Wood= 5/5
With the next swing of the axe, he felled another tree, though this one fell with a little more weight than previous ones. When he inspected the fallen tree, he found that it had enough usable wood for two logs! He thanked his fortune at being able to return to the cook faster than he previously thought possible. The cook would certainly love to add these beauties to the cooking fire.

Name: Buckler Up! Questgiver: Armorsmith Prerequisites: None Objectives: 1 post to create a shield Rewards:+1 Armorsmith
Rota strolled on by to the armorsmith, for he needed to learn the art of making shields and armor if he was going to be any help to anyone. With the guidance of the armorer and his memories, he donned a leather apron and began. The heat of the metal was surprisingly not getting to him as much as he would have thought. In fact, he felt more at ease than he ever had. It reminded him of the heat off of his father's forge, but he seemed to recall that his father's was hotter. maybe that was merely because of the exotic materials he needed to work with, but time tends to warp all memories. He beveled the shell into a hardened dome and cooled it in a tank of water, giving it the needed shape and strength. The entire time, he took stock of the needed steps to craft a shield specifically. As he riveted bands of metal into place to add durability and grip, he wondered how long it would take to surpass the level of craftsmanship his father had as an artisan. He hung up the leather apron and the shield, appreciated his work, and then left with head held high.

1-50= 1 mushroom 51-90= 2 mushrooms 91-100= 3 mushrooms
Rota found out that the cook needed additional help, so he went back out into the wood to forage for the shrooms he needed. It became clear to him that this was around the same area as he fought the boar, and began to reminisce on that day which felt like so long ago at this point. How he had advanced in such a short amount of time was spectacular.

Rota managed to find some, but it seemed that the Boars might have already had their fill. He would not be discouraged though. This was a big forest, they couldn't possibly eat them all. That would be crazy. He continued to scrounge through the undergrowth in hopes of finding a big cache of the capped fungus.

Still slow going. Rota pondered if he was ever going to have a gathering mission go quite as well as the mining ever again. it seemed like everything else sought to drag him down with tedium rather than help him along his way. Not much he could do about it, but this was the sort of luck that he had informed Alyx about previously, and he was not too fond of it.

The Boars were getting sloppy in their greediness. Rota was able to find two usable mushrooms instead of the usual one. Rota was filled with relief. He had once again evaded a task that could have taken far longer than it needed to be. He set about the damp, dank ground once more to find even one more mushroom. It was all he needed. Just one more and he could be done with this infernal cook that sent him on gathering missions.

He overachieved, but he didn't care. The task was done and Rota could get back to his daily life once more. That was all that mattered. Hopefully the cook would appreciate the work he just did, but he had a gut feeling that his jobs with the cook were only getting started. Rota sprinted back to the cook, cloak fluttering in the breeze as fast as he could go. He had more important things to do.

If nothing else, then he might find something in there that can challenge him, or at least give him measurable experience. The speed he was advancing was painful, as accustomed to grinding as he was. He could slaughter the Gloomweave Queen right now, if he had a mind to, surely he could take anything inside the dungeon. What was there to worry about, really? He was level 12, on the first floor of the game. He was fighting monsters that he could defeat at level 5, and he took the Queen at level 7. He had very little else that he felt he could gain on this floor. He prepared for the ambushes he would suffer along the road, and was not surprised when three boars emerged from the brush. "I was wondering when you would show up." He readied his sword and turned to minimize his profile to the boar directly in front of him, keeping a critical eye trained on the beast as his blade began to glow white. It was times like these that Rota needed a pick-me-up. So why not return to a site of disappointment? He removed his cloak, and felt the stone of the mine wall. for a second, he thought he felt something different about one section. At first he dismissed it, but the smith in him told him that he couldn't give up now. Shaking his head in futility and self confusion, he propped his sword against the wall of the cave and took out his pickaxe. He pinpointed the spot on the wall that needed his attention, and got to work swinging. He was not following the same path anymore, this would mark the first branch of his mine.

Rota had gained nothing of significance from the first few strikes, but then again, that was expected at this point. He let himself be undeterred by it, since the feeling was still there. He brought his pick down again and again, each time gaining more determination than the last. This was HIS mine. He would not let it beat him like this. he could only take so much failure all at once.

Still nothing. Rota was beginning to wonder if he was just not cut out for being in this world. It seemed that lately, all he could do was lose, lose, lose. He couldn't hold his own in a fight, he could barely gather materials, and without the PROPER materials he couldn't smith. There was almost no point to him being around. He had nothing of value to give except be a distraction. Each successive swing filled with more and more frustration as he realized the futility of this endeavor.

The futility continued as the stone around him continued to be pulverized. Shards of stone embedded themselves in Rota's arms, but he was too caught up in his own thoughts to care. the pick kept coming down again and again as he got more and more frustrated. How could it be that he was incapable of doing anything properly anymore? How was it possible that he was so entirely and utterly worthless? His frustrations were being taken out of the stone of the caves. This was barely a focused endeavor at this point. This had minorly devolved into full on venting.

Rota's pick fell increasingly swiftly as the weight of his emotions crashed down on him and he sunk to his knees in introspection. This was his darkest hour yet. However, it was in this moment that a glimmer in the darkness appeared. Stones fell away, revealing a mother lode of materials. The vein was there, just as he had felt. He wiped gritty tear from his eye as he collected what he could, and felt the vindication wash over him. Rota grabbed his pick with renewed vigor, and set upon his task once more, swinging the pick no longer in angst, but with purpose.

As Rota continued to expand the mine, the Vein opened into a small pocket of similar quality. this was the best haul he had seen in a while, and he was going to take full advantage of it. This was well worth the wait. He mined with increased gusto, feeling a sense of accomplishment and excitement once more. This world had Taken away, now it seemed like it was of a mind to give once more. This was worth the price of admission in coal alone, and he was going to milk this vein dry for as long as it decided to keep pumping.
