Chel had slid back onto the bed on her side facing Jack by the time he made his journey down to the pillow. When he'd finally settled in, she was infinitely grateful for the darkness hiding the light red color coming across her face because Jack's nose was less than a foot from hers.

"Yeah he saw bad guys in the distance which helped them escape." Talking about Lord of the Rings in bed with a guy she was in love with. No big deal. "Glasses? Why?"

Put like that, maybe he did need elf eyes..."Mmmnnnnnah," Jack decided after a beat. "Give me Mystical Elvish Future Sight like Arwen instead." See every problem as well as the future.

"But yeah, glasses. Horseman ******** with my eyes in the Sahara. S'why I can't stand light so much anyway." His head lolled against the pillow after a while, the pain blossoming from his cheek going mostly unheeded since at least the pillow was still cool. "I have your sunglasses, y'know. Should probably give 'em back."

Chel began taking a hand and stroking his back. Not in a sexual way, just a completely platonic sort of back rub. Jack looked like he could use it.

"Keep 'em," she told him. "Ya need 'em more than me." She had been curious why he was keeping them. Again it was naive to think it had been because they were hers. She really had to stop getting her hopes up like that.

"We can go shoppin' later fer-" She stops and reroutes herself. "Oh ... I guess we can't. Just promise to send me pictures when you're pickin'." It was hardly compensation, but at least she would kind of feel part of the process, however pathetic that sounded. "Gotta make sure ya ain't pickin' ugly ones."

He realized what she was doing five seconds after the fact and simultaneously felt soothed as well as an uncomfortable pressure in his chest. Platonic or otherwise, she was touching him too much, and he was letting her.

"Don't." He couldn't physically stop her every time, but most of his power was centered in his words anyway. Even pillow-muffled words.

Chel thought for a moment about continuing.

But she was timid, and afraid of Jack's wrath. He was unpredictable, and that made her very predictable.

The hand retracted and she said, "Sorry." Just like always. "Just seemed like ya could use it after all your s**t." Which was continually and endlessly ironic, because nobody offered her backrubs or offered to put her pieces back together. She always had to do it by herself, but never gave others the opportunity to feel alone. Where she'd learned such a behavior was a mystery.

A silence pressed the air, and she forced herself to fill it. "You're gonna pick some ugly grandpa pair aren't you."

He hated that part of him wished she wouldn't listen, just for an excuse to let it keep going. His initial reaction to things was almost always a rebuff; sometimes that got tiring.

"S'okay," he found himself saying, still partially into the pillow. His eyelids began to fall. "I get it, maybe. Help someone else out, forget your own s**t while y'do. Lina used t'do that. Always offering t'help, always checking in, always—touching. Both've you just...too ********' nice t'me. Y'should help yourselves."

He breathed in his own scent for a while, letting the air conditioning dry the beads of sweat on his skin. If he lied still long enough, he could cool off quicker.

"Wouldn't know what those are," he replied, then coughed when he should have chuckled. "AK'll make sure I don't get anything ugly, though. Apparently she knows what makes things boss."

Chel was unsure how she felt about being compared to "Lina." Who was Lina? Some past girlfriend? An overly friendly person such as herself? It was a mystery.

"Who's Lina?" she asked bluntly. She thought about mentioning the fact that helping Jack did help her, but she was silent.

At his cough she subconsciously patted his back, only to remember no touching and retracted the hand once he'd finished the action. "Abbi is going with you? Jesus Christ now you really have to send me pictures. She's gonna pick something out of a cartoon." Chel did laugh there, and it was a nice laugh.

"Don't think she'd 'ppreciate your lack've faith," he said. "It's disturbing." His own chuckle was a little better, but it died quickly.

"She's Stormy here. Ex girlfriend. Still a ******** stupid name." He lolled his head to the other side, gingerly wrapping an arm under and then over the pillow.

"Ohhhh," Chel said, gears clicking together and comprehension returning. He knew Jack had dated Stormy and that it had somehow ended, and that was the extent of her knowledge. Now she knew that Stormy had for some reason changed her name. Weird.

All while grinning because a sleepy Jack was a cute Jack too. "You don't like Stormy? The name I mean. I think it's kinda cool. Makes her sound like a superhero or some s**t." It was a weird change, but she didn't necessarily dislike it. Maybe it was because she'd always known Stormy as Stormy? It wasn't like she was just going to start calling the girl Lina now. Too weird.

While still sleepy, his time grew harsher. "Bullshit, you mean. Superhero? ********' bullshit. None've us are."

He licked his dry lips and tasted the sweat collecting around them. "Get me some water if you're gonna stay up."

Chel frowned a confused frown at Jack. He was really stuck on Stormy.

She was laying in bed just the same as him, but apparently she was still denoted as the one who had to get water. She rolled her eyes, but her body pulled upwards, out from under the covers. Without Jack as a personal heater it was very very cold. No like.

"Cold cold cold," was her little chant as she fumbled her way to the fridge in the dark. He'd mentioned it was in here right? She also noted quite a bit of alcohol. "Someone's gettin' tipsy in the club." She doubted he would know that song, but returned to the bed with an opened water bottle (she screwed the lid back on so as to not spill it, but opening it once made it easier to open the second time), setting it next to his cheek- the one with the bruises so it could act like a miniature ice pack for the moment.

With that, she clambered back into the bed, because she was unsure where to put herself. She was just kind of floating for the moment, unsure of why she was hurting herself by being here. "Hanna's lucky she gets to do this all the time," she blurted out before she could stop herself.

While she went to get water, Jack pulled his arm out from under the pillow and forced himself onto his back again. It took conscious effort not to stretch out over the bed while she was off like he would have normally. The alcohol he didn't acknowledge, though he didn't really need to. Sometimes they took off the edge just enough to let him sleep. Or socialize. Or even think sometimes.

Mumbling thanks, he took the bottle and put it under his chin. "Do what?" he asked. "She doesn't stay over. M'being classy about it." More like he didn't want her to see him like this, which in a word could only be described as pathetic.

"What the ********>," Chel said with a smirk. "You two waiting for marriage or somethin'?" That really made her laugh, and it was something akin to the obnoxious noise she used to make.

She didn't lay back down but she did stay sitting under the blanket, sitting on her knees facing Jack. "Don't tell me she's a virgin?"

He groaned. "None've your business. I just feel like keeping it classy. She's got standards, so do I. M'not Finn, I don't ******** 'em like I see 'em."

With a grunt he slowly pushed himself up against the pillow, uncorked the bottle, and drained it dry. A satisfied sigh left him.

Chel let out a harty laugh now. She didn't know why it was so funny. Maybe it was because at the core of what he was saying, she was really quite sad.

"Oh my god you haven't ******** her yet." She slumped down to the pillow level, finally ready to lay with Jack without feeling embarrassed. "Incredible. She a dead fish or what?" She covered her mouth and said, "Sorry, sorry. Too far I know. Just think ya got a weird way of showin' love Hawthorne." She whistled something low and said, "Need more?" She was referring to the water.
