Anita and Minerva both chuckled as she released Tango. The hound was quick to resume his greeting to Mordekai after he shook hands. ”Minerva. Pff, don't even worry about it. You want one?”
Cruz's head lifted higher. Anita gestured vaguely in a welcoming fashion to Mordekai, then held her hand out. ”Gimme your trash.” She pulled out her own pocket full.
Things were fine.
The frei departed from his sofa fortress, his safety barrier, and approached them. His fingers weaved together, slid and knit, as he hovered nearby. ”Did you have a good time?”
”Yeah, it was nice,” Anita smiled easily while watching Tango.

Mordekai knelt down and extended his arms toward Tango to greet him proper, his smile full. He scratched behind Tango's ears and looked up at Minerva, grinning from ear to ear, and shook his head, “Minerva, got it-- an' no, s'fine, don't wanna be takin' all your food-- but thank ya.”
He sat with legs crossed as he settled into hugging and petting Tango without much intention to let go-- Mordekai held Tango close and shook his head at the idea of giving up the straws, though he chuckled and relented soon after nonetheless. He dug into his pockets and handed Anita the used ones, then glanced up at Cruz. He nodded at the question.
“Was great! Oh, wait, Cruz, c'mere--” he let go of Tango and searched through his pockets-- when he found a fresh straw, he unwrapped it, twisted it, and held it out to the Frei, all childlike expectations and amused smile abound-- he wasn't sure if Anita ever showed Cruz this, but it was worth a try, anyway. “Flick it on the center.”

”Suit yourself,” Minerva leaned back with her hands on her hips and a keen smile. Teal eyes watched the canine and his companion as they exchanged affection, Tango returning each of Mordekai's scratches and pets with a nudge of his nose or a lick at his beard. ”Looks like you've got a very forgiving boyfriend.” She grinned and tapped Anita's side while moving back to the kitchen. Sandwich time.
Anita scoffed at both of them and shook her head, combining their trash together as a single handful and carrying it to the can. She clapped her hands off and took a napkin. Some of her drink had leaked from under the cap and the plastic cup had been sweating the whole walk back.
”Good,” Cruz breathed. Everyone else was smiling, so he did the same. As Mordekai adjusted, Tango continued sniffing and licking at him, now settling for his shirt as he took big whiffs. He smelled like the coffee shop interior despite only being inside briefly. Cruz raised his brows and watched as Mordekai prepared the straw. He tilted his head and leaned closer to inspect it, readying a curious finger to flick.
She had in fact not shared this with him after all and, when the center of its structure was punctured and the soft pop broke the apartment quiet, both Cruz and Tango leaned back in wonder. Cruz's eyes and smile brightened while Tango's ears folded back. He quickly returned to whining and trying to lick Mordekai's face.
”Are you staying for dinner?” Minerva raised her brows at Mordekai before taking a bite of her sandwich.

Mordekai nodded in confirmation and returned to giving the whole of his attention to Tango; he laughed as Tango licked his beard and leaned back slightly, tilting his head away to speak, though he did nothing to stop him. “He's the best,” he commented, blue eyes staring with childlike contentment back at up at Minerva. He caught a glimpse of Anita, too, then chuckled back at Cruz.
His amusement with the straw now lay more in Cruz and Tango's reaction than the actual noise. “Surprise! Sorry 'bout the noise, Tango,” he laughed quietly while putting away the used straw in his pocket, then went back to scratching Tango with both hands on the back. He looked up to Cruz as if to say something, though he turned toward Minerva at the question.
“Oh! Nah, I can't, gotta make Duncan some dinner back home,” he smiled nonetheless, “Thanks for offerin', though. Whatcha makin' tonight?”

Smiles bloomed on every face at Mordekai's assertion about Tango. They had to agree. Cruz drifted lower the more he felt at ease. His smile became more natural. Even if this had only turned out to be a friendly rendezvous as all previous, at least they hadn't figured out he was the perpetrator. It was nice seeing them both happy.
Tango's ears laid back on his head and his tail wagged faster at the apology. Still, he tried to give Mordekai as many kisses as possible but the man wouldn't let him get at his mouth. Frustrating!
”Ah, gotcha. Man's gotta eat, too,” Minerva laughed and winked at Anita as she walked to the couch and pulled herself to sit on the back, ”Not sure yet. Feeling kinda lasagna tonight. What do you think?”
Anita kicked her heels lightly against the back of the sofa, ”Cheese me.” She turned back to Mordekai and grinned. ”Guess you shouldn't keep him waiting... especially if you want to catch the rain.” The blinds were drawn away from the balcony windows, showing that the clouds from before had finally reached shore. ”If you're in the area again and you feel like it, let me know. We should do that again.”
Cruz's gaze flicked to Anita, his heart and rune thrumming for a moment – but, of course she would want to hang out with a friend again. That didn't mean anything more than that.

Mordekai laughed and held Tango close; he wriggled a bit at how many kisses he was being given. He eased into their farewell by giving Tango a few scratches on the forehead, then made sure to let go and slowly wiggle away before standing up. He smiled down at the saarloos, then at Minerva. He snapped his finger lightly.
“Damn, I'm missin' somethin' good,” he chuckled, “Gonna have to steal your idea if we got enough tomatoes.”
He nodded toward Anita and grinned back, then made his way toward the door-- he stuffed one hand in one of his pants pockets. He took out the key ring and jangled it in his hand, just to confirm they were there, then perked up at the thought of rain-- he laughed, though somewhat sheepish about his excitement over the weather. “Yeah, you're right-- got a few hours 'fore dinnertime anyway, thank God.”
Mordekai raised his brows, a bit surprised that Anita offered for coffee again. His expression eased into a candid smile, though, and he raised his hand toward Anita in farewell. “Will do, yeah! Got farmer's market stuff to do up near here, so I'll text ya.” He looked toward Minerva, Cruz, and Tango again, too, while opening the door to leave. Even if the excursion was fairly short, he hadn't had a chance to sit down with someone like that in a long time. It woke him up a little, and he felt a calm kind of happy.
“See y'all later-- have a good day!” He waved again before walking past the threshold. He closed the door behind him, stood straight, and glanced out toward the hallway. He breathed in, smiled calmly, and left for the car.
