Chel's jaw set again, and she covered the motion by laying down on the end of his bed, brown hair trailing down the side of the bed like a dishwater waterfall. Her eyes were on the ceiling, then Jack when she had conquered the feeling.

"Oh yes, graveyards. Nothin' like the inevitably of death to make you wanna scoot closer," she teased him. "As long as you dopes think it's fun I guess. Clearly I'm not someone to talk on romance s**t-" It was still endlessly odd that the only person she felt comfortable about talking about Jack to was indeed Jack himself. "-Choosin' to get friendzoned and s**t."

She smiled though, something she'd been doing more and more for the wrong reasons. "But for what it's worth, I think it's pretty nice you guys found your thing. Even if you ********' romance like an alien."

And there she went, tossing out one of the things he didn't want to field in any conversation with Chel as casually as she pleased. He knew it was an act; the dent in the locker proved it. But he disliked even more that she carried on like it was nothing anyway right in front of him, smiling and joking like it wasn't eating at her like he was very sure it was; Jack didn't believe for a minute she was happy for them and was insulted by the perceived lie. The least she could have done if that was the case, though, was to just avoid mentioning it all together. It wasn't like he wasn't very clearly aware of her status every damn time she touched him.

But like with Abbi, he kept his mouth shut. He was starting to wonder why.

A muscle flexing in his jaw, Jack finished the water bottle off and tossed it at the trash can, though it missed it by inches. He breathed a sigh. (Deep breaths, remember.) "You're not far off, really. Sometimes it's good to remind yourself you're alive," he said with quiet sobriety. "Where I lived, there was a cemetery a few streets down. I used to go and read the names on the graves, sometimes see who was visited and who wasn't. But mostly I liked sitting there because it felt...I dunno. Peaceful. And like you weren't really alone. It was kinda comforting, I guess, it's hard to explain without sounding like I'm a goth wannabe."

Jack leaned over to get his now cold coffee. "It was also beautiful in autumn and winter," he added mildly as he drank.

"Nah I feel you," Chel agreed. "I always found cemeteries nice. My friends and I used to eat lunch in one that was a street down from my high school." That was a fact, at least. "Dunno if I'd agree with your reasons about it being like a ********' reminder of life, but I at least know what you mean."

She laughed as Jack missed and sharply said, "But you didn't do it 'cause you liked it, you did it 'cause Hanna likes gothic s**t." There was a look to him. "Right?"

"Did you? Huh. Figured you would be too busy causing someone trouble to stop and smell the remembrance bouquets."

He eyed Chel over his mug and raised his brows. "What do you mean?" he asked. "What, the date? It mixed coffee and graveyards, why wouldn't I like it?"

Chel shook her head. "Nah, I think you just wanted to win. Show you could be a better boyfriend than she could be a girlfriend. Same as with the songs." The fact that it was coffee and a graveyard was a pleasant coincidence.

She peeked her head up, dopey smile on her face. "Am I right?"

Snorting, his face wrinkled with faint amusement. "You're starting to lose me. How is going on a date that was her idea just me trying to one-up her?" he asked and, prodding Chel with his foot, continued, "And why d'you keep insulting me, huh? Not everything I do is about competition. I think you're just having a hard time accepting I can enjoy myself."

Chel pushed his foot away with an "Augh, gross."

She could tell that this was quickly going nowhere. "Jackles you know m'never gonna beat you in an argument. Ain't no point in tryin' to explain myself." She shrugged. "Just think about it."

To his latter comment, she stuck out her tongue and said, "Maybe I don't want you to."

Jack wiggled his toes in response before moving to poke her again. "Yeah, the whole stealing me away from my girlfriend part," he said. "I remember. Did you pull AK into this? I'm gonna call low blow if you did because she's got nothing to do with either of you, but she still tried acting like the authority on my life decisions."

"Grossss cut it outtt," Chel whined, swiping at his feet before sitting up and frowning at him. It wasn't real unhappiness though- that didn't seem to happen around Jack.

She crossed her arms immaturely nonetheless and turned up her nose. "I ain't need nobody's help takin' you away, least of all Abbi's." But she softened and said, "What'd Abbi do? Or are you just pissed about the present still?"

For a moment he seemed to listen to her plea and retracted his foot. "Bullshit about me sabotaging my happiness," he replied with a shrug, pushing his glasses up and finishing the last of his coffee so he could set that aside too. Might as well be honest since that was supposed to be their policy. "Of course, she's also dead set against Hanna without even meeting her, just 'cause she's not you. Hence me asking if you'd gotten her recruited to the desperate attempt to keep my attention," he said airily.

And then he tried poking her one more time, starting to grin. He felt similar sentiments that Chel had felt with her juicebox.

Chel just ******** sat on his feet because ******** you Jack.

"That's ******** stupid," Chel said, blatantly disagreeing with Abbi. Certainly she agreed with her sentiment (that it should be her and not Hanna) for obvious reasons, but the way of going about it ... "Seriously, ******** that. You already know how I feel about you, that's all I'm gonna say. If you're happy with Hanna I'm not gonna tell everyone to sabotage you what the ********. I'm the only one who-"

Chel crossed her arms and stared very angrily at Jack's floor. "Makes me mad. Like I'm a ******** pity party."

He laughed at her counter measure in spite of himself and wiggled his foot a little just to be defiant. "Yeah, hey, I get it, Chel," Jack said after calming down. "I'm the very last person to be telling you not to mope about someone. But I agree, no ******** pity parties allowed in here except the ones I sanction."

Picking Barbara back up, Jack located his pick and started to strum a slower version of "Only the Young", since she had mentioned Journey, though it also required some interpretation on his part. He didn't quite remember the lyrics since the sheet music in his book hadn't added them for some reason, but he hummd what he recalled to supplement it.

And his foot wiggled some more to the beat beneath her.

With every wobble of his foot she just bobbed along. Like hell if she was getting off now.

"I'll mope about you all I want," she said defiantly. "But I don't want you to-"

A beep cut her off mid-sentence. This time not her bracelet, but instead an alarm she'd set on her phone. Duty called.

"Ughhhh." More annoyance to add to her pile. She'd been feeling pretty okay the entire time (albeit jealousy, of course), but this newfound information about Abbi had rubbed her fur the wrong way. "I got lighthouse duty." It took a lot of her willpower to heave herself off the bed. She picked up the jacket from the ground where she'd left it, looking around for where she'd kicked off her shoes. "You see where it went?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 07, 2014 6:51 pm

"See what?" he asked, inwardly sighing as the alarm went off. He continued to strum, though not as loud. "And what don't you want me to do?" Naturally so he could remember to do it at some point to annoy her.

"My shoes."

She had one boot on, but the other was hiding.

"I don't want you to date me 'cause you feel bad. I don't ever want that," she grumbled. "Not that it matters, since ya ain't gonna date me anyways. Circles, see?"

Finally she noticed it hidden near the doorway, and she sat on the ground to put it on. "I'll talk to Abbi, 'kay? Sorry she gave you a hard time. Little a*****e."
