu waits for a moment, she glances between the imperial and the injured man. The peaceful Asahina seem to quickly forgive and forget that such a man was a foe moments ago.

She aproaches the injured man just enough to impose hands as she prays to the water kami:

—Please, allow the this water kami to cleanse not only you body but your soul also. Walk the path designated to the mortals by the Celestial Order so you may honor your ancestors and the Fortunes.

(Casting Path of Inner Peace - Rolled 27, he heals 17)

Chiharu would kneel and prayed, channeling the blessings of the water kami through her hands, their energy flowing over the man. Most of his wounds would heal significantly, leaving only a handful of barely visible cuts, their prior severity only betrayed by the blood staining his clothes.

"Samurai-sama..." the man would say to Chiharu, looking to her. Chiharu, give me a Raw Awareness Roll vs TN 15 to get a glimpse of what his eyes betray.

"I... I must..." he would say lowly, before trying to force himself back to a standing position against the sasumata. His roll to gain control of the grapple is 18; if he beats Tsuyoshi, he will break free and stand once more, still gripping his knife. However, Tsuyoshi maintains the pin with his weapon, preventing the man from standing.

Combat resumes. The blessing of 'Reversal of Fortunes' fades from Tsuyoshi's spirit.

Round 7

27 - Chiharu, Defense Stance, Guarding Ayame
26 - Tsuyoshi, Attack Stance
19 - Ayame, Full Attack Stance, Guarded by Chiharu
17 - Bandit, Attack Stance, 6 damage, Attack Stance, Prone, Grappled
9 - Rakurai, On Edge

"You must NOT. Stay. Down." the little Miya commanded imperiously, finally turning her attention to the struggling man even as she raised her wakizashi defensively. "You are attacking a peaceful envoy, and a Miya besides. The Kami will not stand for this violation, put down your weapon and stain your honor and soul no further! If you have been put up to this you have but to cooperate and we will see that whatever you are being blackmailed with is put right. I promise you the Emperor has a greater reach than any dishonorable schemer."

The magistrate blinked in surprise as the shugenja approaching the restrained criminal helped him answer by calling on the kami. He almost asked what she was doing, curious what sort of spell she was reciting until the man started to thrash again and it became clear.

Leaning into the pole, Tsuyoshi readied himself for a fight- and found holding the man to the ground much easier than he'd been concerned it might be, for the moment at least. Letting out a breath, he stayed put, looking to Miya-sama as she spoke and nodding emphatically- holding his weapon in place but, for the moment, not making any effort to harm the man beyond what his own thrashing against it might do. If the priest and imperial both believed the man deserving of a chance to take the honorable path, he would not argue- but he didn't plan to allow him any success if he chose to stay his course, either.

(Awareness: 21)

Chiharu would move away from the man as he forced himself against the sasumata.

—You must...? We must all follow the wisdom of the Fortunes, the path of the Kami, the orders of our Daimyos and Emperor... there is nothing else a soul must do.

@ Chiharu: In the man's eyes, you get a glimpse of helpless determination. Like failure here was not an option for him, despite impossible odds. With a hint of sadness. He was fully aware of his actions (rather than magically compelled, or an idiot).

--------------------

Round 8

27 - Chiharu, Defense Stance, Guarding Ayame
26 - Tsuyoshi, Attack Stance
19 - Ayame, Full Defense Stance, Armor TN 26
17 - Bandit, Attack Stance, 6 damage, Attack Stance, Prone, Grappled
9 - Rakurai, On Edge

The man seemed angered or frustrated by the conflicting situation he was put in. On one hand, an imperial just told him that "You must not stay down", while on the other hand, a Crane magistrate was keeping him pinned down. Ain't it just the pits to be lower class, Bandit Man? He loses to the grapple on Tsuyoshi's turn, who just keeps him down.

No one takes any actions of their own beyond speaking. The words of Ayame seem to fall on deaf ears, though, as the man continues to attempt to free himself rather than yield. Tsuyoshi, you have to beat an 8 to keep the Bandit from freeing himself on his turn. Assuming you do, everyone is up to act again.

Chiharu seems worried, yet impressed by the man's determination. She thinks for a while and finally anounces:

—Are you a ronin? If there is any samurai blood in you veins, and if Miya-sama allow me, I'm willing to offer you a chance and hire you as my servant. If you are not, it is still my duty to guide the servants of the Empire according the Celestial Order.

Chiharu then turns her attention to the Miya, wondering if she would agree.

Psychofish
I'm trying to think of more for Tsyushi to do than look skeptical and defer to the Miya though.

Quote:
4- Defeat the bandit, bind him, and bring him back to the farming village we left and ask them to hold him.

"Enough of this," Miya Ayame would state, growing frustrated with her assailant's renewed aggression towards her. "If we want answers, this is not the place to get them. Take him down, and we'll bring him to that village for now. Our mission is to map the area, so when we return to rest for the night, we'll interrogate him then. Hopefully he'll be more cooperative."

Speaking takes up all her actions, so Ayame simply remains in Full Defense.

((Rolling first six for grapple roll, last four for damage assuming I win, the extra die per to handle any explosions.))

Tsuyoshi tried not to let the frown show much on his face and risk coloring the imperial's outlook on the situation. A peasant had attacked her- even had he been a ronin, as the magistrate saw it, his fate was assured. And the only authority on which it could change here was hers. He looked to her questioningly, and nodded when he received instruction.

Since the man was still resisting, he gave him a good thrash before speaking.

"Throw your weapon aside and allow yourself to be bound, please. It will be easier for the both of us."

Round 9

27 - Chiharu, Defense Stance, Guarding Ayame
26 - Tsuyoshi, Attack Stance
19 - Ayame, Full Defense Stance, Armor TN 26
17 - Bandit, Attack Stance, 23 damage, Injured, Full Attack Stance, Prone, Grappled
9 - Rakurai, On Edge

--------------------

The man would ignore the pleas and generous words it seemed, letting out a primal yell as he tried to force his way back to his feet once more. Not relenting on the grip of his knife, he struggled once more to rise, only to be forced down to the ground by the force of the magistrate.

Chiharu, if he was at all communicative with you about his social position, apparently the mood is ruined by your fellow Crane turning the man into a bloodied mess. If he had any samurai blood in his veins, most of it was on the sasumata and road at this point in the battle. At this close range, you see no equipment or symbolism or anything indicating that he was anything more than a normal peasant.

On his next turn, he's STILL trying to break out of the grapple, but the result of his roll now fails to exceed the bonus his wound penalties grant his opponent.

Everyone, you're up again!

the peaceful shugenja steps away from the bandit nodding in disappointment while he keep struggling against the magistrate.
Hearing the order of the Miya Chiharu complies, leaving the scroll satchel aside she now have her shakujo (bo) in both hands, targeting the knife for a disarm ( rolled 18 )
