Luna listened to Kam's reply, her fury igniting again when he said that he had loved Gurzil more than she did. She barely managed to hold herself back from starting another round of torture right there. When Kam finished speaking, Luna showed him something that only Gurzil had ever seen from her. She became completely serious in a way that no one else knew she could, all traces of her childish personality vanishing as she seemed to have a moment where her sanity returned. "I understand your feelings toward me, but don't ever think that you could love him more than I could," she said, her voice flat and hollow. "No one else ever could. If you think that you could, then you know very little. Gurzil was my other half. He and I were together long before your family line started. Do you think your few centuries at his feet could compare to what we had? Do you think the death of the one who held your Heart could compare to the loss of the one who set me free from the person I used to be, the only one who could ever make me feel more than hollow and broken?" She got up for a moment and moved over to pick up her discarded pants. She retrieved something and then turned around to toss a golden knife at his feet. She pulled his Heart from around her neck and sat it on a nearby table. "If you want to die to go join him, do it. I want to be with him again, but I have things to do. Someone has to finish his work."She sat down in her chair again, slipping back to her usual self as she watched him. "What'll it be, Kammy? I'm gonna do what Gurzy wanted and use this army of his. What'll you do? You gonna go be with him and tell him that you didn't wanna finish his plans? Or are you gonna help me? If you stay, I can even get somebody to help with your scars. You get to pick this time, Kammy." She had slipped back to being her usual self, but Kam would be able to see just how sad and alone she was feeling now. She had spent plenty of time by herself after getting with Gurzil, but she had always been able to go back to Gurzil when she got bored of being by herself. With Gurzil dead now, Luna was really alone. She and Claire had done everything possible to avoid each other, so she didn't have anyone else. It was the real reason that she had been so insistent on keeping Kam around.

Kam watched her in silence before slowly and carefully collecting his Heart and sliding it over his own head. Next, he collected the dagger she’d thrown at his feet, hissing as the metal burned his hand but not letting go of it. He considered her carefully for a long and silent moment then offered a hand to help her to her feet. Once she was standing in front of him, he tucked her hair behind her ear again then let his flames dance lightly over her body to dress her in something he thought Gurzil would have approved of happily. He kept the dagger in his other hand and silently walked her back to Gurzil’s rooms. Once there, he dropped the dagger on a side table then led her over to the bathing area, silently hoping that she’d like the rooms he’d designed for Gurzil. He ran her a soothing bath and helped her into the water then silently set to treating her like the queen she would have been to Gurzil’s king. Kam pampered her: he bathed her, dried her, gave her a soothing and relaxing oil massage, saw to it that she ate the last of the ‘choice cuts’ he’d been saving for Gurzil… Finally, he led her to the round bed Gurzil had insisted on and laid next to her while he ran his fingers through her hair and over her back over and over before he did something for her that he’d never done for Gurzil: He sang for her… Softly at first, the words coming slowly and hesitantly before they gained confidence and swelled with the simple soothing power of the lullaby he was singing just for her. Once the lullaby trailed off into silence, he leaned over and placed a light kiss to her head, “I’ll stay, Luna… But I do it of my choice this time… Now rest… You haven’t slept since he died and you need sleep if you’re to carry out his plans…” he whispered to her softly but didn’t move to leave just yet.

Luna watched Kam as he took his Heart back and then picked up the dagger. She took his hand and stood up, her face still a blank mask. She allowed him to walk her to Gurzil's room and stood quietly for a bit as he ran the bath. She was silent as he pampered her, her face never changing from that blank expression. She finally started to react when he laid down in the bed with her and started to sing. She buried her face in his chest and cried, finally starting to really break down over the loss of the only person that had ever made her feel complete. When the lullaby ended and Kam said that he would stay, she finally smiled again. "Thanks, Kammy," she said. She hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "I'm sorry I was so bad to you, Kammy. I was so mad about losing Gurzy. Not just at you, but at me and her. I hurt myself a lot, too. But I hurt you worse because I couldn't hurt her. Hurting her would've been against the rules. I can still get someone to help with your scars, though." Most people wouldn't have been able to figure out who Luna was talking about when she just kept saying 'her', but Kam would probably be able to figure out that Luna was talking about Shadow. Shadow had been the one to rip out Gurzil's heart, so it made sense that Luna would be angry with her. But regardless of how powerful she was, Shadow was still just a little girl. Gurzil and Luna had always had strong rules against hurting children, so there was no way that Luna could have brought herself to hurt Shadow. So in order to work out that rage, she had taken it out on Kam.

