The choice felt immediately obvious to Davor. Naturally, he was horrified to find so many of his fellow Chosen voting the complete opposite. Not one to usually speak up, more liable to follow majority rule than come up leader himself, he felt himself growing increasingly angry. As more and more professed their support for what felt like complete and utter abandonment of the very people relying on them, his hand, at least the flesh-and-blood one he had left, turned to a shaking fist at his side. No man left behind had been the rule among his comrades, and he felt himself thrown back there again, back when he'd still had everything but a healthy sense of self-preservation.

He'd lost a lot, and still never learned. He'd lost a lot and hadn't learned because he clearly hadn't done enough then. Davor's jaw was set, tense, his teeth gritted and biting back words that usually were a struggle to pull out. He heard Erica's vote loud and clear and wasn't exactly surprised -- but it hurt, almost. He'd come to consider her someone he'd look for, out there. He didn't want to consider the chance that they'd be sentencing more people to their deaths when they could help it. Davor took a step back. Not mentally, as though to really weigh sides and think this through objectively. Literally, took a step back, as though just edging to slip away and look for any more civilians himself. He'd been left for dead before and it wasn't something he'd wish on anyone.

Jan listened to the others opinions and comments with a flat and distant sort of detachment. His own decision was motivated not by a desire to rescue anyone but a desire to avoid being buried in the hotel by some fluke accident. Save the civilians became synonymous with "save Jan" and that for him was the most important thing. Of course, he'd never actually say this out loud and instead spoke up.

"A hotel is an acceptable loss and the loss of life if the hotel is destroyed and buried will be much greater than if we escape across the mountains. It isn't winter any longer, the mountains will be less lethal than if it was indeed winter, beyond the snow line it's hot and pleasant." he shrugged.

"So yes, I vote to leave and save the civilians. And that isn't even assuming that one of those hearth situations could simply walk them all out of here."

This was hard. Harder then Beaulah originally assumed it would be. Most of her wanted to stay and protect the hotel, however thinking of that little girl and the brother that she had been unable to go and save made her think twice. How many people had loved ones and family members that still needed saving? She would bet a lot. But was it totally fair to leave all of those at the hotel in order to save them? There was a lot of people in the hotel and although they had fortified the hotel pretty good those birds were ruthless.

The points being made by the other Chosen were all good ones, she would give them that, but her mind kept wandering to the little girl. She was so sad that her brother hadn't been saved, but then again leaving might mean that the little girl didn't make it out alive either. Who do you save, the guardian that would make the child's life better or the child? This wasn't something that she was use to thinking about, and if thinking like this was what being a Chosen meant she wasn't all that happy to be a Chosen anymore.

"I vote we leave and save the civilians." She said in a bold voice. "We have done enough here that they should be safe, the hotel is a much safer place to be then trapped out there. We should give everyone a fighting chance to live." That just her two cents, if people took it or not was up to them.

After heated debate, it seemed that a decision had been made -- or, well, close enough to a decision. Brynn chewed on her fingernails as they talked, eyes sweeping around the lot like a nervous animal. As much as the Chosen hated making this decision, it was clear that she kind of hated it too. And Brynn not only had been at the Prytaneum for a while, but she worked there.

"Okay, okay." She stepped in finally, voice wavering and then solidifying, her chin tipped up, to break up all the disagreements. "I think...I think we've reached a decision. We're staying, and I mean that, no one try to go off on your own. We don't want to lose anyone more than we have to."

And that, she paled. Closed her eyes for just a moment, and half turned to address Diana in a quiet, hushed tone. Finally, she nodded.

"Everyone, gather up everything that you can and get ready to defend. The birds are coming, so prepare to board up windows and patch holes, or prepare to stave them off with whatever weapons you brought."

A sound gathers: wings flapping and cawing, and the wild monsters begin their assault while Brynn and Diana rush off to prepare the speakers.

OOC:

The birds have begun their assault on the building!
This stage of the RP will last for 24 hours!

At the moment, the building is at 200 HP.
Every hour, the birds deal 30 damage.

Each player can post once an hour [hours being defined as 12:00-1:00, 1:00-2:00, etc], to do one of two things:

> FORTIFY THE BUILDING: RP out your character fortifying the building. At the bottom of your post, in bold blue font, put the building's HP. This starts at 200, plus 4HP for each person who fortifies. Don't worry about subtracting any damage done by the birds. We'll post updates every few hours on the outcome.

> ATTACK THE BIRDS: Roll 1d6, as per any combat roll, where the damage is determined by the weapon you're using. At the bottom of your post, in bold red font, keep a running tally of the damage total. Doing damage to the birds will reduce the amount of HP done per hour. We'll post updates on this as well.

Mathilda could not believe what was happening. These people were willing to let people die, without even trying. In her mind, the was murder. She understood the need to help those in the hotel, but they have a fighting chance. When the Avalanche comes, those people still outside won't.

Growling, she sunk her dagger into a bird near her head, using the momentum to catch the one behind it in the beak. She couldn't stab anyone here, but the birds made a decent substitute.

Tara was nearly seeing red to hear how many people were so willing to leave the other people die out in the snows. Yes, she understood it: protect the people they knew they had located and defend the hotel, the only real standing shelter. She understood the logic. But it broke her heart to know so many people were just... abandoned out there.

Her hands shook as she retrieved her bow and quiver. Managed to string her bow, jaw set and mumbling a mantra to herself that it was stupid to try and go outside to look for people. Brynn even said herself, don't do it. It was stupid. Do what she could here, protect the people here. Even if she had immense moral issues with quite a few of her fellow Chosen...

