Chel looked up, intrigued by the unusual motion.
"Eh?" She put her fingers on the strings in the wrong places and said, "Sure why not?" Chel was known for being willing to try anything once. Always the first to step up for gross foods and weird sexual kinks. "What do I do?"

It was remarkable how Jack took warped hands that held ice and splinters and made them gentle again with a pair of lips.
But that was pretty language filling Chel's head and it made her itchy and lucky at the same time. She tried to shake her hand loose and said, "So gross," loud enough for him to hear. After two more short kisses to the side of his face in retaliation for the accent joke, she pushed herself up to sit upright and apply pressure to his waist. "Either we ******** and you rip the scar open or I kick your a** with Samus. Again."

Jack moved her fingers up a few frets and peeled her pinkie off. "I'll show you the first song I ever learned. This is an A major chord," he explained, handing her the pick. "Don't strum hard, she's sensitive."

He looked terribly pleased with himself regardless, and she was released without a fight. Sometimes he liked to disturb with cannibalism—sometimes being overtly sappy was enough.
"Hmm. Let's not ******** up my face any more today," Jack decided, starting to push himself up. "Put your money where your mouth is, Chel."

Chel took the pick and proceeded to strum the guitar loudly, last note being nearly plucked with how much force she put into it. Not gentle at all.
"Tadahhh~?"

He winced and nearly made a move to take the guitar back. Jack had a (ridiculously sentimental maybe) bond with Barbara, and it was hard for him to let someone else touch her, let alone someone stronger than a regular human. It was probably rooted in his usual trust issues.
"Chord's right," he said before giving her a look. "Not so ******** hard, Chel, or the lesson's over." He went on to show her D major and E major as well, the only three chords necessary for this song, patiently moving her fingers into place if she forgot. "The progression is A-D-E-D. Let's see you try that."

Chel crumpled under his scold and murmured, "Sorry man," while he moved her fingers. She hadn't known what was considered hard or soft.
Remembering the chords wasn't just hard, it was mentally stretching. She had trouble tying her shoes on her own because of the directionality and having to match up her thoughts, the letter A, with the way her fingers were shaped was difficult. It took her several tries to move between each of them, and every time she had to switch Jack had to fix her fingers again.
"I don't think I'm gettin' it man," she said quietly with a tight jaw. She was used to this kind of learning experience; trying her best and meeting a wall that delayed an entire class from reading or a test from being finished. "Maybe you should just play."

"It's the first lesson," he said patiently. "I'm not expecting you to pick it up immediately. Hell, I took a while." Maybe that meant something, even without a learning disorder.
Speaking of. "Does dyslexia affect this too?" Jack had to ask. "Maybe muscle memory can override it."

"Maybe," Chel responded, voice tense and coiled. She often wondered how much was disability and what was her own limitation. "Could just be I'm s**t at it," she offered, repetitively strumming the same chord over and over mindlessly as she talked, as though hearing the sound would teach her fingers what to do.
She went for D and instead got D flat. "That's not right..."

Mechanically he nudged the rogue finger back in place. "Could be. That just means we'll have to have a lot of private lessons," Jack said with a little smirk. He could feel her tensing, struggling with her own inability to learn, and wasn't sure if a joke would help or not. He added a kiss to the side of her face just in case. Distractions, distractions.
"At least you won't have to worry about getting calluses. Those were a b***h to play through at first."

Chel nudged him off with her shoulder. She liked physical interactions but not when she was struggling in such a public place (even if the edge of the jungle wasn't that public).
"Yeah?" She asked, now strumming the D chord over and over. "You wanted the-" Strum. "D that badly?"

He snorted a laugh. "About as much as you do apparently. Switch to E." Surreptitiously he reached for his phone to take a photo.

Chel's eyes went from a blank spaced out look to a cheeky grin in record time. There was no way Chel was going to make it through something without making sex jokes.
She tried switching and it was still rough. A frustrated noise left her, the kind that swelled and ebbed. She at least got the right notes this time, but it took at least a minute or two to get her fingers to act accordingly.
When he brought out her phone, she looked at him curiously. "Since when you into selfies?"

"I'm not. Smile~" He snapped several photos of her in a row in case Chel made a face. "You're getting better already," Jack encouraged her. "Would taking a picture of the fingering help you for later?" Beat. "Yes, that's the word, go ahead."

Unfortunately for Jack, Chel had mad selfie game and already had a cute face on by the time he snapped the photo. The only change between the photos was a slow break down into laughter, but that looked nice on photos anyways.
"Fingerin'," she repeated back. "Oh I want pics of that alright. Never knew you were a camera whore." She went back to the guitar and nudged him with an elbow to take the pictures anyways. She had no clue whether or not it would help, but she figured it better to try than not try.
She strummed between two chords, only taking delays between either. D to E wasn't as hard as D to A. "What am I playin' anyways?"
