Trip to the TidesLily bristled under her shades at the mention of being a child, but she kept a stiff upper lip, leaning against Jamie. "She didn't say much. I didn't ask much, I thought I was dreaming when I woke up with a tail at four in the morning." Her face turned noticeably sour and she put a hand in her back pocket. "But she said I was a furry and I had to meditate to unfurry, gave me the information to get to Eve's place. Eve said we were all different, too."

Ocean TeaIt might've been more comforting in the moment to hear a lie, but with time that falsehood would've faded and left him feeling emptier than before. Despite the worry, Jamie was grateful to Eve for her honesty. That, and her gentle, affectionate touch. Just like he had come to love spending time in Equinox, he'd come to care for her and find legitimate happiness in knowing she had his back, even if they were all just a bit in the dark.
"You're right," he agreed. "I-I'm still scared, but... I wanna be there for everyone, too..."

I... kinda freaked out when it happened, so um, Lady spent more time trying to calm me down than answer questions..."
There was a slight tint of red to his cheeks when he admitted that, but he tried not to let it burn him too badly.
"But she told me... I'd still be me. And, um, I'd find you guys. She said she didn't know why this was happening to me, though..."

Trip to the TidesLucas' smile wavered, and then tightened, humorless. "Don't worry, Buttercup, I actually kicked her I was so terrified." He scoffed softly, almost a laugh. No regrets for it, now. He rubbed his good hand over his stubbled jaw, tired -- and a little angry. They were just kids. Why the hell would this were-thing take two disabled people and two kids? "Don't suppose you know anything about what's called...Other Ashdown?"

Trip to the TidesWell, at least he hadn't been the only one. Not that Jamie had gone as far as to kick Lady. Almost had a heart attack, though. Other than that, and almost crying, he'd barely been able to properly react.
"Other Ashdown?" Jamie glanced up a Lily as she answered, then somewhat skeptically back at Lucas. "What's that mean?"

"Other Ashdown is a parallel Ashdown where it always rains and - excuse the lack of sugar coating here - bad s**t happens. Nothing good has come from it, and it just -- assimilates whoever it wants." He would have liked to have tried for tact, but that kind of went out the window when their body parts started changing. "If you heard about the missing people, it's that place that's responsible. It's -- it's a long story, cliffnotes is there's a war and I'm not even sure there's a good side and we're about to be in the thick of it." His expression fell, lips pressed in a tight line. "I'd really rather we discuss this with Eve present, but I don't -- I really don't want you two in the dark."

We Need to TalkJamie was around the shop again one day, and when Eve approached him with his usual cup she thought how he was almost becoming a fixture of it. It was comforting to have someone in the Pack around so often, and when he and Autumn were around at the same time the place felt like a second home -- an atmosphere that had the power to draw in a few extra customers. "Hey, darling," she started, as she poured his tea. "Care to learn some Sign? I'm thinking it's a way we could communicate in Other Ashdown... even with the paws."

We Need to TalkThe atmosphere had Jamie in his own little world as it often did, the stress of the day melting off of him while he gazed unfocused at the wall and listened to the music and gently inhaled the scents around him. When Eve approached, his reaction was lazy and slow, but there was a small smile on his face anyway. Jamie felt at peace.
"Thanks, Eve." Taking the cup, he held it under his nose. This was absolutely his favorite blend. "Oh, um... that sounds neat." Setting the tea down to cool, he looked at his own hands. "I've never tried before..."
