Rodney lost track of Jan entirely. He unslung his bow from his shoulder, and tried to gently push the aggressive burst of wings and claws away from himself, but it didn't help.

He couldn't see. The claws caught him again.

He tried to watch his footing. That's what they did in the wild, didn't they? Golden eagles. Chased and threw people off cliffs. Was everyone else okay? Where....he took the arrow instead, pressing with that, and there was an indignant squawk, and a temporary clearing, and he looked up and saw Jan, not far off, waiting...

He stumbled towards him, and into the safety of the lodge.

Jan hated putting himself in harms way for other people. He really did. Altruism was not his thing at all, but when he was in a dangerous situation in a very hostile environment you couldn't overestimate the value of having someone else with you. Rodney had proven himself to be kind, clever and loyal thusfar and it was that loyalty that he needed most of all.

So he stayed, waiting as the other man stumbled, dodging hostile claws and wings to make sure he made it back to safety, that both of them made it back to safety at the same time.

Stumbling into the hotel he shook snow off of himself and shivered.

"Yes. Switzerland." he answered grimly. "And its bloody cold."

Hera's imaged was replaced, her hands- the ones that had guided him into flame- had transformed into claw and beak. Immediately, Isaiah lifted up his arms to protect his eyes and face and hair from the attack.

He cried out when a bird latched on and tore at his ear. He swung his spear out in a wide arc, hopefully spilling some blood. He did his best to move forward, through the snow and winged beasts.

Never before had Isaiah felt such a pure, wholehearted hatred for birds until this very moment. He swung his spear and yelled and did his best to stay as burrowed into his coat as he possibly could. He moved his legs through the thick snow, doing his best to travel across the very unfamiliar terrain. What good was being the Chosen of the god of sea when you were stuck on a mountain of ice?

Finally, he had found some purchase. He was moving quickly towards the fortified bit of the resort and slinging his spear through the birds as he went. He had found a rhythm, and he was sticking to it as best as he could. Wings beat at him, claws raked at him, beaks clamped down hard on whatever parts of him were exposed at the time.

Until, finally, he made it- breathing heavily and hunched over, blood dribbling down over his eye from a gash on his ********>" He murmured to himself.

After the initial cold shock there was no adjustment time. The air was cold, but worse than that, so filled with the sound of birds and the flapping of wings that it was very nearly deafening. As a few of the large things swooped, talons spread wide and curved beaks open and screaming, Ed had just an instant to regret that he hadn't pulled on his coat before walking through the flame, and spent a frenzied moment shuffling items around to do so now.

It wasn't pretty. It wasn't graceful, but he managed, somehow managing to move with the group as they descended, as one, out of the ruin and down the hill.

His hood fell back, what he considered the least of his worries, and the sharp dig of claws into his scalp reminded him painfully that he was wrong. Cursing, he hoisted it up again, moving just a little faster.

After the initial claws to the head, Edward wasn't taking any chances. He kept his pace, but as a second bird dove in his direction, he brought the war hammer up in a heavy, wicked curve to knock it right out of the sky and away from himself.

It gave him enough time slip through the doors, relatively untouched, to gather with the rest of the Chosen.

Birds. Oh, how he had underestimated them.

Zan had pictured an invasion of tiny, pecking menaces, and while this was an invasion, these things were not tiny. One of them immediately dove for his dominant hand, the one that was clutching the dagger, and he shouted, "Hey!" at it, an obvious cry in the relative silence. That was honestly the weirdest part, the quiet. Why weren't they shrieking and cawing?

He gave himself little time to ponder the answer to that as he started forward, pushing through the snow toward the hotel and motioning for any able-bodied stragglers to follow him if they were so inclined.

He couldn't have made it more than five feet from where he'd started before Zan took a glance behind him to see who had followed. A lone man was trudging in his wake, a burly guy at least a foot taller than he was. Why he had thought Zan decent protection from these things was beyond the Chosen, but he gave him a wave with his knife anyway, chuckling at the man's reaction. He stood as straight as he could and said in his best authoritative voice,

"Stay behind me if you want to live."

And then he burst into a snorty laugh that lasted until another bird lunged for him, landing a strike to the furry forearm of his coat.

It was more tiring than he would have thought, moving through foot-deep snow in heavy boots and a giant coat, but Zan persisted, cursing at the next bird that took a swipe at him. He couldn't seem to land a solid strike on any of them, and it was beginning to grate.

"So, what's your name?" he asked his own personal Sarah Connor.

"Jim," the man whispered, windmilling his arms as Zan's question attracted another handful of birds. "What's going on here?"

"It's a secret," Zan replied without hesitation. "Government stuff." He could only imagine what this guy must be thinking, what with a bunch of armed lunatics appearing out of the air to fight a skyful of metallic birds. The gods had better have an amnesia charm or two on tap or things were going to get complicated.

With his attention turned toward Jim, Zan didn't immediately realize he'd reached the hotel. The snow had been cleared a bit here, and as he stomped onto solid ground he lost his footing and fell to his knees.

"You saw nothing."

Jim nodded.

"Good. Now come inside. It's got to be safer than things are out here."

[ Sidney James - Bow (+15int, -3hp, 6dmg) - HP: (50 - 3) 47 ]

Sid didn't know what she had expected to see when she emerged on the other side of the fire. In all honesty, she would have been surprised at anything, but it was quite a shock to arrive not only in a fancy ski lodge that she had only seen the like of in pictures, but one that looked like a bomb had hit it. A bomb made of silent and seemingly very angry birds.

Suddenly, the world went from the calm safety of the compound to utter chaos and distracting motion that had Sid diving for the cover of one of the couches, shoving her back against it. Furniture was scattered about, people were shouting and running, further confusing the situation as it became a struggle to know what, exactly, was going on. Besides the obvious birds dive-bombing everyone... She fumbled clumsily for her bow as wings beat over her head and managed, only barely, to remember enough of her short training to get an arrow notched the right way.

There were shouts and thumping about behind her, but looking for the source meant abandoning her cover, and right now, she had enough to deal with as one of the mass of bird life took notice where she hid and swung around for a diving, darting attack. It was silent, save for the beating of its wings, and even more unnerving because of it. Didn't birds usually shriek when they attacked? If she'd needed more evidence these weren't natural birds... Well. There you go.

Sid squeaked as she jerked the bow string back and took aim, desperately trying to get everything aligned and remember all the things she had learned... and then she released and the string twanged as the arrow shot in a clean arc towards her attacker. To her shock, it pierced the beast straight through and it veered off course, disappearing back into the chaos.

Terrified, the short woman didn't wait for another to find her and made a break for the opening everyone else was streaming towards, ducking and dodging the airborne attackers as they went. Some of the people were not Chosen that Sid recognized and in a rare moment altruism, she made sure to put herself on the outside of them, so the civilians were surrounded by more of her kind.

The hotel seemed to be the place to go and Sid made for it as fast as she could tromp through the deep, powdery snow in boots that clomped about her feet.

There was a familiar and welcome face there and Sidney broke away from the group she had come with to head towards him, her surprisingly useful bow still clutched in her hand.

"Rob!"
