"You would be wise to watch your tongue girl," Savarah snapped to Vosin, her lips pressing together in a fine line of controlled anger. "Of course times are difficult for us but we wouldn't be here at all if we had continued to bow to the Weyrs and their foolish ways! They believe that riders such as myself should automatically bow to riders such as Anali and A'nos merely because their dragons shine, and that anyone without a dragon is barely worth considering at all! Ha, they even restrict their golds to breeding and domestic management without a thought for other talents they might have, others dreams they might like to chase! How would you feel - bold girl - if you Impressed a gold in a Weyr and learned that you would spend most of your days within the walls of the Weyr counting tithes? Would that life suit you? Would life life of a green rider within a Weyr suit you any better? We took a stand for what is right, for what is just, and if that is screwing ourselves then so be it!"
The Councillor paused there for a moment, scanning the faces of the candidates with hardened eyes.
"Times are hard and we riders of the wherholds are fewer than all of the riders in Trine Weyr but we are stronger than they are. Because of the hardships we face and because we allow people to take the places that suit them best rather than consigning them to a role in life based on only the colour of their bondmate I believe that we have the greatest Thread fighting force on the face of Pern. No matter the squalls and the fall of the Thread we shall prevail and our numbers shall grow not only from clutches but from riders fleeing the oppression of the Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders. Mark my works Vosin, by the time you are my age the ways of the Weyrs will be dying out while ours spread to all corners of the continents."
