Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

So many words.... and this did not seem like the proper time and place to ensure her strength was known. Why torment the garden with a display? .... As it was, adding more fire to the currently simmering energy between the two alpha males wasn't likely to diffuse the situation. She still had a very real concern for her people. Curiously enough, for all of her poise, she could better handle how to help those people instead of being someone in need of help.

Though, in her attempt to bring conversation and discussion back to the forefront of their attention, came words that sounded laced in poison. Anger. Deals behind his back? Was he assuming treacherous intent from her?

She bit her tongue, lest she say anything that would undermine the goal of this current conversation. As she stood, Dixon closed the distance and made the simple statement. It was noted. She didn't like the defensive way her heart twitched. She moved her arms into her sleeves and began to walk.

"Your highness, if you would be so kind as to show the way to the library, or perhaps a conference room, I would be most obliged."

Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris

What Dixon said held some shocking truth to it. Though Roland wasn't on good terms with the nonnative puffy chested man, he did realize that he wasn't too clear on how Youkimi felt about everything; The weight of the many needs of the refugees thrusted upon her shoulders. The fact that he thought Youkimi strong was the very reason he gave her the position, because he thought she wanted to make a difference for her people in his community, but maybe he is expecting too much from a single person. Perhaps it was unfair of Roland to want to have Youkimi in this straining position, especially after seeing how upset the count was when whispering in the woman's ear.

Indeed Youkimi and Dixon had a relationship of some kind, as friends or master and commander, which Roland was creating a wedge within by accident.

Feeling as though he's brought unwanted attention to her, Roland kindly bows when Youkimi asks to be shown to the library or conference room and swiftly dose the prince begin to show the way to a quite place they may all chat. "The old throne room has been reinvented as the council's meeting hall. We can speak there for now." Thank the gods it wasn't that far from the area of the garden they were currently at but the walk was rather silent. Roland didn't know quite what to say to defuse tension but he did know what he wanted to ask once in the room.

Two guards were called to join them by Roland's silent command of hand, and they each made sure to be behind Youkimi and Dixon so to close the doors. No one was to enter the council's meeting hall at this time and no one was to repeat what is said here in the room. The guards knew this rule and respected their fellow knight's wish, but Roland wasn't so sure about the other two...Her trusted Youkimi yet Dixon was another story. With everyone in the room Roland would pick up where they left off and speak to Dixon openly. "Before I go flapping my mouth I want to know if there is even any point in trying to negotiate a trade with you, count Dixon. Your queen has approved Bellris to work on this road...Do you also wish to join progress or will you make it clear you want nothing to do with me at this time? Make no mistake, what deal we strike here and now will only be between you and I as man to man, but afterwords if you wish to make a deal I will need the rest of the Council to do so...So, where is it that you stand Dixon?"

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

The blue-plumed pheonix, while others rushed to the festival and made ready to enjoy the light and love of the season, made deliberate steps toward the palace gate. With careful hold of two letters, she kept her head high and her posture confident and deliberate. At her side was one of the few guards that stayed by her side after the loss of her home. The guard was not dressed in anything remarkably ornate. He wore chainmail beneath the humble colors that betrayed him as a servant of the Kai household, further denoted by the simple blue flame stitched into the shoulders.

Youkimi herself was dressed appropriately for a baroness, though not in bold colors that demanded attention. Clean and prepared, she was introduced at the gate by her guard, and with little further ado, she was admitted within the castle. She would step within, following her guard and keeping her guard up, if at any time the situation changed.

Once within the castle, she would await directions for where she was supposed to go in order to properly meet with the head councilwoman. Offhandedly, she wondered if the prince would also attend this meeting.

