L'thor winced as the green hatchling struck out at the girl's face. "That cannot have been pleasant," he muttered as he watched her make her way over to the healers. "Could have been worse though, she's upright and they're patching her up not hustling her off. Looks as though she's not out of the running yet." If she made a habit of stupidity such as that however she probably wouldn't have a very long career in these violent times.

Elsewhere in the stands, in a slightly more plum position, Re'ka winced too and turned to her companion. "Well I've won a couple on that one, I just knew one of the kids would do something stupid." They nearly always did, which was why it was not an especially big win.

Shaking her head slightly the brown rider turned her attention back onto her Squire who was thus far unscathed. She really hoped the kid Impressed this time, they'd make a good rider, though she wasn't sure what her sofianist squire would think of Impressing in this particular clutch.

"I'll be sure to remember that, from both of you." She glanced at both of them when they told her that there were more canes out in the world. It was true, she knew, and she should have known better. Yet she was acting on impulse for once, and it came back to bite her. When Nash told her to close her eye, she did as she was told, allowing herself to look at the younger of the two healers with her good eye. "Both of you have been very kind to me. Thank you for that."

Qyprenna wriggled in her seat some. She was getting antsy to get back, frankly. Hopefully, dressing the rest of the wound would go a little bit quicker from now on.

Jemi gave a light smile and shrugged. “Probably one of the healers. Think they are the only ones really invested in making sure we don’t do stupid s**t.” She turned back to the babies, toddling about the sands and investigating the world. “Still, despite that, they are cute… and calm for the most part. Do you want to impress this time?” She questioned.

B’ren perked up, glancing back and waved getting the low down from Hazmath as well before making his way towards Ja’line. “What is with greens and mauling people?” He called out and wiggled his way through the crowd. It seemed riled up greens were in all the hatchings. It wasn’t a color he usually associated with anger but after three hatchings, he probably should.

Hazmath questioned, derailing for a moment and informing his rider. He questioned, happily babbling.

With her prize won Debonair's eyes settled back to blue and, adjusting her grip on the shiny thing, she started to saunter towards the candidates again. When her brother Lightning Flash Impressed she paused and chirped around the piece of cane, no hard feelings right?

It wasn't long after the speedy blue's Impression that some of the other hatchlings on the sands found their matches. As new riders and newly bonded dragons exclaimed in delight Debonair set off once more, stretching out her wings oh-so casually to show the whole cavern just how handsome she was.

Nash shook his head and applied the dressing. He carefully smoothed the cloth over the lid first, and turned to the start. He placed the cloth against the forehead and started running it down, smoothing it in place as he worked. “Almost done.” He tucked the last bit under her chin, rubbing it in place with a bit of pressure and nodded. “That will do you for now,” he admitted and stepped back to the table. “Off you go.”

Qyprenna grinned broadly when Nash finished up his work. Yes! She could go back into the Sands, finally. "Thank you so much," she said again, standing without any hesitation. "I'll see you after the Hatching." Politely, she gave Bereck a nod of her head, and then made her way back to original spot. After the ordeal with the cane, she was just going to stay where she was supposed to from then on. No trying to help, no being foolish. The important thing was seeing all the eggs hatch and watching the Impressions take place.

It was a momentous occasion, after all, injury or no.

"Congratulations," she said to Aderyn as she got back to her spot. She couldn't have been more happy for her fellow candidate, and Lightning Fast seemed quite please with himself, too. As did Debonair, now that she thought about it. Qyprenna watched as the green stretched out her wings and sauntered about the Sands. Despite their altercation before, the young woman had no hard feelings toward the hatchling. It was her fault she got injured in the first place, after all. How could she be mad at the dragon?

"...That wasn't the wisest decision." Really, of all the things to take on a hatchling for a cane didn't seem to really be good enough to Nersha. Maybe it had sentimental value to Bereck and maybe the candidate knew that, but it still was a risk not worth taking. She'd been lucky the green had just seen fit to quick lash out and then run off. The goldrider had seen her fair share of clutches and some of them could be downright brutal; savaging candidates for looking at them the wrong way.

"Still, looks like the little speedster's made up his mind," she said with a nod toward the blue. There were still only greens and blues on the sands, but there was plenty of time left. Over three quarters of dragons were green and blue. Even if this was a bronze sired clutch then she'd have expected around twenty-five to be green or blue. There were plenty of eggs left yet to make a statement on the clutches parentage.

Bereck sighed heavily and shook his head as the candidate departed. "Let's hope that's the only disaster of the day," he muttered, his brows knitting with care. Facial wounds were nasty, anything around the eye was worse, and though things might very well be alright they also might not. "At least that's one down," he added with a nod to the blue dragon and then there was another, and a couple more over there. "Humph." Bereck narrowed his eyes and returned his gaze to the green parading around with the head of his cane; if she thought she was keeping that she had another thing coming, something she would not enjoy in the least especially if she scratched the silver with those pointy teeth of hers!

Re'ka's Sofianist squire wasn't too keen on Impressing this particular clutch, but the worry over not Impressing at all saw the redhead standing there none the less, fingers entwined with one of their two particular friends and potentially planning on fudging their dragon's age should they in fact become bonded to a dragon sired by this particular coupling.

