"Okay, but," said Chance slowly. "You can't just like, experience something just because you want to know what it feels like. I don't think emotions have an on and off switch, they just sort of happen, don't they?"
Not that he would even know.

"Mn." Yes and no. She knelt at some drawers, pulled one out, and fished around. It turned up no small containers, so she started looking through the next one. "They don't just happen. It builds over time."

He tugged impatiently on one of his curls.
"If it builds over time, then how the ******** does anyone actually get anything accomplished?" he asked, sounding only mildly annoyed by the concept. "That sounds like all it would do is make everything even more confusing."

"Time passes without someone keeping track or realizing." She found what she was looking for and stood, nudging the drawer closed with a foot as she took off the lid. "I suppose it could, but that's why people say it feels sudden, because it hits them one day, but it's not a sudden event." Claude returned to the pot, and started with the left over rice, putting it into the container. "When one takes the time to look back, they realize the process in which it happened."

He looked suspicious.
"Seems unnecessarily complicated," Chance said, mulling this over. "Or too convenient. Just out of the blue feeling that way seems..."
He shook his head, frowning in thought. "Well, I suppose it's one of those things were the reaction precedes the action, kind of. I still think part of that is a load of s**t, though."
Only because he couldn't grasp the concept of actual feeling deeply enough.

She scooped what was left of the ******** delicious curry into the container on top of the rice. "You think it's a load of s**t because you haven't experienced it." She relied evenly, not taking her attention off her task, but still very much engaged (and amused) with the conversation. Claude put the top on the container, and put it on the counter. She then slid it down, until it tapped against Chance's side. The final pans were taken to the sink, where she ran the water so that she could wash them out as well.

"Maybe," said Chance, with a roll of his eyes. "But maybe it really is just a load of s**t. I don't like complicated things, it gives me a headache, and this sort of thing is definitely a complicated thing."
He hopped off the counter and picked up the container of excess food, tucking it under one arm.
"Maybe one day I'll understand it, but today is just not that day."

Very much like a child. She mused this to herself as she washed out pans. Those too were made quick work of, and placed to dry alongside the plates. She wiped her hands dry on her pants and turned to Chance. "Rome wasn't built in a day." Was her form of encouragement. "Also, thanks." For dinner. "It was ******** delicious. I'll make something next time."

"And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride," Chance quipped cryptically. He stretched his arms upwards, twisting this way and that to work the kinks out.
"And you're welcome. Now I think it's an excellent time for a nap."