Clothing: red dress
Mood: Intrigued

Hysteria stood like a stature in the center of the hall, the only proof she wasn't in fact one was the slight rise and fall of her chest and an occasional blink. Her son, now a month old, asleep in her arms. His blonde hair had already started to darken, making him look more and more like his father. She had stationed eight, loyal, Bellris born guards at four doors. Two of those doors where behind Hysteria guarded by four guards and when Youkimi finally stopped four guards guarding two doors where behind her as well. She watched the Baroness with her guard, noticed the blue stitching even from this far away, she recognized him on the fact that he was not Bellrisian- he did not hold the features that seemed to come with being born in the cold north, the hands where that of a swordsmen not a farmer.

Hysteria didn't bother smiling, but she wasn't frowning either. Neutrality. She had no problem with Youkimi upon the council, but she wasn't going to allow it so easily, not without finding out what she wanted to know. "Welcome to Castle Bellris Baroness Kai. If you desire to come closer so we may speak in a more civilized and softer tone you may, but your guard will stay where he currently stands, A chair will be provided for him if he needs it" Hysteria stated "I would prefer to keep the tone down, if my son where to wake it would make this meeting quite difficult to hold." Hysteria said as a guard would walk into a room and take out three chairs, One was set down by Youkimi's guard another was set by Hysteria and a third was set about fifteen feet in front of Hysteria.

Hysteria would sit down on her chair, moving one hand to smooth her skirts before sitting. It seemed this meeting would be held in the hallway "Allow me to start with two things. First off I will admit my sending of an unmarked, unsigned letter was misjudged. However as a baroness...a woman in power, you should see the problem with sending letters in the first place. Signatures can be easily replicated as can seals." Hysteria said, bringing her hand back up to her son. "And secondly a few things I would like answers to. Why do you want power in Bellris, Why are you here in Bellris, and does your Queen know of your being here?" she started out, and that was only the basics of what she wanted to know.

The guard looked to his mistress questioningly. Neither of them were ignorant of the small troop that fell into step with them, seemingly doing so to warn her against escaping, though whether this was the intent did not seem particularly clear. If it was an honorable escort, then to be sure, the baroness was honored. Still, it was also a very bold reminder that she was in foreign territory and she could not be certain that this would be a friendly discussion.

She gave her guard a simple nod, and he affirmed the order with a bow. He turned and stood at a relaxed attention that would best allow him to move, should the situation require it, but he would not pursue the baroness further as she left the guards behind her and approached the councilwoman standing yet afar off. It would not do to wake the baby, would it?

As she approached and crossed the room that seemed so dangerously empty and large, she pondered what the councilwoman shared. She was the one to send the unmarked letter. It was an admission, yes, but not an apology. At best, it seemed just strange that this was the method the woman went about contacting her. It was suspicious, strange, and was quite unorthodox. If there was such a concern about being able to replicate symbols of office, could the message have been sent by a trusted messenger instead? Perhaps a rehearsed oral message? Or perhaps the councilwoman's mind was distracted when she decided to write the letter. Youkimi could think of a few ways to work around this.... but why disrupt the confidence of the councilwoman?

Fifteen feet wasn't particularly comfortable and didn't encourage calm and polite conversation, but Youkimi could imagine that there was something useful there between them, such as a table, and she could make do with the strange spacing. She took the seat and arranged herself with impeccable posture, as was her habit.

When the councilwoman had posed her questions, the baroness took a moment to ponder and gather her thoughts. Then she answered, her tone and voice clear, and her words as direct as politeness allowed. She would address the questions as they were presented.

"Councilwoman, I'm afraid there has been a mistake if you believe that I am here because I seek power. I am within your country because it provided stable ground for me to assist in the efforts to rebuild my home."

This was an easy matter to answer and she imagined it would open up further questions from the councilwoman. Youkimi felt she was prepared to clarify the matter in an efficient way. The third question was an interesting one. She found herself wondering if it was meant to lead her or to pry into her motivations, or to have her admit something that was not wise to share. "I cannot pretend to understand or know the mind and heart of my Queen. I beg you forgive me, but I cannot and will not speak on her behalf here."