Really it was taking a lot of mental leaps and twists for Cai to rationalize it to themself. Evmeth and Malcarreth had they mated in a full weyr of strong healthy dragons that wasn't suffering from internal betrayal and attempts upon it's leaders life in addition to the arrival and mistreatment of Sereth herself might have only gotten a sideways glance and a sniff of disapproval, not the full weighty glare and seething distaste over what Cai thought was a grave betrayal of everything they held dear.

Cai, Jemi and Wen had done everything together for a long time though. It would have felt worse being far from them this morning. Judging by turns past, Cai felt fairly (if pessimistically) sure that their chances of Impressing this time were just as slim as it had been in the past. Still... Well Cai liked to blatantly lie to themself too. "I suppose they're the ones who have to deal with the worst of it when one does."

Cai's hand clenched as Jemi's question hit right where their thoughts had been just a moment before. "Honestly. No. And Yes. But no." Cai said in clipped tones, their lips pinching together. "More so than the last clutch... but I still don't approve of what they did."

~...............~

Pagerell touched the thin white scar on his throat and grimaced. A blade was a lot sharper than a dragon's claw, but an unexpected cut had a lot less force. He swallowed convulsively. "I can't imagine with how strict their training and rules are that she'd be allowed the chance to Stand again." Girls didn't stand in their time, not with the rest of the candidates at least and this wasn't giving him any confidence in their doing so today.

~....................~

Ja'line laughed. "Never make a woman angry B'ren! I thought you'd have learned that by now!" She scooched and made room for him to sit beside her. "What about stupid blues? Not exactly crushing stereotypes with your Hazmath you know." She poked him in the ribs and grinned.

Sanuyeth snorted. ~Not one I intend to let live through the encounter. ~ The green spoke matter-of-factly with a hint of satisfaction at the idea of destroying one of the vermin in her own claws. ~ Of course I've seen the hatchings. We're AT the Hatching dimglow. ~ She gently cuffed him with a wing and rolled her eyes. We've been well and busy. Second Wing never rests. She wasn't about to disclose the details of any of her missions. Those were for their leaders to discuss and share as needed. She'd had the need for discretion impressed upon her and anyways, seeing someone get rilled up over some secrecy was amusing.

Ra’fe watched the hatching with interest, he had bets riding and had made a bit throughout the entire process to afford a pair of nice black hose. Nothing fancy but well-fitting and sturdily made. Blues and greens but they were hatching just fine and impressing just as same as any other clutch. A healthy lot. He ran his hand through his short chin shorn hair, moving to tuck it back behind his ear in a growing habit.

He hadn't had short hair in ages, but it felt good to just be himself for once. He hadn't meant for L’thor to follow in his steps though… ehh. He still wasn't sure what to do about that one.

What he did notice was there was quiet a few special guests. It seemed that this clutch might bring along some interesting political bedfellows.

Vosin and Tiaeth

She leaned against the comfortable leg of her dragon. The hatching was proceeding as normal. Dragons were impressing which was a good thing. Candidates got ideas into their heads as usual as well. It was all normal so far.

His eyes whirled a happy blue-green as the young dragons paired off with their new riders.

Drudge Kialynka

She returned with another pair of meat filled buckets and set them on the tables. A quick head count told her some of the dragons had Impressed. A bright flash from the sands caught her attention. Silver? Kia stood on tiptoes to see over the mulling candidates. What was a silver headed stick doing in that green's mouth? She watched the dragon in question for a moment. Whatever had transpired the green was undoubtedly pleased with herself. Kia thought the silver part looked intricately done, though it looked like the stick itself had been broken.

Nash washed his hands and dried them with a cloth. “Still have a lot of eggs to hatch and impress,” he replied, simple and causally checked under his nails to make sure he hadn’t got anything trapped beneath. Satisfied he was clean he looked back at the hatching in progress. “I think I like whers better. Simple, mostly quiet hatchings whers. ‘Cept for mama.” Still, that was one person and not foolish children packed together and approaching dangerous hatchings. He shook his head.

Hulk is Strongest, meanwhile, had been rocking back and forth for some time - and now, finally, broke its shell. The huge egg yielded a massive dark blue figure, the blue stepping its way out confidently, shaking off albumen as he went. He paused to survey the candidates for a moment, then let out a deep and confident roar - at least, as deep as it was going to get for a hatchling - then began to move slowly towards them.

Bereck tsked and shook his head. "Well the hatchings I'll grant you," he said, and he left the rest distinctly unsaid. Nash could like the beasts all he wanted but Bereck's opinion was quite firmly set, etched into him one could say.

Qyprenna seemed to perk right up the moment that Hulk broke free from his shell. She grinned at the hatchling, unable to keep herself from smiling as she remembered her experience of touching his egg. It was brief, but the little guy seemed to like her then, though he was afraid that he had scared her at the time. It wasn't Hulk that scared her, however. Fight as One was the one that threw her for a loop.

She chuckled at his roar and shook her head. Perhaps he would find the one who would be his partner among their ranks? Anxiously, she waited to see who that person might be. Although she didn't say it out loud, Hulk was one of her favorite eggs from the Touching. A small part of her wished that it might be her, but she wasn't going to get her hopes up.
