A cheery giggle greeted Vincent as he entered the room. "Get a room, you two!... Wait, this is a room." The disembodied voice, echoing from everywhere and nowhere, seemed slightly confused on where to go from there. Nevertheless, he had a duty! "Nice to meet you, little buddy! My name's Daydream, and I'll be testing your skills today! Pass my exam, and you'll be cleared as a full member of the Academy. Fail, and... well, I'm sure we have pleeeeeeenty of use for janitors." He cackled again. "Kidding, kidding! But seriously, we do need janitors, so if you know anyone who's looking...
Two figures manifested out of the darkness-- one at Vincent's feet, and the other a few meters away. Right in front of the trainer lay a small bottle of silver liquid, which shimmered in the darkness. And a Bagon sat on his haunches, huffing and puffing in the shadows.
"Now, I'm going to guess you're ready to battle... Daydream began. "But you're going to need to have your pretty little Pokemon drink up the option, okay? It's the opposite of poison, really!" Daydream sounded quite sincere.
((Hey there! Would you like the tutorial, since it's been a while, or are you confident that you remember? I'll still be going over our new aiming mechanic when we get there.))

The silence was disrupted by a happy humorous voice. "Hello there, Daydream. I'm Vincent, and this is my partner, Ralts." Vincent gestured to his Ralts who took a little bow to greet the voice. Vincent and Ralts let out a gentle chuckle when the voice made a joke about janitors. "I'll surely let you know if I come across anyone whose interested." He answered seriously.
Vincent was shocked as bottle appeared in front of him and his partner. Listening to the voice, Vincent went ahead and offered the potion to Ralts. "Drink up buddy, I'm...sure...it's not poison." Vincent paused and thought about a possible future where it was poison. He quickly cancelled the thought out of his mind. Ralts had already picked up the silver bottle and sipped all of its content.
"Alright. We're ready to battle now." Vincent answered confidently.
[[ Honestly, I'm pretty sure I have a good grasp of things, but let's go over the tutorial anyways (or a briefer version), if you don't mind! I have questions so I figured a quick refresher can't hurt.
My first question though, is..my Ralts has the move Shadow Sneak which is a priority move. So...typically, my Ralts will always have the first round to attack? ]]
Silently a girl walked into room her clothing was unique to say the least not something you would see someone wearing these days. The teen looked around the dark room only to pull out a poke ball and held onto it waiting for whoever to show up, as she did a slight tapping noise could be heard from her, her finger was tapping the poke ball repeatedly as she waited Silently.

"Hi they, little buddy!" A pleasantly perky voice greeted the girl, ringing out loud and clear from the shadows despite the lack of a body. "Good to meet you! My name's Daydream, and I'll be helping you out today." The disembodied voice babbled on, showing no signs of showing itself. "Now, as you know, you're currently at Akumu Academy, but you ain't technically a student yet! To become a student, you gotta pass this first test! And I'LL be the one administering it! Hehehe..." Daydream trailed off, amused.
As he laughed, two unusual actions would occur. The first might catch the girl's eye solely because of the noise, a loud skittering of claws against the floor. A Wimpod crawled out of the darkness, peering up at the human with cautious interest. The second was much more easy to ignore-- a bottle of shining silver ichor had appeared right at the girl's feet.
"And what's the test?" Daydream was not done talk. He might never be done talking. "Why, you gotta fight me! Me and Squeakers!" The voice had an odd naming conventions. "But before we get there, you gotta release your Pokemon and it drink the potion. Then we can get to the battle." It was clear he wouldn't be taking no for an answer.
((Hello there! I'll be giving the tutorial for the moment. Starting at the beginning...
Akumu Academy runs off a turn-based combat system. The Pokemon with the highest speed stat goes first; in this situation, that's me. When I attack, you defend. When you attack, I defend. And so on, switching until someone's HP reaches zero. In the event Pokemon have the same speed stat, both Pokemon would attack at the same time. After that, the Pokemon who landed the attack would go into defense, and the Pokemon who lost would attack again.
Aim is determined by the roll of 1D20. That ability can be found with the "Post Action" function while posting. I'll roll a die, and you'll roll one. If I roll higher than you, the attack will land. If I roll lower than you, the attack will miss.
I'll cover damage calculation next post. Understanding me so far?))
The girl glanced at the pokemon as it appeared only to respond with a toss of the poke ball she was holding. As the flower looking Pokemon appeared the girl picked up the veil and held it down to the creature and gave it a simple nod before it drank the liquid. The girl stood straight before giving daydream a light bow indicating she was ready.

