With his most reliable horse lost somewhere in the dwarven mines, Yuki had to settle with a new one. He didn't much like the idea, pretty convinced that his bad luck of being thrown off was only going to rear its head yet again.
At least, after this... Once more. He only had to do this once more.

At least for the first part of the trip there were no near-death instances of slipping on loose stone or unfortunate encounters with bee hives.
But a familiar feathered creature was suddenly in the middle of the trail and Yuki groaned.
It was that goddamned duck again.
The horse could have stomped on it for all he cared, but instead it only pranced around in trying to avoid getting its ankles bitten at by the strangely vicious waterfowl.
Yuki was the one who ended up getting bitten on the leg in the fray.
He'd never actually had roast duck before and wondered if he should try to catch the bird to change that.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 33 YOUR HP: 20

These ******** horses, guys.
How were there even still horses in the stable at this point?
Or, maybe, Yuki was just that bad at riding a horse.
He rubbed his sore backside, watching the beast take off down the trail and into the trees without him. Again. If there really were elves in this forest, they had plenty of horses to their name.

Yuki actually kinda hoped that he might find his previous horse somewhere in the mountain. He was unlucky as far as that went.
He was also unlucky enough to set off a booby trap that had arrows coming down at him. Somehow... Somehow by the magic of rerolls his own reflexes Yuki managed to keep from being impaled.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 23 YOUR HP: 20

Finding more food to keep him fed and alive was great, especially when the ******** horses kept running away.
He packed up the food that he'd found left behind, still inwardly wondering just how he kept finding it. At least without it being half eaten by insects and animals.

As he neared the end of his journey, Yuki discovered that the old man that had had some strange distaste toward apples was sitting in the same spot he'd been in last time he'd made it to the summit.
"Have you been sitting there this entire time?"
The man didn't respond at first, gazing off into the distance like he was deep in thought. He was deep in thought, apparently, because several seconds passed and Yuki had to move in front of him for him to finally look up.
"Bags! What did I tell you about sneaking up on me?!"
"Sorry, uh... Are you okay?"
"Of course I am. I was out here thinking, and now you've gone and interrupted me."
It seemed like a very dangerous place to think, but Yuki was no wizard so he didn't say anything. Surely a wizard could defend himself.
"You brought more food with you, my boy?"
Yuki held up the bag of what he had left.
"Good, good. I knew you'd be coming by again, so I brought some more of those apples for you. I would very much like a good few carrots. They say it helps with the eyesight, you see, and it's awfully dark as you know."
Yuki produced what he was asked for, seeing as he had a few.
"You're a nice lad. I sincerely hope that the dark ones don't rend you to pieces if we don't meet again."

This was his final quest.
The final quest.
He was so ready to be finished with all of this walking (because God knew he could barely keep a horse) and it was going to be absolutely wonderful to only have to worry about the dangers in and around the castle instead of out in the middle of nowhere as well.
Yuki might have been a little picky with the food he packed this time around, remembering fondly the old man on the mountain that had traded food to him before. It would certainly be strange to see him again, but there was no harm in avoiding any red things in case they happened to cross paths this final time he was out.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 19 YOUR HP: 50

Despite trying to keep himself on the lookout for any rabid animals or slippery looking surfaces... Yuki forgot about the bee hives...
Good thing he didn't forget where the nearest body of water was when he had to run away from all of the stinging insects that chased after him.

The forest was as quiet as the grave as he passed though, just as he had been accustomed to during his trips. Only once had he seen one of the gigantic spiders that he'd heard so much about, and that was once more than he ever wanted to see one.
Unfortunately that number was about to be doubled.
Yuki was not aware that he could actually run so fast, but other than losing a bit of food he was no worse for wear and managed to lose the eight-legged freak that was chasing after him.

Yuki could relish the fact that he didn't have to traverse the inside of the mountain after this. It was even darker than the skies outside and the sounds that echoed off the walls were just as unnerving now as they had been the first time he came though.
Luckily, he didn't encounter any booby traps, and instead stumbled upon - almost literally - a dropped bag of food. He found quite a lot of food in here, actually...QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 14 YOUR HP: 50

And as he reached the summit to collect his sixth and final artifact, at first he thought he was alone. It wasn't until he retrieved the item he'd come for that he returned to find the old wizard - or were all wizards old? - sitting in the exact same spot that he had been in the last two occasions that Yuki had met him.
This time Yuki only smiled in acknowledgement, and once the man realized he was there the knight sat on the ground alongside him and put his bag of supplies in his lap. Stashing the artifact away, he shuffled through his remaining food to take tally on just what he did have and looked up at the wizard with an amused smirk.
"Do you have a particular preference today, wizard?"
And he smiled in a warm sort of way. "Tonight seems a good night for a stew, and you're in luck! I snared a pair of rabbits just today and can provide that for us."
Yuki's grin widened, and he chuckled. It seemed he was being invited to share a meal with the old man, and who would he be to pass that up? Plus, a stew sounded amazing, indeed.
"I have some vegetables, of course. Carrots and potatoes mostly, and a bit of bread and cheese."
The wizard nodded in approval. "Excellent, then let me show you to our camp." The man stood up then, looking even more lanky as he stood at his full height than he even had sitting down.
