"That's what I thought." She started to follow him in traversing the moat, but he apparently found her best friend. She readied her pistol to try and take it out, but by the time she did Chance managed to shake it off. "You alright?"

"Just peachy," replied Chance, but there was less sarcasm in it than before as he traipsed onward.

"Mn..." She trailed behind him, but got a visit from her next friend, the crocodile. She staggered as it clamped onto her boot, and kicked it in the snout once more. She clambered away from it, thankful for thick boots. Quote: 7: - 50% of your remaining HP. A crocodile has bitten you, and attempts to drag you under.

"These ******** crocodile beasts," Chance grumbled, tugging on Claude's arm to pull her away from the damned thing. "Jeez. Almost there, come on."

She was about to sass him, but the next thing she knew, there was another painful snap, and then she was back to the beginning. Claude froze, eyes going a bit wide as she looked around, but seemed relieved when Chance didn't show up. Well then. That was good. It seemed it was just her. She let out a soft sigh, and then sat herself on the ground, and waited. Quote: 3: INSTANT DEATH for just you. You need to portal out and restart form Round 1!

One second Claude was there, the next second she had disappeared.
Chance swore loudly, but the plinths with their cases were right there and he had come this far, after all. Claude would have wanted him to keep going, so he did, taking a few steps towards the cases and reaching out to pick one, a different one than the last time.
And this time, it was the right one. He snatched it up with a satisfied gasp, tucked it into his pocket, and went to find Claude.
Success.

Claude was leaning against some of the overgrowth, her legs crossed Indian-style, and twirling a flower between her fingertips idly. Chance hadn't poofed here yet, which she took as a good sign. The trainee rose to her feet though as she heard foot steps, and one hand slipped to her pistol, ready to draw it, until Chance's curly head came into view. "...And?"

He knew she wasn't dead, because the same thing had happened to them their second run. Chance tromped out of the bushes to find Claude sitting on the ground, and a triumphant expression spread across his face.
"Mission accomplished, ********," he said in satisfaction, holding up his left wrist. A heavy manacle was now wrapped around it, the skin on either side of it a dark, burnt gold color that spread partially out towards his fingers and almost up to his elbow.
There was a pause. He should say something, which he knew he should, he just didn't want to.
After a long moment in which Chance had a silent but furious fight with himself, he finally said flatly,
"Thanks."

She inspected this artifact they'd gone through the gauntlet for. Her brow quirked skeptically. It looked more radioactively harmful than useful, based on what it was doing to Chance's skin. "...What does it do?" Claude stared at it for a moment longer before she glanced at Chance, waiting for an answer, but instead was treated to the sight of...an internal debate? She waited, and her brow arched. She stared at him for a moment before she just waved him off. "Are we finished here?"

"Supposedly it renders the user impervious to pain for a few hours," said Chance, examining the cuff thoughtfully. "At least, that's what the lore says, when I researched it. Not sure what the rest of it does, or what the side effects are, but I figured anything that can help block pain is something to be useful, right?"
He lowered his arm and looked over at Claude, her dismissal of his acknowledgement of her making him roll his eyes. A sigh passed through his lips.
"Yes," said Chance, waving his other arm noncommittally. "We're done. Let's get out of this place."

Claude let out a soft thoughtful hum. "Possibly." She murmured, not quite sold on the idea, but marveling over all these artifacts that had amazing effects regardless. She wondered if he'd take it for a spin on the training field... The eye roll and sigh wasn't missed, and she mulled that over for a moment too as she gave a small nod. Claude started to head towards the portal that would take them back. "...What was that about?" She asked after a moment.

"Nothing," said Chance.
And then, a moment later,
"Just. You. You haven't changed at all in the last few weeks, have you?"

Nothing, hm? Even before she could form a thought about that obvious wrong answer she got another one in return. She slowed her pace, glancing back at Chance. "What do you mean?" kuuropii phone tag as I sit in the parking lot

His gaze flickered to her briefly; Chance sighed, exhaling a breath.
"I don't know," he said finally. "Just..." A hand waved noncommittally in Claude's direction. "You're still as stoic as ever."lucyal why hello phone tag biggrin

"Mhm..." Claude hummed softly. "That is me though." She paused for a moment, thinking about where this could be going, and was mindful of her wording. "Should I have changed?"
