It was definitely being tired that had caused this bit of a tumble for her. Clearly she had not prepared enough for this course. She had just shown up and entered. Probably should have done some sort of warm up or something.

Trying to get up she ended up going for yet another tumble and splashed into some water. With a growl she picked herself up. At least glad the water had splashed her awake. Maybe it would keep her awake long enough to keep going.

5. Leaving the start was no issue, heck you figured you were going pretty strong. In fact, where did the other competitors go? Then you hear a sound similar to hooves beating a path. No. Those were hooves beating a path. Looking around you finally spot a grumpy looking Zebra who is about to get you. After some chasing you finally escape with a few bumps and bruises. Soon you find the markers and are back on track. [1 Point]

Halia dashed off as fast as she could. There was enough Wild Dogs here to make several large packs. She wasn't apart of any, and to be fair she was happy about that. She liked being alone. She was so caught up in her thoughts, she didn't realize she had charged right by an angry Zebra. It took her a while to get away from the beast, but she didn't escape unharmed. Thankfully, she wasn't hurt enough to dropout of the race.

2. Muscles scream as you kick off in a way that stuns the crowd! This was your proud moment - it looks as though you've practiced really hard for this event and you've got the attitude of a winner. Head in the clouds about entering the winners circle causes you to stumble a little. You catch your ground quickly though and are right back at it! [4 Points]

Halia huffed as she ran. She was getting tired and the race was harder then she had imagined. She wasn't prepared and she wasn't in shape to run the race. She ended up tripping over a branch and falling to the ground. She groaned a little as she got up and shook the mud off her body. She kicks off again, better then the first time. She wasn't about to loose. Her muscles screamed as she pushed herself further. The troubles she encountered were nothing. She was going to finish this race.

Shideezhi's hopes of winning this race seemed to be dwindling. She knew she still had some time before the finish line appeared but nothing seemed to be going her way! First she ran off the course and was chased by another zebra - or was it the same one? She didn't have time to try to check - and got a n** on her rump for her efforts, then in her attempts to get back on the course she tripped and ran into countless obstacles. Finally the zebra left her alone, but it didn't go far. She could hear it snorting and running behind her at a slower pace as it dealt with the same obstacles she faced. When she found the trail there were so many other wild dogs it was hard to see what was in the path and after nearly colliding with a tree branch she had to stop to catch her breath. She moved off the path a bit so others could get by her, but that zebra didn't let her rest for long. It chased her once again as she put on another burst of speed, high-tailing it out of there before it could n** her again.

Cŵn Annwn had managed to break away from the pack a bit to get some serious running done. He wasn't sure who lingered ahead of him, but he did know that looking over his shoulder would be a mistake. Having the way open to run helped him avoid other obstacles for a while. Soon others came up around him, causing him to almost hit a tree branch once more. This path was pretty dangerous! Some noises off the course caused him to lose his footing again and tossed him into a stream, but he grabbed a drink of water while he was pulling himself out of it. It seemed to rejuvenate him a bit as he bounded out of the water, shaking as he ran to rid himself of the extra weight, and took off down the path once more with water still trailing off his tail.

3. You've seen a couple of individuals falter from the start, it's just your luck that you seem to be near those who are having some trouble. It is also just your luck that there happened to be a branch in your path, hidden by some additional debris and you almost stumble. This startles you and you must take a quick breath before continuing. [2 Points]

She was extremely pleased she had been doing so well so far. Granted she wasn't in the lead or anything, but she also wasn't in last place. However, her mind must have thrown her off track because a number of things seemed to happen at once. She stumbled on a branch and thought she had recovered, only to slip on another one causing herself to crash into a wall. And then, when she finally had picked herself up was chased by a zebra. She gave a small huff and shook herself off. Things could be worse after all. Getting up she shook herself clean and found her way and continued on.

Minthe was wondering if she should have even entered into the race at this point but was continuing on anyway. She figured she might as well do what she can. Right? Stumbling on a stick she thought the worst was over, at least until she looked around fearing perhaps the zebra was back and stumbled into a stream. However she picked herself up and continued on and kept a positive outlook on the race and what was yet to come. She still had a distance to go so there was no sense in getting frustrated now.

Nalo was super excited! He'd heard about the races that were taking place in these lands from a random passerby as he was searching for breakfast one morning. So, not one to pass up something fun, Nalo had come to check things out. He'd been rather lonely living on his own.