“Shhh….” Kam hushed her softly after she’d cried her tears out. He’d understood why she wouldn’t have hurt Shadow since Gurzil had long ago explained his stance on children. It was one of the reasons that Gurzil had liked Esabel so much, he guessed. She and Luna were so much alike… “Sleep now, Luna… We can work the rest of it out after you get some sleep…” he told her softly and continued his soothing motions through her hair and down her back. Before anything could be decided or anything else done, she had to have some sleep. He considered staying while she slept but knew that he had to get himself cleaned up and dressed. He could take the time while she was asleep for that then be waiting here when she woke up again. As he worked at soothing her into sleep he did his best not to think about much. If he thought about much then he was going to go even more insane than she was. So thinking was out for now. Instead, he concentrated on trying to get her to sleep. He mentally asked Clair if she’d watch over Luna while she was asleep so that he could get himself cleaned up and wasn’t too surprised when she simply agreed. Luna finally went out and he eased himself from the bed and headed for the door to the suite and opened it. He ignored Claire’s shocked look at his scarred appearance and turned to look back at Luna, “Just make sure that she’s not left alone. I’ll be back after I get cleaned up and dressed,” he said simply then moved on back to his own rooms. He passed the playroom he’d had installed, using a touch of magic to seal the room as he passed it and headed for the shower. This time, he actually got cleaned up then oiled his skin to keep it from stretching too badly before he headed to get dressed. On a whim he chose a pair of black leather pants and a matching vest but didn’t bother with anything else, just keeping his Heart around his neck. He ran a hand through his wet hair and dried it with a thought before he headed back to Gurz--- Luna’s rooms… Once he entered he ignored all of Claire’s looks at his ruined beauty and all hints of sympathy from her. Instead, he concentrated on Luna, “See about finding that girl, Claire. I want her. As soon as you can. While you’re at it, see about sending a message to the Re base asking Esabel if she’d like to pay a visit… I think it’s time that she and Luna met,” he told her simply, keeping his voice soft so that he didn’t disturb Luna’s sleep. He finally turned to Claire and gave her the full weight of his eyes, eyes that now showed nothing to anyone about his own mental state, “How long did she have me? I’ve lost track of time along the way,” he asked her, suddenly needing to know and not realizing that Luna had tortured him for over three months… How much longer than that, there was no telling since all sense of time had faded at the City…

Claire Claire looked incredibly bored when Kam came back into the room. She and Luna clearly didn't like each other at all. She let out a quiet laugh when Kam told her to see about finding Shadow. "I don't have to find the girl," she said. "She's a psychic on a level beyond anything I've ever seen before. It isn't exactly a challenge to sense her. From what I feel, I'd say she's at the Sandman base. As for sending a message to the Re base, I'm not sure that's the best idea. They aren't exactly our biggest fans." She frowned when Kam asked her how long Luna had been torturing him. She shook her head. "I don't think that it's a good idea to ask that question, Kam." She caught the look in his eyes and sighed softly. "Fine. We lost track of the time after a while, but I know for sure that it went on for more than three months."
She took a deep breath. "I have an idea. Why don't I pop in and see what that girl is doing? I've got a few contracts at the Sandman base, and all of them say that I can 'borrow' their bodies for a bit to take a look around. I can check in on her and see what's going on. And if she's alone, I can have my puppet grab her and move her somewhere for us so we can go pick her up. How does that sound?"

Kam gave a simple nod to her, “Do it. And send the message to Esabel anyway. Send someone expendable to do it, though,” he added then focused on Luna as she slept. But as he watched Luna, something else teased at his mind. “Claire… I need to know instantly if you catch any unusual comments from the girl. Now go,” he added then dismissed her from his mind, already erecting the needed barriers to keep her from digging for what he had planned. The fewer that knew that, the better for all concerned… She could still get a message to him but she just couldn’t go digging around… He ignored the issue of how long he’d been tortured. He’d already guessed at least three months from the level of damage to his body. He didn’t pay any attention when the door opened and closed. Instead he moved to sit on the bed beside Luna and gently moved a lock of her hair out of her face then lightly trailed a finger down the side of her face. His face showed nothing of what he’d been thinking and nothing of what he was feeling. Luna had spoken of fixing his scarring but he wasn’t sure if he wanted that done. It was a visible sign of his failure to protect Gurzil. Right?