No reason to take it out on the people here in the hotel.

Tara moved towards one of the windows, trying to fire at one of the many incoming birds. Her arrow went long, and she cussed, missing without a shadow of a doubt. Her hands shook so much... Tara sucked in air, trying to calm herself down. She wouldn't be of any use if she didn't focus. The decision was made. There was nothing more she could do but try and defend the hotel now.

Mal found a spot where it looked like the birds might get through, and prepared to keep the birds off it. He'd do it until someone had a weaker spot or someone got around to fortifying the spot. He didn't mind-- at least stabbing at the birds would relieve some of his irritation.

He was still using the sword-- his sword, now, and at least he was comfortable with it. At least. He'd had enough time to get used to it, he might as well call it his.

He stabbed out, not cautiously. He probably should have been more cautious, but for now it served well. He winced a little as the bird he'd caught with the tip of his sword screeched. Too close, too loud.

Misha shook her head and slipped from her chair without a word as the decision was announced. She hadn't voted. She had been too lost in her head. It wasn't like her at all and that shifted her feeling of worry and sorrow in the direction of anger and annoyance. How dare they all throw her so far out of herself that she could not put her foot down and speak up?

In retrospect and surprise, she acknowledged that part of her anger was at herself. She had, in fact, made a heart-vote; she had wanted to save those outside. She wondered how any of them would be able to sleep after this?

Mobile mouth thinning into a line of determination, Misha scooped up her buckler from where she had let it drop earlier and strode to the nearest gap in the fortifications. Pressing against the wall, she thrust out with her sheild but only caught a glancing blow on a nearby bird.

Still... It helped some.

Thank Athena--that was what he had settled on, at the moment--that they had decided to use common sense and stick with the civilians that were definitely alive and definitely needed protection. Zebulon would have obeyed if he had to, but he had little interest in going outside and trying to find people that were likely already dead. It seemed like a bad strategy.

It may have made him seem a little cold, but he thought that some of these Chosen were a bit too optimistic.

Proving that they were right in staying came a swarm of birds flying right at the hotel almost just in time for them to stop debating. Well. Alright then.

He turned his attention to Diryas briefly and stated, "I think I might be better served building up the defenses at the moment. I'm going to see if there's any cleaning supplies left, maybe some bleach." He didn't know how effective bleach would be on mechanical s**t birds, but he would make the effort to run off and try to find some. He was fairly sure he had left some on the cleaning cart he had used to fortify that door a couple days ago...

Once he located some bleach, he grabbed the nearest bucket and poured some in there. Then, he rigged it up to a rope and tied it up to the door. If he saw some birds approaching from this end, maybe he could pour some of this on them. At the very least, it might scare them off...

It took a moment for her to feel remotely stable enough to turn back towards the opening in the window, pick up her bow, pull back on the string, and select a target of the mob.

A part of her was petrified. There were so many birds... and so few of them. Her gut was cold, thinking of the people still out there. What they were going to do. What they'd condemned them to. But she managed to push it away enough to focus on her shot, exhaling and going still. When she loosed the arrow, it managed to strike one of the birds head on, though she couldn't relish the sound of it's cry of pain--and anger--for more than a brief second. There were still many more to try and hit.

It was all about focusing on one piece at a time for Mal; if he focused too hard on the approaching horde of birds, he wouldn't be able to focus on the target on front of him. And thinking about not thinking about it didn't help; it wasn't a solid hit. He could feel it in the way the sword jarred in his hand -- or maybe the way it didn't jarred against his hand.

After rigging up his bleach-dousing contraption, Zebulon looked around for other things that might be useful to increase the defenses of the hotel. These birds were attacking pretty viciously--

A quick search around the area helped him locate a cleaning cart that was full of dirty towels. They were no longer damp at this point, but they may be useful as a thick cloth to try and stuff up places where the birds had already caused some damage. Cloth was not a terribly efficient barrier by itself, but perhaps balled up, it could help a bit more.

He grabbed some of the towels and balled them up, looking for some holes where the birds had already started drilling through. When he found them, he stuffed the towels into the holes as tightly as he could fit them, hoping to create a fairly solid barrier between the outdoors and the indoors. A bird might be able to poke these towels back out with a little bit of effort, but the main goal at this point was to buy some time until the speakers were overloaded, right?

It was nice to know that Rob agreed with her. Still, he was more inclined to play the hero than she was, and in the end that was fine. She wasn’t interested in making a go of it on her own while he ran off to do whatever it was he was gonna do. When he voted for rescue, she shrugged and leaned into him.

If that was their choice, then so be it.

The group as a whole seemed torn both ways, but in the end, the decision was made, and to her preference even.

“Sorry.” She said as she leaned over to press a kiss to Rob’s cheek. “Guess we’re staying. Stick close, okay?”

She released him reluctantly to go with the others to take up positions and she drew her bow with a grim determination. Those ******** birds weren’t getting in here, and she was going to do everything she could to make sure of it.

Sidney sighted down an arrow and released it… only to watch it arc up and ping of one of the birds at an angle, apparently to no effect at all. She grimaced, making an annoyed hiss, and pulled another arrow from her quiver.

Mathilda decided to keep to herself as she lashed out at the birds. People around her seemed happy at the decision and it made her sick. Yes, she had killed people. Bad people. Men and women whose continued existence harmed the greater society. But this, this wasn't what she signed up for.