So far, he thought that he was doing great! Running with others like this gave him a feeling of exhilaration and weightlessness. His paws hit the ground with a steady thud and his tongue flopped to the side of his mouth in the wind. The sun was shining brightly on the lands and this wild dog's day couldn't have gotten any better.

Things felt like they were going up. That last refreshing bit of water had caused her to be awake and ready to go. Strong legs kicked her forward as her muscled rippled under the fur. She was going to get this done. Or at least she thought she was going to has it until she started to notice that there was a lack of wild dogs about her. Instead there were zebra. Oh boy not again. She ducked and rolled out of the way of hooves once more. Dang though prey beasts. Go away. Shoo! Veering away from them she got back on the course and began making her way. Only to very nearly trip upon debris and branches. No way, do not let this make you stumble... thinking to herself.

There she was, taking off again. Guess that pet talk really helped out because now here she was starting to lead the pack. She had been so far behind, stumbling behind others and now here she was up at front with the rest of the big dogs. Always pep talk yourself. Grinning wildly she felt very sure of herself. Don't let it all go to your head, she tried to remind herself.

Warmpaws' spirits were rising as more of the race passed without mishap. There was a good chance she'd manage the rest of it safely! But as if summoned by that hopeful thought, there was a sudden pounding of hooves to one side, and an angry snort. Oh no!! She managed to put on the brakes in time to let the stampeding zebera (could it possibly be the exact same one?!) thunder past in front of her. However, her momentum wouldn't allow her to change her speed so dramatically without penalty. After those flailing hooves had gone by, the ended up rolling forward, nose over tail over nose, and bumping down a hillside, off the path. She landed with a grunt, but was up and scrambling to her paws almost instantly, darting along the base of the hill in an attempt to escape the further notice of the mad zebra. Did they have a better sense of smell than she was aware or something?!

Putte's scratches were bothering him less now that he had gotten a rhythm down, though his paws still were rather tender. He'd settled in behind a grey and white female that he'd been tailing for a bit now, content to just stay in that spot for a while as his paws recovered a bit. He'd put on a spurt of speed later... or so he hoped. It was a long race, after all, and he would be wise to conserve some energy.

However, he was too far back to do anything when he saw... wait, was that the same crazy zebra male that had come plunging after him earlier?! He gasped when the prey beast tried to run down the racer ahead, and he put on a burst of speed to check on where she'd gone. It was with relief that he saw her paralleling the track down below. He glanced warily over his shoulder to try to find the sneaky zebra, and as a consequence nearly missed the up-ended bush laying smack dab in the middle of the trail. With a lithe squirming mid-air, he managed to just brush past it, leaving him off-balance for several lengths after that. By the time he got his stride back, he'd lost track of zebra and the other competitor. Time to focus!

Warmpaws managed to scramble back up on the path, panting and sagging. This was taking a lot more out of her than she'd ever have imagined. In fact, she was starting to wonder if she was just going to have to call it quits and drop out of the race. She wasn't built for this sort of trial! She was a pup watcher, for heaven's sake! Fatigue and falling morale nearly caused her another tumble. She missed the sprawl of roots across the path, and her feet got tripped up. She stumbled and nearly planted her nose in the dirt, trying to regain her balance.

She took a moment to stop and stand still, sides heaving, ears drooping, tail hanging limp. This really was too much. She let herself take a few moments just to breathe, letting others pass her on the path, heedless of their urge to win. She just wanted to finish at this point! With a last swallow and a heavy heart, she set off again, trotting instead of loping, just hoping that she could manage the finish line.

Putte felt a prickle creep up his spine as he bounded along. It made his fur stand up and his ears flatten. With rolling eyes, he glanced back again... and saw what he feared he would. As had happened once before, the zebra that had been intent on the other wild dog had transferred his wrath to him. What exactly had that female dog done to this fellow to make him so terribly infuriated?! He bolted forwards, dodging around rocks and brush and hoping he might avoid those pummeling hooves. When he could no longer hear them behind him, he struck back towards the race's course. There most definitely needed to be a zebra hunt. Pronto. That one was a menace!!

