That was her signal. As Motes climbed up onto the stone, Half Truth hopped onto the eastern stone, then hopped off quickly.

Rolling Mist trotted in a little circle after his landing but the sound of protest brought him to a swift halt, eyes widening a bit in surprise. What? Where did he come from? Not wanting to cause any trouble he lowered his head for a moment in apology. He truthfully hadn't seen the other buck approaching from his original position on the other side of the stone. Thankfully he hadn't landed on the male. What a mess that would have been. Raising his gaze to watch the two kin working the stones he cocked his head, trying to figure out what they were doing.

thyPOPE Soothe nodded, glad to follow in these footsteps, at least. She stepped, briefly, off the crane stone, and then back onto it again. When she steps onto the stone, the glow from the Obelisk brightens once more. Perhaps they have figured it out. I K i n u I Moving carefully backwards the ghostly male breaks into a sprint. As he gets closer, and with a good bit of power behind pushing off the ground, he sails clean over the stone. When he turns to look at the Obelisk, he has a second to think that he might have affected it, but there is no change. The glow remains steady. Kitty Sprightt Motes clambered onto the northmost stone. The moment that he steps onto the stone, the Obelisk brightens and he has a chance to feel excited. Scaramouche Fandango As Motes climbed up onto the stone, Half Truth hopped onto the eastern stone, then hopped off quickly. But as quickly as the glow brightens, when Half Truth hops atop the eastern stone, the glow fades, first quickly then slowly until it is as if they had done nothing at all.

Half Truth stamped a hoof in frustration. "Looks like I had it wrong- can we try it again, Motes?" she called from across the way. "You two work those stones, and I'll run around to the other one- the one I thought was an eagle."

"Sounds good to me," said Soothe, shrugging. It wasn't like she was going to leave on her own, and it didn't look like Longstride would leave without figuring it out. She liked the idea of helping, anyway. Carefully she stepped off her 'crane' stone, and back onto it again."By the way," she added. "Did I catch your names? I'm Soothe..."

For a second, the young storyteller's hopes rose as the obelisk brightened, brightened - but they dipped down again as it dimmed once more. Motes groaned and slid down off the stone, and waited for - Soothe? what a cute name - to hop back up on her stone, then scrambled back onto his."Uhhh, Motes-In-Moonlight!" he called to Soothe across the way. "Motes is alright though!"
Sheepishly, he turned to the grey buck again, too. "And, um," he mumbled, "It's uh, it's alright. I should've watched where I was going, too. Sorry. Too engrossed."[[ok it's four in the morning, I give, I'm going to bed! I'll deal with this wacky puzzle stuff tomorrow. Later today. Whatever. If this attempt doesn't work, assume motes is trying to read Rolling Mist's name. if it does work, assume he's gaping in awe of the results, unless that would put his life in danger, in which case assume he's running for dear life in a highly comical fashion. I think that covers all my bases for now!]]

"Name's Half Truth," she said, nodding at Soothe. "I wish we could have met under circumstances that didn't involve this... thing... but maybe we're a little closer to... something. Whatever it is we're doing with it." She stepped on the southwest stone, then raced back to the eastern stone to activate it. "If we're right about this, one of these two has to be the sand dog- I'm dead certain that last one's a bat. But hey, I was wrong about the eagle- so we'll see what happens." She was tense, almost manic- the feeling of dread was slowly being replaced with a feeling of challenge, a sense that this thing could be beaten. Of course, whether or not "beaten" was the right word... well, that was up for debate. Wildly, she cast around, hoping to see a change in... something. Her eyes landed on a grey buck over by the north stone. "Hey! You!" she called. "You, grey fella- over by Motes! Want to help us touch some rocks?" thyPOPE doesn't want a double notification neither does Kitty Sprightt

Rolling Mist continued to watch the other kin working the stones, waiting for his chance to help should they need him. As Motes apologized for earlier Mist shook his head frantically, trying to convey that he was at fault. He should have looked before he leapt, literally. Though he was grateful there was no bad blood over it. Relief caused him to sigh a little and he smiled.
Hearing the voice of Half Truth his ears perked up suddenly and his head swiveled to spy who had called him. Hearing the request his smile brightened even more and he nodded his head eagerly. Yes! He really wanted to help. Though he was unsure which stone he should head towards and looked towards the southwestern most stone then back at Half Truth as if asking if he should go there.

Beyond stood by and watched the other kin, fascinated that they were figuring things out so quickly. But he, like the others he was sure, was eager to see what all of this would bring about, and what the next step would be. Surely things weren't that simple.

Half Truth shook her head. "I- the northwestern one, I think that's the one that needs tapped next. It's got that sort of curved shape on it!" A pause- she found herself wanting something to call him. "What's your name, by the way? Dunno if you've heard us shouting, but I'm Half Truth. The colorful fella is Motes-in-Moonlight, but he told us that Motes was ok, and the grey doe with the short tail is Soothe."

Rolling Mist nodded curtly, having understood her instructions. Then came what he feared most. Introductions. Having no way to tell the others he couldn't speak he grimaced a little, frustrated with his own disability. Running swiftly over to the stone Half Truth stood upon he smiled shyly and drew with his hoof, in large print on the ground, the symbols that made up his name. 'Rolling Mist' He looked up at her and opened his mouth as if to talk, trying to show her that he couldn't. Hopefully she knew how to read the symbols, or someone did, otherwise he'd remain nameless. He wasn't very good at charades and his name wasn't exactly the easiest thing to act out.. aside from the rolling anyway. With another bashful smile he turned and trotted towards his designated stone.Hopping up onto the northwestern stone he settled his hooves in place and waited.