Hysteria looked at Youkimi "I have spoken to your Queen. Almost two months ago actually, We came to an accord during our meeting that would have Bellris give Ethe support. Obviously not weapons, but that we would help with food, healthcare, and rehousing those that have been relocated by the volcanos destruction." Hysteria openly said "The fact that you are still here despite your country's continued recovery only means that you want something. That you would accept the word of a councilperson without getting recognition from the rest of the council means that other dealings are in place. Did you not find it odd that despite being instated into the council you where not formally introduced to the rest of its members?"

Hysteria looked Youkimi up and down for a second, taking in her appearance, her clothing- she was clearly still Ethen in loyalty she had admitted that with the first words that came out of her mouth. "As a woman from Ethe you should already be well aware of the hostilities that are still well known between our two peoples. Because most of my people outside of the capital do not speak the common tongue they believe that all of the Ethen's coming in from southern border are invading. Deaths in the east, both Bellrisian and Ethen are high, because things have yet to be straightened out both of our people will continue to die without cause. I came to an agreement with your queen, and I originally had plans to set aside land for the people of Ethe to farm, live upon and call home if they so chose to stay after the problems in Ethe have settled." Hysteria said, her voice maintaining its emptiness "But due to your...and this, Count Dixion's interference, Any plans that may have benefited both our people must be put on hold. So again. Baroness Youkimi of Ethe, what do you want here so badly that you would go behind your Queen's back in order to achieve? because clearly if you truly cared so highly for the wellbeing of your people you would not be attempting to undermine them here and back in your own country by attempting to make deals without your Queen's knowledge, advise, or consent"

The subtle hostility in the words did not aid the baroness' opinion of the councilwoman in this situation, though she seemed very confident in the position she held in their current conversation. Youkimi would not allow her reactions to betray her, as she sat and patiently waited for her turn in the current conversation. To hear the accord of the councilwoman and of the queen was indeed something, and more information than she had previously, and certainly more than had been told to her in the first place. The condescension of the accusation was irritating and almost insulting.

"Again, I'm afraid you misunderstand my situation, councilwoman." Youkimi maintained an even tone and deliberately calmed her steadily rising emotions. "I am not familiar with the procedure of stating anyone to positions in the council, and I was led to believe that if one spoke with the authority of the council, that they spoke for the rest. As it was, I did not act with any authority because I had not been granted it, but offered a position which I still had yet to affirm or accept as there was no ceremony or written confirmation of said assignment."

She noticed that she was being studied, but as any high-bred phoenix, she held her ground and maintained her posture as though it did not matter. She would remain collected and composed. She was very, very aware of former and present hostilities between their two nations. Why else would she have chosen here to stage her outreach attempts? Knowing that the refugee death count had been high, she needed to be in a position to speak on their behalf, so she came here. The other two kingdoms could be reasoned with by more civic means, as she found by reason of letters and select messengers. She was not ignorant of the state of her people. Far from it.

"If a deal had already been made with Ethe's queen, I'm impressed that my presence can disrupt the plans in motion." She said this with equal civility, though with not quite an empty voice as the chairwoman felt she needed to maintain. "Some among us are much closer to the people and so do what we can to assist them more directly than higher policy can achieve. I hope you understand that the devestation caused by the fiery mountain did more than just lay waste to countryside and farmland, but it also disrupted the peace of mind of the kingdom. How many among kin and family were pronounced dead? Presumed lost? Loved ones swallowed by flame. The strongest among us broken and maimed, some permanently disabled. Screams haunt the dreams of every surviving Ethian. And you presume to sit here before me and declare that I would dare undermine any effort to see my nation whole and that I would betray my kingdom by making deals for power?"

Youkimi felt a twitch of a snarl on her lips, but she suppressed it and paused to let the words fill the chamber. After all, it wouldn't do to wake the baby. Her expression pacified. She would be very clear. "I did not seek out the council. Members of the council sought me. If there is to be hostility between us then I see no point in lingering here. I can better help my people elsewhere instead of in discussion with someone who is determined to make a fool out of me."