Claire Kam wasn't left alone with Luna for too long. Claire came barging into the room again, clearly not very happy about whatever had happened to her. "I took a look at the girl for you, Kam," she said. "And you should be thrilled to know that she was asleep in her room with none of the pack members around. So no unusual comments from her. But she wasn't by herself. She made a fun little projection to greet me. One that killed the person whose body I was using. She literally outclassed me as a psychic in her sleep." She scowled and then moved over to pick up a piece of paper and a pen. She quickly wrote something on the paper and then registered what the message really said. She turned toward Kam again. "By the way, that projection I mentioned was really unexpected. He carved a message into my puppet's chest and used a mirror so that I could read it. I think it's for you, though." She stared at the message she had written on the paper. It was in the demonic language, so it had taken her a moment to be able to figure out what it said. She took a deep breath and looked him in the eye. "It's a really simple message. All it said was 'All Aboard'."

Kam grinned at the message, “Use another contract and collect the girl now. Do whatever is required to collect her,” he told her very firmly, “I expected something like this was possible… Bring their new daughter home…” he added then held out one hand and brought up a vial with a flash of fire, “Dose her with that when you get her. It will keep her from being able to react until things can be taken care of,” he finished and passed off the vial then took the page from her and waved her off without actually explaining anything to her. Once she was gone, he sat back down on the bed and looked at Luna with a twist of his lips, “Everything is now in place… ‘All aboard’ it is…” he said in a soft whisper before he leaned down to place a light kiss to her temple, “You should have killed me when you had the chance…” he said, his voice almost non-existent, “But since you didn’t… I’ll take care of you Luna… Just… Maybe not in the way you were expecting…” he finished then placed another light kiss to her temple before he pulled back to simply watch her sleep. Now that he was cleaned up, the evidence of his torture was even more clear. The new scarring was still red and angry looking, but he was healed and functional. He gave her cheek one last caress then got to his feet and moved into the private kitchen to prepare something for her to eat when she woke up. Three months… He’d lost at least three months while she used a golden dagger to carve his body to shreds… She’d tortured him because she couldn’t do it to the girl… He’d given his word once. He’d take care of her. But he had a few other things to do for that. Things that no one else would have expected…

Claire Claire returned to Luna's room to see Kam once again. "I haven't had any luck with getting the girl," she said. "That projection of Gurzil has killed two more of my contracts. I only have one left in the Sandman base, and he's made it very clear that he won't let anyone near her. So if we don't want to lose our last chance of getting her quietly, we need to come up with some kind of plan that's better than just walking in there and taking her." She held out a piece of paper and a pen for Kam to take. "I'm thinking that sending a message back will probably be our best shot. If we can send the right message, we may be able to get the projection to stand down. Even if the girl doesn't like us, that projection clearly has a mind of its own. And since that mind happen's to be Gurzil's, I need you to come up with the message. You and Luna are the one's who knew him best, but I trust you a lot more to not completely screw things up."

Kam gave an exasperated sound as Claire came back in but took the paper and pen anyway and put something down on it then handed it back. Admittedly, she could only read part of the message but he knew that Gurzil would understand it easily, “Give him that message. Exactly as I’ve written it down,” he told her harshly then forcibly moved her out of the suite and locked the door. He went back to the food he was making and worked out his anger on that as he finished it up, plated it, and moved it over to the small table beside the bed. He didn’t sit back down, though. Instead, he moved over to the windows and shifted the curtain slightly to look outside, grateful that they overlooked Gurzil’s city instead of the rest of this place. Yet again, he was wishing they were back home in Hells Cradle, back in Gurzil’s home, on Gurzil’s land… Back where his Master was… Well… Whole… He turned back to consider Luna again for a moment before heading for the door. He could feel the skin on his back tightening and needed to oil it again. Maybe he could find an expendable servant to do it…

