That humming sounded stupidly familiar and distracted Cid from what he was doing.
Which was pretty much giving the Erwin Smith stink-eye towards Mercer and the professor. "It'll be fine," he said again distractedly towards Kally.
Where the hell had he heard that tune before? It was starting to bug him.

Jeremiah was inordinately pleased with himself, especially with the pink-tipped ears that Algie was now sporting for a few moments. He straightened back up, pushing the sunglasses that had slid down his nose back up, and frowned briefly where Algie was pointing.
No. Just. No. The detective shot Algie a look, mostly because he could not believe that him complimenting the other lead to having to point out that particular group of people.
Except they would have to go by that direction eventually and - what was that humming? Not paying attention to it for now. Probably someone on the mic.
If this was what happened when he decided to deliver cookies, Jeremiah might just have to not deliver cookies anymore. Except that vodka cookies definitely needed to get to Aleksy and even with the noise, Algie and himself were still heading that way. Never mind that Zac was also there ...
Nasir shook his head, trying to clear the humming from it. Clearly it wasn't the person on the mic but he couldn't discern where it was coming from.

His fingers were still closed around the fabric of Wil's shirt as he shot Lucas an amused look. "You can eat a pastry. I made them." Which meant that that were probably both healthy and tasty - as much as he could manage. Nasir tilted his hand towards the pastry Wil still held. "Go ahead," he smiled, "promise I won't beat you with the others I've got if you have that one."
Lucas glanced to Nasir as he heard his voice, but it almost seemed like a distance sound compared to that humming. Ironic, considering the hum was so soft he couldn't even discern it. Looking behind himself, he saw that others were also confused. He tensed, trying to watch the two in front of him while looking -- not easy, but he was uncomfortable with the sound.
He slowly took the pastry, but it was barely held between his fingers, as if one wrong jarred movement would set it free. "You -- made it? So you're a baker too?" The question was distracted, but not entirely rude, trying to manage a smile that mostly just made him look lost.

Kally knew this song, she thought. Her eyes brightened and she rocked from side to side in tempo with the tune.
"Fly to me, my long-lost starling," she sang, beneath her breath, her voice quite sweet even at such a low pitch. "You've spent long years in disarray..."

"Yes but sometimes I do burn things." Not that often but Nasir did. "I help out at Honey Pop! sometimes when the owner wants to have cakes up." His own smile was distracted as well, trying to place the music and then he looked over to Kally when he realized she was singing softly.
It wasn't her obviously because the humming seemed to be all around.

"Oh!" Cid visibly straightened up, Kally getting a wide-manic grin. This song! He knew he had known it! It had been sometime since he had lost thought of it but ...
He was humming again before he sang a little himself, the next couple lines coming to him. "Cease your empty tears and snarling," Cid voice that matched well with Kally's, "no more from your love I'll stray ~"
He wanted to say something, he really did, but Lucas felt his skin crawling as two voices joined in the sound, giving it words. Maybe it wasn't bad. Maybe it really was just a song, not a big deal, but Autumn's words were still raw in his mind. Why did people always give bad things words to play with?
Lucas turned his head and, seeing Cid singing with some strange girl hiding near him. He flicked his gaze towards Nasir, mouthing 'what the ******** class="quote">

Nasir was wrinkling his nose up at the fact that now Cid was singing as well. It was not so much that it was bad as it was unnerving him to no end. He glanced back towards Lucas and gave him a slight shrug.
He had no damn clue.
... and honestly that Cid knew some song that was starting to come across as creepy? Not surprising considering the site he ran that was dedicated to all things spoopy and spooky in Ashdown.
Which he may have tried to convey with a look. Who knew.
Nasir and his friend both looked uncomfortable. Kally clammed up, and looked away, the bag of treats Nasir had handed her just a few minutes ago tucked away inside her jacket, and looked away.

When Kally stopped, Cid blinked and stopped himself. Then looked over his shoulder towards Lucas and Nasir. The humming still continued, still that sweet soft sound. It was quite pretty, just like the song.
He shot both Nasir and Lucas a look. Don't make my employee feel bad, it said. Not that Kally needed any backing up. She could lift Cid up if she wanted.
Zac's slight frown deepened as he cast eyes towards the microphone, and failed to find anyone that seemed to be a visible source of the sound. Anxiety prickled over his skin and he bit hard at his lip. He was pretty sure Jer and Alg had planned to come here... they might look into things too. Another thought flitted through his mind and he frowned slightly. A cautious movement just to look a little further.

Well. She wouldn't bother alesky anymore here, since they had plans to touch base later. Autumn offered him a smile and a goodbye, turning to leave and investigate when... There was a buzzing. Almost like a song. She blinked, making sure she wasn't imagining it.
But no. It had to be real, others were reacting. So cautiously, she followed after, intent on discovering what it was.
He passed a few people who were actually singing along, and even though their more normal, human voices grounded the eerie humming, it still wasn't an entirely comfortable combination of sounds as far as he was concerned. Chester debated fleeing the area completely, only sticking around out of sheer stubborn determination. You didn't ******** with his festival time. You just didn't.
Shoving his hands in his coat pockets and shaving several inches off of his considerable height through an impressive display of shoulder hunching, the young man continued moving. While he hoped he might lose interest soon—when the humming stopped... maybe... please?—he could swear it only grew louder as he shuffled forward.

Wil didn't know the song but it was nice and he could follow the tune. He was no stranger to music, a singer with a decent voice when no one but Nasir was around (and maybe sometimes open mics at Darlene's), but like everything he did it was handled noncommittally.
Nasir's discomfort was a bit obvious and Wil's fingers sneaked out to find the other young man's, tangling and squeezing reassuringly.
It was just singing, right?
Even Lucas was given a comforting smile, though he didn't know if it would help.
Kally and Cid knew the song so it wasn't totally strange.... right?
The look Lucas gave Cid was every bit as baffled as the one he'd given the girl. How did he get in trouble for something he didn't do?! His expression hardened just a little - hurting imaginary feelings of a singing girl who was hiding was not something he cared much for - turning to look back at Nasir and Wil, who seemed a bit closer for sake of comfort.
"Uh -- hey, look, thanks for the reading and the pastry, I'm gonna -- I'm gonna try and see if I can't figure out what that sound is." He flashed them an apologetic smile. "It's probably nothing, but, old habits die hard." Lucas lifted his pastry-free hand to wave to them. "Thanks for the treat, I'll uh, stop by on my way out to see how you guys are faring. Good luck with the readings."
He departed the booths and resumed moving along with the river of people, glancing at a hunched over guy on a mission. Even if the sound was nothing, he sure as hell wasn't going to stick around and endure it the entire time he was there --
"Princess!" he half called, half blurted as his eyes fell upon the woman he'd been thinking of mere moments before. She looked...bothered. Trotting up to Autumn, he briefly touched her elbow in greeting. "You okay?" Focusing on someone else's discomfort was much easier than his own. Lifting the baked good he was holding, he offered. "Pastry?"