((18+5) - 5) + (7-8 ) = 17 DMG
Bonedog HP: -4
Taking advantage of Deneb's adrenaline rush paid off. The cutiefly was unfazed by the duskull's movements and pierced right through her. Quite literally at that; Deneb had entered through the front and exited out the back of Bonedog's ghostly body like a little bullet. Whatever matter the ghost was made of promptly flushed back to fill the little cutiefly-sized hole, so while the damage certainly wasn't anything serious or permanent the shock of it all was enough to knock Bonedog out cold.
Deneb hovered over the duskull cautiously. One hit? It was almost too good to be true. He examined the specter from a distance, and once he confirmed that she was certainly defeated...
"> I-I did it! Master, are you proud? <" the bug buzzed frantically, the euphoria finally giving him the nerve to speak. "> I can be a good familiar, see...! I can fight for you~! <" He talked big, but it was obvious he was in a hurry to get back to safety when he rushed to Altair's side. He perched on his trainers shoulder, pleasantly surprised when the finger that came up to him gave him a gentle tap on the back instead of swat him away.
Altair didn't need to speak the same language to understand the cutiefly was happy, a little praise was more than well deserved for his excellent performance. Once done with his encouraging gesture he looked up at where Daydreams voice had come from earlier. "What now? I do not think I have to prove myself further, but I will if I must."
(( Ahh sorry about that, I was a bit too eager to get to the fight. I do understand though! I don't think I need any more explaining which I guess is good considering this outcome. Thank you so much for the refresher though. ))

Aria Cote
- Battle Information - [Bael: +2 Special Attack, +1 Attack Turn Accuracy] [Bael tries to dodge!]
Daydream's reference was lost on Aria, but the sight of the failed attack was funny all the same and managed to get a chuckle out of the girl. Despite the zorua's overreaction, though, the battle wasn't anything to laugh too much about, seeing as the fluffy dark type was once again trying to use its claws on Bael's eyes."Just keep them from getting too close,"the girl instructed, a command that Bael was more than happy to obey as he continued to try and sidestep the zorua's lunges.

{{OoC: Pfft! I didn't even realize I rolled a crit until I saw you note it. XD}}
The voice sounded pretty nice actually ....as she listened and reached down to pat her pokemon. A smile was on her face as the voice gave her a command, and she had to bite back a sneer. She was of higher blood and birth than this voice more than likely, so, the idea that there was a command in it's tone wasn't something she would easily forgive or forget.
But, for now, she had more important things as Aida gave her a look.
"It's the rules."
She told the pokemon as she took the vial and would drop down to her knees in order to give it to her. The Snubbull gave a wince of how bad it tasted, but the vial was dealt with accordingly as the girl stood back up and would swipe away imaginary dust.
"Done, so, we are ready."
She would declare loudly. The sight of the pokemon would only catch her eyes when the Snubbull would tug on the end of her gown.
"Oh, it seems you are ready as well."
"Aida, defend yourself."
They both knew that speed was never the Snubbull strong point, as the pokemon made a defensive stance. No, their strength lie in the attack, and they were both waiting for the flying type to get close enough to make her strength matter.
Aida would growl ...her response to the attempted wink wasn't a happy face, but a mouth full of fangs. She was here to show that breeding indeed meant better.
How uncouth! The Roselia swooned at Umbra's boorish behavior-- of course, the golem hadn't managed to hit him, but he was a delicate artist!... and Astonish, and all that. He lay there in a pathetic heap, effectively declaring Sol and Umbra the winners.
"... well then! I most certainly won't be paying for this service!" Daydream huffed. It wasn't clear how seriously he was being, though the playful little giggle gave a hint. "Not bad, chatty little buddy! You've won, so congratulations!" The strange voice whooped happily. "So you're done here, and welcome to Akumu Academy! How about you go to the Auditorium and check out what you gotta do next?" As he gave his suggestion, the Roselia slowly faded from sight, eaten by the shadows. "Buh-bye, kiddo!"
Altair's query was met with a burst of bizarre cackling. "Bwahaha! Well done, little buddy! Wouldn't have pegged you and your cutie for the vicious types, but I guess I was wrong! " He managed to get his laughing fit under control. "I mean, seriously! Poor Bonedog!"
The Duskull's floated to the ground, the lights in her skull extinguished. But before she could land peacefully, she'd disappeared, body absorbed by the darkness as her spirit had been absorbed by the Bee Fly Pokemon.
"So nope! You don't have to prove anything... I mean, to me, at least. You ARE still a an entry-level student, kiddo. A grunt!" Daydream relished the word. "But for now, you're done here! Go to the Auditorium and figure out where you gotta go next!" The shadows pulled in close, what little light the Battle Room had possessed dimming. "Good luck out there! Not everyone will be as nice as I am..."