Shadow appeared in the fortress near Kam. She was gripping her head, her mind still a bit scrambled from Egan forcing her out of the pack bond. Gurzil flickered into existence behind in front of her and took a moment to check on her before turning his attention to Kam and giving him a familiar Cheshire grin. Shadow managed to recover after a few moments and looked up to Kam. "I got your message," she said. "I was a bit confused at first because I could read a super rare language I had never seen before, but Gurzil told me that I could read it because of him." What Shadow had said wouldn't mean much to many more people, but it would definitely tell Kam that Shadow had absorbed Gurzil's consciousness. She wouldn't have access to all of his memories right now, but she was able to create a truly perfect projection of Gurzil. Shadow shook her head to try to get a few random images to go away. "Why did you want me to come here? I thought you would hate me for what I did to Gurzil, especially because of what Luna did to you after. I know that she hurt you a lot because of me. Gurzil told me that she would probably be hurting you a lot more because hurting me is against your rules. I killed your Master and caused his wife to hurt and scar you. Why would you ever want me to come here?" Shadow was an extremely intelligent young girl, but she was extremely confused by Kam's desire to get her to come to the fortress. She had been surprised to see the message that Kam had sent for her, a message that had said for her to "come home." She didn't understand why Kam would want to see her after the pain she had caused for him.

Kam got to his feet and moved over to her then gently tucked a stray lock of her hair behind one ear as he met her eyes, a small hint of a smile dancing around his lips, “I wanted you here because my master did. Yes, there were times that I wanted to hate you for killing him and causing me so much pain. I will admit to that, little one. But I can’t hate you. Some part of my master still lives in your mind and that earns you a great deal. But you are also one of the last things that he wanted: a daughter of his heart. He never had children because Luna could never have them. At the time, it was probably for the best. But there was something about you that pulled at him. So yes, I asked you to come here, to come home. I cannot hate you, Shadow; not even with the scars still pulling tightly enough to hurt with every movement I make. I can never hate you,” he told her softly as he stood in front of her with the projection of Gurzil standing behind her with that so-familiar grin of his. He considered for a moment then decided to offer her something and knelt in front of her with Luna beginning to stir behind him, “I know that he will have explained what this is, but I want to offer you something. It isn’t the real deal. Just a replica, a copy. But I hope that it will show you that I am serious,” he added then slid a delicate chain of HellGold around her neck with a replica of his Heart attached to it. It would still give the impression of his heartbeat and tell her whenever he was lying to her, but he was still keeping his real Heart out of sight for now. He didn’t want Luna to have it, though he wasn’t certain why. Besides, he knew it would irk Luna a bit to see Shadow wearing the heart, even if it wasn’t the real one. He turned his head slightly as Luna gave a soft sound as she started to wake then looked back at Shadow with a small teasing smile as he held a finger to his lips before moving back to the bed. “Luna… I have a surprise to show you…” he taunted her softly. No, he still wasn’t certain about serving Luna, but he would do it because he really didn’t have much choice. While he couldn’t hate Shadow, he could hate Luna for what she’d done to him… He wouldn’t show it, but he could still feel it…

Shadow listened to Kam's explanation about why he wanted her there and frowned a bit. "I really regret killing him," she stated quietly. "I did it to protect my aunt Blade, but I didn't really mean to do it. It just kind of happened. I really regret letting my aunt Blade out." The ground started to shake as Shadow's anger started to return. "I killed Gurzil to help her, but she showed up and murdered my mommy. I should have just let Gurzil do what he wanted with her." Her hand moved up to touch the replica of Kam's Heart as she watched Luna. She wasn't sure how she should be feeling about everything that was going on right now. She knew that Luna and Kam weren't exactly good people, but Gurzil kept telling her that she belonged here, that this was the best place for her to be. Luna sat up and rubbed her eyes when she heard Kam say something about a surprise. "What is is Kammy?" she asked. She blinked a few times as she noticed that someone was near Kam. She let out a squeal of delight when she saw that it was Shadow. She was up in moments and hugging the young girl. "I'm so happy that you came back, sweetie!" She saw the replica of Kam's heart around Shadow's neck and pouted a bit. "No fair, Kammy. I wants one, too. The real one." She released Shadow and moved to examine Kam. "Still not sure if ya wanna get your scars healed up, Kammy? Take your time and tell me if you wanna get fixed up. But for now, let's get Shadow something to eat. We gotta make sure that she's loved and taken care of here. I wanna make sure that she feels like she's home now."

