Today I learned that... Username: Deejaye Topic: tea production What's so interesting about that? Tea is grown on some big huge plantations in like 30 different countries, but the top dogs are China, India, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. Tea is usually handpicked because tea leaves tend to scream because they're fragile babbus to be picked by those COLD HEARTLESS MACHINES. Tea is usually harvest in early spring because I guess that's when they wake up from their long hibernation in winter as well as in summer because it's so hot that they're practically begging to be pulled out. After they're picked, they're brought to a factory that's located on the plantation because EFFICIENCY (...and also because oxidation. and if you don't know what oxidation is, that's when you're like 'i wanna eat dis apple in an hour' and when you look at it, it's like BROWN. so think like that, but with screaming tea leaves.) Today I learned that... Username: Kyrieko Topic: Tea Ceremony What's so interesting about that? That it is such a formal and ritualistic part of the Japanese culture! It’s not just about drinking the tea, but how you set it up. Prepare it for your guests. Serve it. And even how you enjoy it! It’s such an artistic daily event. But I was very surprised to learn it lasts about 4 hours. That is a lot of time drinking tea! I also was not aware that it was only green tea that is typically served. Prize preferences: Black and red koi otter, Silver koi otter, Gold koi otter, re-roll <3

Today I learned that... Username: Kyrieko Topic: Geishas What's so interesting about that? The first Geishas were actually men, instead of women! They would dance in bars, restaurants, and even tearooms for their clients, much like their female counterparts. As for the females, the fact that they are so popularly thought of as prostitutes but in reality, they aren’t. They are trained in the art of entertainment specifically geared towards men, which tends to make people think of a prostitute. Geishas do become courtesans, but there real art is still in dancing and entertaining their male clients. Prize preferences: Black and red koi otter, Silver koi otter, Gold koi otter, re-roll <3

There are teas that are made with things other than tea leaves as well. One such tea is Saenggang cha this tea is made from ginger root. The skin is left on the ginger and it is chopped and stored with honey. Once it has been stored for an amount of time all that is required is mixing the mixture with hot water to produce tea. This tea has been used for generations to help prevent the common cold and to help heat the body up when sick/cold. Prize preferences: 1 4 3 2 5

Today I learned that... Username: Calixita Topic: Tea Farming What's so interesting about that? If left unattended, tea bushes actually have the ability to grow into trees! They could grow up to 12 meters high, but they are trimmed down once they reach waist-high to about 1 meter. This is because it's easier to harvest the leaves at knee-height. They can also grow small sized fruits which contain seeds, but usually these aren't allowed to grow as they don't have a use in tea farming. Prize preferences:

Today I learned that... Username: Calixita Topic: Green Tea What's so interesting about that? There are many different types of Green Tea depending on the way the tea leaves are processed and brewed. One of these is known as Gyokuro, or Jade Dew, which originates from Japan. Instead of being grown under the sun, the Gyokuro is grown in the shade for about twenty days. The Shokyaku is the first guest, or the guest of honor; the Jikyaku is the second guest, and the remaining guests are referred to as Kyaku, while the final guest is called the Tsume. While the Shokyak is the honored guest, they must still speak respectfully to the Teishu, who is acting as the host of the ceremony.
