The scale she'd attached to a bracelet began to glow, and instead of their usual pink her arrows were alight with blueish green flames.

"Sorry if I have a stomach the size of a bird's," he said with a shrug as he found the familiar ladder leading to the extra familiar room down below. At least he was a little calmer about the height this time.
"I'd be down to make some pizza. Well, if I'm allowed to be part of the process," he added with a scoff at himself.

"I like it when you cook with me." This was nice. Idle conversation to keep her mind off the impending hands or mirrors or whatever the hell else was going to separate them again.
She tapped her chin. "We might actually have some of those kind where you toss 'em in the oven. Even less work," she teased, pulling one of his arms closer before stalking a bit farther ahead to the staircase.

"Really?" He was pleasantly surprised, even though he probably shouldn't have been. "I'll try not to—"
It was just a glimpse too long in a passing mirror, one second of distraction. He saw himself, the scar at his neck blackened and his skin peeling away, eyes burning completely green, weapon bared at some unknown enemy. Something was whispering over and over: Justkillmejustkillmejustkillme—
"—I'll try not to burn it or something," he managed, frowning at himself as he forced his gaze forward again.

He was beset with several more images of torn apart as they passed through the hall, just out of the corner of his eyes. The whispers stopped abruptly: despite having its request granted, there was a lingering malevolence he felt emanating off those glass panes, bitterness that friends would do that to him.
Jack didn't realize he was squeezing Chel's arm until they reached the staircase. Casually he let it go and said, "Ready for some cardio?"

"Yeah really. S'always good havin' a second set of hands." She kept her eyes on him as he approached, both looking for danger, and watching keenly as he peered into some mirrors on the side of the stairs.
Once he let go of her arm, Chel pulled him back for a moment, forcing him closer for a moment. I'm here and so are you. "You're the one who's gotta go to the gym more."
Then she took a step up the stairs, staring at all of the traps laid out on it and wary to stay towards the center this time. She dodged glass and steps on caltops (her boots normally crushed metal, but maybe they were getting a little old and it was time to get new ones?).