Youkimi allowed her words to stay in the air, letting a moment for the declaration to sink in. Then she would offer just one thing. "What is your motivation if you seek me out so boldly? What do you stand to gain by making such a deal with Her Highness as to seek to remove me instead of invite my help?"

Hysteria stared at this woman...this Ethen fool was really that stupid? "I do not seek to remove you from Bellris, I seek to find out where you stand, to know how much you want to help your people and how much you will end up hindering me in the process" Hysteria told her "I do not know you. I do not care for your existence in this world, nor do I care for your companions deals with my brother. So long as Bellris thrives I will make sure that whatever I can do with what remains of my power will be beneficial to my people and the growth of my country" Hysteria sat up straighter in her chair "And since the concept of a council is fairly new to this world let me educate you. One does not speak for the all, we must meet and converse, come to a conclusion and make progress not for the individual but for the entirety of this land"

Her child let out a small whimper and Hysteria sighed, adjusting her hands as she started to gently rock the boy "Anyone that comes into Bellris with plans can throw a wrench into things. You included." Hysteria kept her calm "My son, if he was born a girl would have been named after my sister. She died not to long ago. Visiting your Kingdom in an attempt to make peace with Ethe. Over 70 years ago Bellris was forced to suffer because of the last time this volcano erupted, burying our crops in a layer of ash so thick it caused famine thoughout my Kingdoms land. Every year in Bellris alone people suffer; Fathers go out hunting never to return, Mothers vanish into thin air, children fall into the river and every day people die. Women scream when they realize that their children are swept away down river, over the side of the world never to be seen again. My people suffer just as yours do, except our suffering does not end when the fire goes out."

Hysteria looked up at a guard "Bring it here" she said and the guard nodded, leaving "What I wanted you here for, was to propose a deal. The people of Ethe will be given land to live on, farm on, and make a life on. They will be able to make their own lives and they will be aloud to call themselves citizens of Bellris. So long as they live on this land they can live in peace, and when Ethe is habitable again they can leave if they wish. or they can stay and become true citizens of Bellris, having had children, found wives, farmed and created a livelihood here. You can help them if you so desire, and you will be on the council, on the condition that you forfeit your Lands and Titles you hold in Ethe. That you sign in stone that you are no longer a citizen of Ethe but a full Citizen of Bellris, in Name, Law, and Residence. That upon joining the council, abandonment of your post shall deem you a traitor in this life and the next.... and your life forfeit." Hysteria said as the stone was brought out along with a paper, both held the same words, detailing exactly what Hysteria said "and it seems you are mistaken Baroness. I did not invite your help. You are not needed. I am offering my help, the council is offering its help. It is up to you weather you have a saying in it or not."

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Youkimi heard, again, misunderstanding in the words spoken by the woman who seemed very determined to have her way and fixed in her perspective. Unfortunate, as it meant that she wouldn't likely listen to what counters and suggestions would be made to alter her current mindset. Proof was given in her interpretation of 'remove'. Youkimi was under the current understanding that she was indeed a "hindrance" that Hysteria wanted 'removed' from her plans. She had no intention of leaving the country just yet.

Still.... unfortunate.

Then came a greater affront than anything else. In the midst of everything, in declaring that the council needed deliberation, why was a lone woman with an infant sitting before her and declaring to her what was to be done? Where was the deliberation she talked about? This woman, clearly, could not speak for the council if her own words were to believed. She glanced over the paper and affirmed for herself that it was a written copy of what she had detailed thus far.

It wasn't a deal. If what the councilwoman said was true, there was already a lot happening and going on. Youkimi still was trying to understand the specific accusation. If she was an interference, how? If her presence was such an affront, was this really the remedy for it? What was there to be gained if she abandoned title and land? If she gave up her home this way, how would that really benefit her people?

The baroness returned her gaze to the councilwoman. "My lady, it occurs to me that you have me at a disadvantage. You know my name, but I cannot say I know yours."

traveling to Bellris was something he thought he would never do again. yet here he stood. getting to the castle proved a hassle something he already expected. one of the only things that saved him was that he had learned how to speak some of bellris tongue. enough to introduce himself and say where he was going. money could often take care of the rest. he hoped that someone would have gone along and told the former queen of his intent to visit her as he took the slow road to bellris.

