brownie bites
Fortunately for Peyton, Chance was telling the absolute truth about the truth. Lying was both a waste of time and more effort than he was willing to expend on such a useless thing. Drama and complications due to dishonesty or a simple lack of communication were things that he was trying to avoid, not bring upon himself.
The brownies were delicious. Chance helped himself to another.
"Comrades-in-arms," right?" he asked her with a grin. "I kind of like the sound of that. And you mean partner as in my weapon, right? Because yes, I do. Or if you meant my Moon partner, in which case I trust him about as far as I can throw him and vice versa, so it works out perfectly."
He smiled winningly at Peyton and then swallowed his mouthful of brownies.
"Thanks," said Chance. "I think that'd be pretty cool, I appreciate that."

Of course it did, Claude, come on now, you should know him better than that.
His eyes had brightened considerably as he looked at her, cheeks flushed with pleasure. "******** yeah, I would," said Chance excitedly. "Naming my own constellation would be the best thing. And the sky and space is so vast there is always something to learn, shittons of things to learn."
There was a pause as he ate more and considered Claude's option.
"Is a frigate like a pirate ship, then? Would you go in search of booty?"
Totally innocent.

"Weapon partner," she'd clarify, returning that radiant smile with one of her own. Whatever hardness lay inside, Peyton still enjoyed being kind. She liked to make people happy, lift their spirits in whatever way she could. It made her feel good, and maybe that was selfish, and not the point, but ends were the same regardless. She liked taking care of people, it came naturally. It seemed odd to her that he'd pick an Eclipse partner that he did't trust, but if their arrangement worked, who was she to judge? What she had with America might, for all she knew, be the minority, not the majority. Maybe having your best friend was strange, because who knew how that emotional bond might effect that partnership. But it worked for them, and that's what mattered. "Do you know how long you'll have to be in here?"

turtle dove"You should have been an astronomer." She rested her head in her hand as she looked at him, amused by that enthusiasm that sprang forth once more. "You better get on it, Chance, and declare the next constellation before someone else does." "A frigate refers to a warship built for speed and maneuverability. They were used to hunt pirates. As a result they were rarely under pirate control, since most fled at the sight of one." Which definitely meant she had to have one. Obviously. "I don't have to search." She deadpanned without a skipping the beat, all the while giving him a look, because there was nothing innocent about it. "To sail though, and live on the seas..." Claude mused. "It'd be nice."

the late shiftIt was difficult to see the extent of Chance's injuries, the lighting dimmed due to most of the infirmary patients sleeping at the moment, but he could see the flash of bandages here and there. Sitting in the nearby chair, he shifted until his elbows were resting on his knee's, his hands clasped, as he leveled a cold look in Chance's direction. "You know, if you get yourself killed I'll have to find a new sun and stars." He smirked, before continuing, frowning slightly. "A reaper though....I've only ever met one of those, and she had a spear as well. Don't suppose she mentioned her name...?"

coffee creamersSome of the tenseness in Oliver's shoulders left him. The sense of being too tightly wound never really went away, but there was a visible relief in him. The kid frowned, more for the sake of that awful pun than anything. "You shouldn't look so happy about it, they might keep you here even longer!"

"Oh, has she?" Lex asked with a bemused grin, standing idly by Chance's bed. "How so?"
Lex stood idly by Chance's bed, looking at the man expectantly. "Would you like a few more pillows?"

"Yup," aid Chance, giving a smile up to Lex. He wondered if the other man was attempting to gauge him at all, or maybe he was just trying to be friendly as some were. "That's probably something you could ask her yourself, she and I have just known each other a short while, after all. But she's level-headed."
An urge to add and hot just to see how the other man would react was on the tip of his tongue, but Chance swallowed it back just in time, amusement flashing in his eyes.
There was a pause as he considered the question.
"Maybe one more pillow."

Chance delighted in awful puns, sorry Oliver. He also took interest in the fact that Oliver was the type of person he was and got so easily flustered, which was simultaneously probably a sad thing and an amusing thing all at once - which was good for Chance and not quite as good for the poor kid himself.
"I won't stay here forever," he said with a laugh, taking a sip of his coffee. "Don't look so distraught, I'll get out of here in no time."

the late shift
The cold look was received with a certain amount of amusement, since Chance had started to grow used to it. He lifted a hand, winced, and tugged idly at a long curl that had started to wind its way down his cheek.
"Yes, and we wouldn't want that, now would we?" he said, matching Finn's smirk with one of his own. "Don't worry, you're still my moon, Finn," Chance added in a deadpan sort of voice. He shifted a little in the bed and tried to get himself more comfortable.
"Her name was Hel. Quite a girl, that one."

"I should have," said Chance. "But, alas, here we are. I will take advantage of what I can while I'm here. Maybe there's some way I could do something like build an observatory or something, a really shitty makeshift one. I have a telescope now, but I kind of want to just keep that to myself, so maybe not."
He swallowed another bite of his pasta and gave a nod as he listened. That was definitely an interesting tidbit of information. The look she was giving him just made him smirk, Chance slowly and deliberately forking another bite of pasta into his mouth.
"Maybe one day we can take a boat somewhere, find you some more booty."

brownie bites
Peyton had a nice smile, even if Chance sensed there was a certain amount of some other emotions beneath it. He chewed his brownie and leaned back against the pillows, wondering what exactly she was thinking about his whole partnership commentary.
"Hopefully only another day or two," he answered, waving aside the rest of his inquiries and settling on just relaxing, smiling up at Peyton. "I'm honestly not that bad, except for the whole rib thing."

coffee creamersOliver smiled again, sitting down on the chair next to the bed in a way that seemed a bit too hesitant. He didn't make himself too comfortable, perched at the edge of the chair it looked like he was just as ready for permission to sit as to be told it wasn't allowed. "I-it's really amazing, um, h-how fast healing works here..." Oliver said timidly, looking down at his shoes. He had cracked a rib once, and combined with all his other injuries from that car crash six years ago, it had taken him all summer to recover.

Brownie bites"That's very good to hear. I know it can get really boring having to lay around in here. I'm sure you're getting lots of visitors though." He was nice enough, surely there were any number of folks on the island that'd stop by. "Though if you could use some entertainment I could bring you something if you wanted. Books, or whatever else you might want." Within reason, of course. her offer extended to things she had access to.

turtle dove"Maybe you could spin it into a specialty when you become a full hunter." Claude mused. "You could argue that possibly investigating celestial bodies has an effect on FEAR..." Actually that didn't seem too far off...didn't a lot of catastrophic myths have to do with aligning stars and planets? A part of her found it winsome that he said 'we can take a boat', because there was something nice in someone wanting to be apart of your interests. Then she was amused now as she looked at him, tilting her head against her hand. "Are you suggesting we go sailing to get me laid, or are you suggesting we go sailing to get gold?" It definitely needed clarification, because the former was definitely grounds for more amusement.
