Paelor graced her with a roguish grin. "Ah play ta win," he admitted. "Sometimes th' rules interfere wit' t'at, but a clever feller can find ways around t'at. Funny 'ow some people dun t'ink too kindly of creative interpretations of th' rules. Ah'd be 'appy ta teac' yeh 'ow to play a few games... wit' and wit'out the flexible rules."

"Yeah, funny," she chucked. "From personal experience I'll vouch it's sometimes better to be faster than the target than smarter...but I'll take both any day." She considered his offer carefully and replied, "If I play any games with you I will remember to keep an eye on you, both eyes in fact!"

He grinned and waggled his eyebrows comically at her. "W'o doesn't like a lovely lass watc'in' 'is every move?" he asked, with an exaggerated leer, playing the fool.

The mare arched her own eyebrows, "Yes, and you wonder why Shydyl and I pegged you for a decent target." Honestly it had nothing to do with his looks, which the mare had to admit were not entirely bad. Actually if she had eyed him up before the stunt she might have pulled for more a long con with this fellow. Despite the devilish horns, the white coat gave him an overall regal appearance while the dark markings gave him an edge, the leather buckle he sported only furthered that cause and those blue eyes...she could almost feel herself getting lost in those deep blue pools if she looked long eno- She shook her head violently trying to right her thoughts. Silly girl, she chided within her own mind. This was exactly what she relied upon when she ran her con - that overwhelming euphoria that comes with the adrenaline rush, very easy to mistake for love. Time and time again she had seen it work - the stallion would save her from the evil bobcat, she'd gaze adoringly into his eyes, and he would quickly be parted with all that he valued in this world. Spare his life, of course, she and Shydyl weren't monsters - not like that thing that had chased them in here. She was astounded by Paelor's bravery in helping them, helping Shydyl, like he did. he had to know by then that they were tricking him but he still-

No! she thought firmly. This was a trap for her....somehow, she just knew it.

Paelor laughed a bit at her comment, unaware of the thoughts running through her head. "Ah'll take t'at as a compliment," he decided. "Ah work 'ard at playin' th' fool. Easier ta swindle yer marks outta t'eir live savin's. T'oug', Ah doubt yeh need to ta be told t'at. Pretty t'ing like yeh... dang if yeh prolly don't get fellas trippin' over t'emselves ta play th' 'eroes fer yeh." He shook his head slightly in amazement, not even bothering to try and convince himself he would have been immune to her charms. After all, he risked his own hide to save her freaking bobcat from a walker. If that wasn't stupidly unlike him, he didn't know what was.

"You're not wrong," she conceded glad to bring the focus of the conversation back to work. Work was a nice safe topic. "No one suspects a fool and most men are more than happy to assist a damsel in distress. Marks are all the same in that, they live to be the heroes of their own stories and..." she smiled slyly. "Well for a time, we help them live out that fantasy. We make them the heroes or the leaders or whatever else it is that they long to be. In the end we take our fair compensation and they are left with the memories..." Fair compensation might have been a bit of a stretch, but it was true - meddling in the affairs of tricksters was an experience. While the marks were off playing the hero in their own story, they rarely realized that they were instead playing the fool in the thief's story. But it seemed today the script was flipped and she really was a damsel in distress - not one of her better moments. She had to admit that having Paelor's support was crucial - she and Shydyl would not have made it on their own today.

He considered what she said and applied it to his own experiences, and found himself nodding an agreement. People always did seem to think they were smarter than everyone else around them. It was what made him such a successful little gambler. No one thought the back country hick with the thick accent to be able to take them for every trinket they had. Especially if they start off with a string of good luck.

It was on the tail of this thought that something else occurred to him. "Ah wonder..." he murmured thoughtfully. And then the fully import of the thought hit him and he shook his head. "Naw," he said, more to himself. That would be a Bad Idea.

"Now what's going through that head of yours?" Viatyl asked giving him a curious look. "It's only polite to share," she chided with a sly grin.

That little voice that told him when to fold and get his handsome tail out of the game was yelling at him, telling him to keep his mouth shut. However, the same force that had caused him to risk his own neck and play the hero, caused the words to pop out, "Ah was jus' t'inkin', wit' yer skills of distraction and misdirection, and my slig't o' 'oove talents... it might benefit us ta work toget'er fer a game or two..."

"Hmmm..." the mare considered his words carefully. She and Shydyl had always worked alone together. That was their style. However, she had to admit this guy was fairly clever and she did admire his tenacity and, among other things, this lovely bolt hole. "It...is a partnership that could be worth pursuing."

He grinned slowly. "Definitely worth persuing," he agreed. "At th' very least for a trail period, no? Ah'm not th' commitin' type, and Ah imagine yeh and yer friend t'ere 'ave a fine partnership goin'. If it dun work out, we go our separate ways, no 'ard feelings, eh?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 05, 2015 7:02 pm

"Shydyl and I are partners," Viatyl said slowly. "She goes were I go, if you're good with having a fairly friendly bobcat around then I'm in." She cast a glance to ensure that Shydyl agreed with her. The cat cast her a side glance but shrugged in the most non-commited manner imaginable. As long as the stallion kept his nose clean Viatyl knew he and Shydyl would get along just fine. And she imagined she could get along with him alright as well. "So....what's the con?"

Paelor gave the bobcat a respectful nod. He wasn't an idiot. Those claws were sharp. He turned his attention to the mare's words and considered them. He hadn't really had a con in mind. Though, not that she asked, one particular group popped to mind. "Mehbe an easy game ta see 'ow we get on?"

"I give our last escapade credit for that, but I'm always game for...a game," she grinned. "And on most days I am a very fetching damsel," she feigned fainting and laughed softly. "Thought I'll have to clean up a bit first. At least a little bit - too much mud and twigs takes away a bit of the appeal, you know?" she moved to the water and tried to shake out her mane.

"Yeh seem plenty pretty ta meh," Paelor told her with a rakish grin. She certainly did look lovely, with her mane all tossed about like that. Focus Paelor! Partnership. "Ah know of t'is group. Bunch o' stallions with nothin' 'tween t'eir ears but fluff. A littl o' th' 'look t'is way,' w'ile we pinc' t'at way an' t'ey'll never notice..."