As he stood in front of the front gates he announced himself. he told his carriage to drive of. leaving the man with only a black chest. he let himself be searched he carried no weapons with him. two guards followed him, flanking him at all times as they took him towards there former queen. the black chest held in his hands. he could hear the words of people talking. as he walked within seeing distance he was surprised to see a baroness of the Ethe land sitting next to the woman in the red dress. as he stared at the queen for a brief second he decided that his gifts would look good at her.

Hysteria smiled at Youkimi for a brief moment "Of course I have you at a disadvantage. I am the head council woman here, I was once queen. If you do not know my name then your disadvantage is your own problem and no one else's but your own to deal with." she said, nodding to the guard and the man took the stone and the paper away, returning it to the room it had been in. "The council put forward this choice to you, I simply delivered it. And as you do not seem to want to have a voice then I guess we do not need to continue this meeting." she said just as a man was escorted down the hallway.

Hysteria's eyes flickered with remembrance, he may be old and pune like now but she would never forget those eyes that he shared with their mother. None the less she pushed that feeling of remembrance back down "I was not expecting guests, to what do I owe this pleasure?" she asked him, a small smile on her face. She then looked at Youkimi "Perhaps a trial then. To see what can be gained from letting you be on the council, because what I see now, Bellris and even your people have nothing to gain from you being here. If you want to prove your usefulness, then becoming the apprentice of a Councilmember is probably a more beneficial start. Would you not agree?" she asked

The affront was complete with the lack of civility that came with the baroness' inquiry to know the name of the woman she addressed. While the letter had given it, it would have been impolite to assume that this woman was Hysteria Izadora Bellris, the unmarried untitled chair of a republic who was yet mother, and who in all her bold nobility failed to stoop to the simplicity of polite conversation. This mockery of royalty rudely affronted the baroness who she still tried to coerce to her side and bidding. This baroness was not to be made a patsy of a domineering weakling who thought that her position afforded her all power and none of the civility.

Youkimi's displeasure was evident by the way her eyes narrowed in scrutiny and in the beginnings of physical frustration. This was not to be borne. "Forgive me for giving you the chance to begin this conversation with polite and civil tones."

Youkimi noted the arrival of the newest person who sought council with the former queen. This was not a private audience, clearly. There was no respect given here if the baroness could not hold a conversation with a woman without fear of her child suddenly crying and if they couldn't be disturbed for the length of the conversation. The rudeness, arrogance, conceit, and lack of propriety was painted all across this scene! And she was to be beckoned to be merely an apprentice at the cost of her lands, title, and honor?

"I cannot take your word any more than I can take the word of the knight who first approached me. If you work alongside a council, show them to me and let us discuss together instead of forcing me to believe and take all words from your account alone." Youkimi brought herself to a stand, removing herself from her seat. Her eyes borrowed a steel-edged glare as she watched the former queen. "I cannot sacrifice or give up my lands, my home, my title, or my loyalty. I will not agree to the conditions as they currently stand in regards to myself and the council. I decline the position and I will sign nothing in stone."

She folded her arms into her sleeve. This woman, who would not introduce herself, also gave her no reason to bow. There was no reason to give respect to someone who afforded her none in turn. If former queen, she was no longer true royalty. If her authority was divided amongst a council that was not present, she had no reason to lower her head to a figurehead.

"I suppose this does end our conversation, councilwoman." Youkimi concluded, her tone returning to a calm control. "I feel you never felt altruism for my case. If your goal is for the betterment of Bellris, I wish you all the best. I will not sacrifice Ethe to promote Bellris."