Dameon Black Editing this one a bit to add in a little more details. Kam simply turned to the table with a small smile, “I already prepared a meal, Luna,” he told her simply as another replica appeared around her neck. The only thing was that his replicas were so realistic that it was hard to tell the difference between them and the real deal. Luna would get what she thought she wanted and he was protected at the same time. He walked over to the table and adjusted one or two things then gestured to the seats with a bit of a flourish that Gurzil would remember very well. The meal was laid out beautifully and cooked to perfection. It was also perfectly appropriate for both females. For Shadow, a bowl of baked apples heavy with cinnamon and nutmeg and a glass of sweetened and warmed milk. For Luna, some of his Master's 'choice cuts' perfectly simmered in alight ginger sauce; it was one of Gurzil's favorite recipes; and a light rose wine to go with it. He stood back up and pulled out the chairs for them, “As for my scars… For now, they’re a sign of my failure. A failure that I won’t be repeating,” he told Luna simply then offered Shadow a teasing wink. “For now, enjoy the meal and get to know one another. I’ll go and prepare a few things for our new little princess,” he added softly, knowing that one of them would know that he was planning on preparing for clothing and a suite of rooms for Shadow, "While I'm gone, maybe you can consider whether or not you want a new name. You're old enough to claim a name of your own under Demonic Law. If you allow Luna to officially adopt you, you'll be treated to the status of a true princess, after all. I've had three names in my life, for instance. Just think about," he told Shadow, giving her an option that Wind would have freaked over. He left the suite and rounded up a group of appropriate servants/slaves to set up a separate suite of rooms for Shadow along with a full wardrobe for her physical body and another wardrobe for her adult projection. As a half Incubus, he had the ability to answer to a person's desires, just as Ash could. So setting up the suite for Shadow was an easy thing for him, despite the time it took to complete it all. But he would do anything to answer to his Master's wishes. He'd failed Gurzil in the worst way possible and it broke his heart in ways that he still didn't understand. There were moments that he wished that Luna had killed him. But overall, he was determined to give Gurzil what he'd wanted at the end: Luna's happiness, Shadow as a daughter, and world conquest. So he'd do just that...

Shadow listened to what Kam had to say and thought about whether or not she would take on a new name. "I don't know what kind of name I would change to," she said quietly. "But I don't want my current name anymore. I was named ShadowBlade after my aunt, and I want nothing to do with her right now. She killed my mommy. I was named after her as a way to honor her, but I hate her. Her name is a curse on me, and I refuse to keep it." Shadow knew that Wind would be horrified by the idea of her changing her name, but she was just so angry. She had been given the name as a way to honor Blade's memory, but all she saw it as now was a reminder of the one who had taken her mother from her. She saw no reason to honor the woman who had left Bethany as a shredded, bloody corpse, and she felt that throwing away the name would be the perfect way to spite her. All she needed to do was figure out what she wanted her new name to be. Luna thought about what Shadow said and grinned. "Don't worry, Sweetie," she said. "I'm sure Kammy would be happy to help you with your new name. But what do you think of the other thing Kammy said? Do you want me to adopt you? I've always wanted to be a mommy, and you're exactly the kind of little girl I wanted to have." Shadow was silent as she thought about it for a bit. "I'll think about it and let you know after we eat," she said. She was quiet as they ate, though she could tell just how excited Luna was to have her there. Luna was babbling about how much fun they would have together, actually managing to draw a few smiles and laughs out of Shadow. And while they ate, Gurzil whispered to Shadow about how great in would be if she allowed Luna to adopt her. By the time they finished, he had managed to make her think that it would be the best option. "I think letting you adopt me would be a great idea. But I want my new name before we do it. Can you help me?" Luna squealed in excitement and called for Kam to come back. "We'll wait for Kammy to get back and have him help us with getting you a new name. And he can be here to witness the adoption ceremony!" Luna was so excited that Shadow wanted to be adopted, something that Kam would be able to see written all over her face when he got back.