"Feeling quiet, little buddy?" Daydream asked. "That's okay! I can talk enough for the both of us! It's okay if you're shy or you can't speak or there's a Nincada living in your tongue!" He gave a pleasant giggle, before whistling to the Wimpod. "Squeaker! Go get'em with Metal Claw"
The Wimpod grumbled a bit; he didn't like fighting all that much... but he supposed he couldn't disobey a direct order. With a whistle, he rushed right towards the Fomantis, claws outstretched to slice the weed.
((Now, you're going to be rolling for your defense in your next post. Keep in mind that defense involves dodges, blocking, trying to distract the Pokemon, etc... NOT attacking. You can attack during dodge turns, but that's something we'll cover latter, and I'd like to explain it before you get there.
Damage calculation is pretty straight-forward. The formula goes thusly.
Say I roll a 16 for attack, and you roll a 15 for defense. That would make the damage calculation this
(16-15) + (8-7) = 2 DMG!
Now, things would be a little different if the rolls were reversed, however! See, as a trainer, you're in possession of something called an Aim Modifier, which allows your Pokemon to focus a little harder than others! Your Aim Modifier is 5-- remember that, because it'll help. Now, if you had rolled 16 for attack, and I'd rolled 15 for defense...
((16+5) - 15) +(8-7) = 7 DMG!
Makes sense so far? Also, the mods ask that you find a picture that's more fitting; no student in the Academy is older than 14 or 15.))

"Mwhehe! Rarin' to go, are we? Let's see how it goes, little buddy!" Daydream's giggling fit hadn't quite stopped; it seemed the disembodied voice was amused by almost everything. "If you're going on the defense... then I'll go offense! Puffball, charge it up."
The Woobat chittered, unintimated by the snarling Snubbull. The most beautiful roses had the biggest thorns! And he'd prune her to perfection. Puffball shut his lone eye, focusing with all his might. In, he opened wide, sending a Charge Beam right out his eye!

/UPUPUPU~/ Even if she'd gotten hit with a bit of recoil, Eins couldn't help crowing her strike. She hefted the stick in her shadowy grip, staring viciously at the Pikachu.
"... yeah." In some part of her heart, she new she should probably praise Eins, but Nim never could bring herself to do it. Pokemon were bad enough, but Pokemon fighting? Pokemon brutalizing each other, striking and clawing? Awful. She scanned the room ,looking everywhere but the battle before her. Maybe the void would give up its secrets? She barely registered Nightmare's instructions-- she didn't know what that move did, and she didn't care. "Just... do something."
The Mimikyu ignored her trainer's disdain. Nimrose was a grump, and they could work on that later. For now... the Pikachu. The darkneses under her rags writhed as she struggled with what to do next.... well, if Nim was feeling nervous, it was her job to charge ahead! Without a hint of hesitation, she swung her stick right at the Pikachu. Time for a counter with Wood Hammer!

(8-7)+(8-6) = 3 DMG! Bael is at 11 HP!
/... I hit him!/ While the scratch was tiny, barely grazing against the Houndour, it WAS a hit, and Fluffers was going to take any victories he got. /I DID IT, I DID IT!/ he crowed, bouncing on his toes and fluffing up his tail.
"Well, whaddya know?" Daydream mused, giggling. "Attafluff! You might make it after all... though I'd suggest you get to dodging!"
With a heady giggle, the Zorua launched himself up into the air, diving right into the darkness to hide.

"Attaboy! That's the spirit!" Daydream seemed quite pleased at Vincent's readiness for battle. He wasn't a fan of the more timid youths... in Akumu, it was strike or be struck. "We'll see if you can keep this spirit up... Egghead! Rage!"
The Bagon grumbled; he didn't LIKE throwing a temper tantrum. He just wanted to take a nap... but, with a bit of reluctance, he lumbered towards the Ralts, waving his tiny arms wildly. He aimed to crash right into her!.
((Not quite. Priority moves are odd in Akumu; do you remember Counter Attacks? You can attack during a defense turn, but if you happen to fail that attack, you take double the damage you would have. With moves like Shadow Sneak, you don't suffer that penalty. Yes, it's a bit odd.
For now, however, as our Pokemon have the same speed, they'll be attacking at the same time. Whichever of us rolls the highest has their attack land. As you might remember, damage calculation is done thusly-- (Higher Attack Roll - Defense Roll) + (Attack Stat - Defense Stat)
HOWEVER! There's a new mechanic called the Aim Modifier! It's quite simple-- as a rank one trainer, Vincent has an Aim Modifier (or AM) of 5. This AM grants your Pokemon extra focus, which plays out as adding 5 to your accuracy roll. So say you outroll me in the next clash... the formula would be this-- ((Your Attack Roll + 5) - My Roll) + (Attack Stat - Defense Stat)
Do you understand? It's something new, so ask me to clarify if you need.))