Half Truth was suddenly aware that she'd crammed a hoof in her mouth, but what could she do about it now? She shrugged. Either he couldn't talk or he wouldn't talk. Either way, that was ok. She looked at the symbols on the ground, but wasn't quite sure what they meant. Smoke, maybe? Fog? Mist? Breeze? It could be anything. Maybe one of the others would know? Or else somebody who knew him could tell her. For now she'd just call him fella. It was what she called a lot of kin- fella was a pretty good catchall term when you just didn't know what to call someone.

thyPOPE She liked the idea of helping, anyway. Carefully she stepped off her 'crane' stone, and back onto it again. The gathered group would not be surprised to see that the moment Soothe hopped back onto what had become "her stone" that the Obelisk begins to glow brighter once again. Kitty Sprightt Motes groaned and slid down off the stone, and waited for - Soothe? what a cute name - to hop back up on her stone, then scrambled back onto his. As expected, having Motes step onto "his stone" results in the same brightening as last time. He has time to hold his breath in anticipation as Half Truth takes her turn. Scaramouche Fandango She stepped on the southwest stone, then raced back to the eastern stone to activate it. This is where the glow had dimmed last time. This time, however, the glow only brightens, as Half Truth goes from one stone to the next. All the gathered kin are cast in the Obelisk's unnerving, ghostly glow. I K i n u I Hopping up onto the northwestern stone he settled his hooves in place and waited. He would barely have any time to settle his hooves firmly onto the stone before the glow grows brighter and brighter. In fact, the glow, blue-white like the coldest moonlight, takes on a terrifying brightness. It is blinding in its strength, almost seeming to rend the Obelisk apart by the symbols on its sides. Light is silent, they all know that--the sun does not sing or speak, it dances-- but in that moment with the light rushing past them into the Swamp and surrounding them, it is as if light has learned to roar. They suddenly think that perhaps they had been wrong all along, that the glow was something to be feared rather than sought. The terror paralyzes them and they cannot speak. Those who only looked on are caught in the light as well. No kin or creature in the area can escape. No cry can be raised into the air that is being suffocated by the light. There is only awe--both awesome and awful. PLEASE HOLD YOUR POSTS. THE RP TEAM NEEDS TO SLEEP BUT THIS ORP WILL RESUME TOMORROW. THREAD SILENCE PLEASE UNTIL REOPENING.

When the flash of the bright light clears again, the world is -- perhaps surprisingly -- exactly as it was before the white washed their vision to nothing. Before them stands the Obelisk, dark but glowing brightly with the strange symbols covering its surface, there to see and touch and nothing more. The only thing that has changed are the lights in the sky. They are bright enough to stand out even against the brilliant blue, to shine through mangrove branches that encroach on the edges of the clearing, searing lines into their vision that will be hard to forget anytime soon. Eleven of them, each pointing in a different direction, like arrows directing them toward who knows what? (two of these overlap. BUT WHICH TWO?)They are there for only a minute, maybe two, before they fade out again to nothing. Eleven more mysteries to be solved. ________________________________________ OOC: THIS THREAD IS NOW OPEN AGAIN.Since you all solved the puzzle so quickly, this ORP is now a free for all where kin can interact with each other or leave, as you desire. There will be no more RP/GM prompts in this thread, but you're welcome to stick around to get post count, or even enter now to have one of your kin witness to this strange spectacle. You can still step on stones or try to touch the Obelisk (which is now unresponsive) but if you have done either or now choose to do either, your kin will experience the following: If you stepped on one of the etched stones - The next night you have a happy dream that brings back a memory you have forgotten, that will stay with you after you wake. Feel free to write a solo in a new thread or in your journal regarding this; if you hit 500 words, you can claim +1 RP point for it! If you touched the Obelisk itself - The next night you have a terrifying dream about kin and familiars who are seized with some kind of horrible sickness that leaves them warped, rotting, and mad. Feel free to write a solo in a new thread or in your journal regarding this; if you hit 500 words, you can claim +1 RP point for it! Please pick only one of the above two prompts, but which is your choice! More information regarding what happens next will be posted soon.... PS -- Thank you all for participating! I can't believe how quickly this went, and we'll make sure than next time more people can join in on the puzzle solving, try to make it a little harder so it takes a little bit longer. (I mean, what next time...>>)

It was the end of the world as she knew it, and she... felt fine. If this was how the world ended, better that it was quick. Half Truth had known that nothing good would come of this, and now they were being rewarded for their folly by having the world ripped asunder. Her final thought (or what she thought later was her final thought) was how strange the experience was. This was a new level of something akin to fear, but something also akin to exhilaration. This was riding the lightning- no, not even that. This was being the lightning, and then it was over and nobody was dead. Nothing was wrong after all- the world was itself. Whole. Complete in a way that didn't make sense to her. Rays of light trailed overhead and she just took them in- she was far too dazed to even try to make sense of them.
It was over. She was alive. These two things being true were nigh unbelievable. She sank to her haunches, mouth slightly agape.
"what."
It was all she could say.