She excused herself from the conversation by inclining her head, affording the councilwoman only the respect of an equal, and then she turned to begin leaving the room. Unless she was stopped, there was nothing more to say. She made eye contact with her guard, who remained standing for the duration of this short meeting, and he bowed at the unspoken command. As she approached, he fell into step with her. She saw for herself the person whose footsteps she heard enter the room. An elder gentlemen. A citizen of Ethe carrying a black box. She stopped and studied the man, for a moment in wonder and concern, and then her expression calmed again. It was good to see another Ethian.

She collected herself and set her hand over her heart, bowing slightly to him. "Pardon, how fares your land?"

tho his face showed calmness, he could not really understand what was happening. the outburst from the baroness did much to clear things. it seems that the baroness felt slighted. tho honestly so did he, he wondered just how little the nobles knew of etherland to not know who ruled it. he let a kindly smile spread on his face.
" that young baroness is what i'm here to speak of. if you could please stay."
with that he took a step forward behind her. " please stay, you do not want to make the situation much worse then it seems to be" he whispered to her ear, walking forward entrusting his words to reach the woman.
a loud thud could be heard as the chest hit the ground. a light bow came from the an as he introduced himself. " my apologies to you. it seems they did not tell you of my coming. I am the mayor of Etherland Joachim Alexei. I came, to let you be one of the first to know of how your treaty with our queen has helped us in ethe."
he finally stood up looking the councilwoman in her eyes, he felt he saw something there that tugged at his mind. " I apologize for any anger the baroness might have given, we in ethe are to accustomed to playing in our own games. and the thought of a republic is so new I ask for your forgiveness for her assumptions."

he mentioned to the chest. " I did bring 3 gifts to you, tho I do not know if you would be willing to humor an old soul such as mine with presenting them to you before you make your judgement?" the queen would recognize the old mans move. he would not claim that nothing wrong had happened, but rather by playing up the ethe political structure give a good reason for the been to understand why the baroness behaved the way he did. also giving the baroness a way to ask for forgiveness n her own. He seemed to have instantly tried to become a mediator for the two. he also came here on a mission, and sought to conduct himself as someone worthy of his station. everything of him spoke politician, but the chest and his own clothes spoke of someone who had worked by hand. the chest appeared simple at first view,

but as one looked at it clearly work had been put into it. it had a god lock with a black stone in the middle.

The pride of good work always seems less

Clothing: red dress
Mood: Bored, Calm

Hysteria smiled simply, the first sign of emotion she had shown though the entire conversation "If that is your wish" she said as the guards took away the chairs, signaling that this conversation was in fact over. She then would curtsy ever so slightly, using her left hand to move her skirts out of the way. Hysteria wasn't a petty woman, and as far as she cared she had won. The Baroness was foolish and without merit or skill to offer.

Hysteria would then turn her head to look back at the Mayor of Etherland, a small smile on her face "It is not you that I require an apology from. You have done nothing but been kind and humble since your arrival." she said to him. She looked at the box and then back at the Mayor "You may present them, please" she said as she looked down at her son, he had woken up, but he was silent, blinking up at her with his golden eyes.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

At the behest of the mayor, the baroness lingered. She saw a curious glance from her guard, though a nod affirmed that she would linger yet. The guard bowed and stood aside for now. Whatever the former queen felt of the situation, Youkimi found that she had learned a great deal from this meeting, while unfortunately gaining nothing at all. For now, she would listen.

As much as she disliked the smile the councilwoman wore, one of pride and arrogance of a victory they felt they one, Youkimi found her concern was placed elsewhere instead of in the opinion of one lone woman who didn't see the problem inherent in this situation nor in trying to force the baroness into such a situation. Were the roles reversed, of course the councilwoman would have been deeply offended. The disappointing thing was she didn't realize the depth of the offense.

Youkimi would not retrench for the pride of the woman who did not introduce herself to this stranger. For all she knew, this baroness was not who she thought she was. Perhaps that was for the best.

She listened to the mayor's words and held her tongue for now. She heard the prod that even seemed to demand an apology from this daughter of Ethe. Noted, but this was not her conversation. She would not intervene unless asked.