Poor Warmpaws was faltering badly. Her muscles trembled, and her bruises were aching. She was certain she'd bear hoofprint shapes on her pelt for the rest of her days. This was probably why, when the trail dipped down to run through a little ravine with what once had been a waterfall but now was the merest trickle, she lost her footing. She tripped over something, whether it was a root or a branch or whatever, and went tumbling down the pathway. She managed to somehow ram into the rocks where the trickle oozed down, where she sprawled for a moment.

She lay there, muddy and spent, eyes closed as she attempted to gather herself. She wasn't the sort for this thing, she knew that now. Never again. Never, ever again. She'd take on the most rambunctious, misbehaving cubs that ever existed, rather than try to do this again. Please. Never again! Bravely though, she finally pulled herself to her feet and shook the moisture out of her face. Well, she was a right mess now, but that was the least of her worries. If she could just press on.... heavily, she plodded onwards before again accelerating into a trot. One paw in front of the other... she could make it... eventually.

Total Points: 14]

Putte was just glad to be back on the path. To be out of sight, smell, or hearing of any zebra. He prayed it would stay that way, squeezing his eyes shut a moment too long and missing where the trail got uneven. He didn't quite stumble, but he did stagger a few steps as his brain tried to catch up with where level ground was for his paws. With a gulp and another wary look backwards, he applied himself to paying attention to the trail again, seeming to make up some time as his tender paws finally seemed to ease up.

Warmpaws had about had it, no question. She felt like the earth was tipping, and that her paws were trying to hurry her along to catch up. When she tripped, bounced, and then landed in another vaguely muddy spot, she just sat there, mud dripping from her chin, her ears, her chest, and with tears running down her face. Was it terribly dishonorable to simply give up? She wasn't sure she could do anything but. She gave a great, gulping gasp, not even attempting to pull herself out of the puddle she was sprawled in.

Putte topped a hill at an easy pace, no longer pushing himself but still going at a good enough rate to feel he was getting somewhere. He had been doing good at keeping an eye on the pathway, but was suddenly distracted by an audible sob. His head and eyes jerked towards the sound, just in time to miss a sudden dip in the road. Caught unawares, he stumbled, caught himself, then stopped in his tracks, eyes still turned towards the sound.

There sat the pretty little female dog, looking as miserable as could be. She was covered in mud, both dry and wet, and looked so dejected that it broke his heart. And she was crying! He simply could not leave her in such a state. He padded over slowly, so as not to startle her. "Excuse me miss," he said softly, eyes searching for her gaze. "Are you okay?"

"No, I'm n-n-not," Warmpaws stuttered unhappily. "Th-th-that z-zebra k-k-k-keeps trying to hurt m-me, and I k-keep falling d-d-down." She sagged further. "I'm so very t-t-tired, I don't want to get up!" The last came out on a very mournful canine whine, and it cut Putte to the heart.

"Oh come now," he said, moving closer and nudging her shoulder gently. "You are stronger than you think. Look how far you've come, and how much you have endured!" He gave her muddy face a few encouraging licks, ignoring the grime. "That zebra hasn't caught you, and if you stop now, it means he'll win, even if he never comes back." He knew very well which zebra she meant! "Here... let's go on together. Maybe he'll leave us alone, if we stand together, eh?" He nudged her shoulder-to-shoulder, then stood up, tail wagging reassurance.

Warmpaws gazed at him dispiritedly, but he did have a point. Maybe it would be alright, if she had a companion. "But I'll have to go slow," she warned him, staggering to her paws. "I'm too tired to run."

"Then we'll just walk," he agreed, turning back towards the race's pathway. "Together."

Hidden debris. Oh there was a lot of that. Focusing he began to get ready for a sprint. A sprint that was having him pull ahead of everyone. Their tails getting behind him now as he was leading. Leading until... wait. Where did- The thought was cut short by a zebra. Always the zebra. Why were there so many on this course! Start again, get your head out of the clouds, at least he had hoped to until he was sprawled out on his belly. Oh this was terrible. Picking himself back up he began to trudge on, painfully.

Mchumba was leading the pack. She had started off on a bad paw and now things were looking up. Others were trailing behind her. No false steps now she hoped as she started to get into the rhythm of things. That's when he started to go downhill again. maybe it was her overconfidence but she faltered and landed right on her face. Seeing stars she shook herself until she was righted and began again. How had she not seen that branch there? Raring to go she sprinted. That sprint was enough to make her get ahead of the others. Ha! So much for that tumble!
