OMG! Twilght, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer! They're the best books in the world!
Also good: Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' books (BTW they're making a movie of the first book... it comes out this fall i think.)

anneadeline: If you are up to the amount of work it would take, I would recommend creating an alphabetical list by author of the books other people have recommended. It might take a while, but it would be much easier to find a book to read for those of us who need to find one. It would also be a lot more organized and people would be able to see if their book was already on the list before recommending it. If you do not want to do this, I am willing to do it and them PM the list to you so you can post it. Please let me know.

I assume everyone's read Harry Potter, so I won't bother resommending it. But Ella Encanted is really good, and so is Artemis Fowl.

I love artimis fowl!! and if u like that book Ender's game is good too.
Mystic and Rider is really awesome, and anyone who likes tammy is going to love that one!!!!!

Well, I agree with The Mists of Avalon. I also recommend the Lost Years of Merlin series by T.A. Barron, The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinnley, anything by Anne McCaffrey, the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable, The Dark Is Rising (and its sequels) by Susan Cooper, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin, Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, Enchantress From the Stars by Sylvia Engdahl, Dune by Frank Herbert, and Sabriel by Garth Nix.
I totally agree to all of those, but also want to add The Outlaws of Sherwood and Spindle's End by Robin McKinley and the Tamir Trilogy by Lynn Flewelling... Now those are some pretty strong willed and unique heroines.

My father had a daughter by Grace Tiffany Its from the point of view of Shakespeare's daughter...who doesn't really exist. Its really good though.
Hero's Song, Fire Arrow, and East by Edith Pattou All really good books. Fire Arrow, and East both have Female protagonists.

And..
MaryJanice Davidson Her Undead and Unwed series is the funniest thing ever!!
Also, I suppose Laurell K. Hamilton books. HOWEVER, I'd say only read the first bunch of the Anita Blake series, because they get really X rated without any story line after that.

I'm not sure if any of these books are anything like Tamora Pierce, because i just sort of read anything...But they are for sure all really good reads.

Misery by Stephen King.

Not really related to TP but it's a very good book.

I really recommend by author rather than by book (and I'll try not to be redundant), so here goes:
Ann McCaffrey's Pern books.
Holly Black - V. dark, V.V. good.
Terry Pratchett - gut-wrenchingly funny
Also by Garth Nix - Shade's Children. My personal favorite. (Bragging point: I have a signed copy of one of Nix's books! EEP! It's nice to be friends with librarians. cool )
Chris Crutcher (sp?) Wrote stotan!
and many more, but I need sleep right now. YAY BED!!!

Another one I recommend is 'The Naming' by Alison Croggon. It has magic (they are called bards), a girl as the main character, but not so much fighting. Only the first book is out, but the next one is coming out in August.

Yes.
I was reading through and I highly reccomend that book as well.
Highly.
I'm actually going to try and order the second one off of Amazon since it's out in Australia...
I could never get into the LOTR books but this is supposed to be 'Written in the Tolkien Tradition' quoted from Tamora Pierce.
I think if you like the Immortals quartet you'd like this series...
Of course, that's my comparison...
xD

I've read the naming I enjoyed it but I also found it rather slow reading it took me awhile to get into if I hadn't been determined to read it all I would have given it up the writing style makes it a little slow for me I don't know why. But I will reinforce the Anne McAffery series especially Dragonfilght and Dragon Quest those were my favorites. I also reinforce the Twilight series if you haven't read it go read it I can't wait for it to come out in August. I also recommend the book Treasure at the Heart of the Tangle Wood by Meridith Ann Pierce. It's got a lot of magic in it but it definetly doesn't go like you think it's going to go.

Sherwood Smith was an overall good author and I've read Inda and The Fox and they're pretty good but a little bit confusing at first.

I'd also recommend the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain it's a really good series if you haven't read them then you need to go read all three books. biggrin heart

Also books by:
Sarah Dessen (kinda shojo, but still overall good.)
Melissa Mar (love Love LOVE!!!)
Robin McKinley (She writes a lot of re-done fairy tales, which are alright, but her original work is absolutely OUTSTANDING. i.e., The blue sword, The hero and the crown, Sunshine, and something else I can't recall at the moment. xp )
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patrica Wrede. (I had to get my lower intestine sewn together after reading this book, since I busted it laughing.)
