Yes. She was...trying not to cry. Not stupid blubbering crying, but tears and sniffles. Stupid tears. Stupid tears and stupid Sherry. She just wanted to go back to bed.

"You're not?" She looked up. That is exactly what she'd thought. Based on her worst fears and past experiences...well. Jake breaking up with her had seemed likely. "But I..." She looked away again. Clingy, needy, silly. She didn't want to be those things. So what if she slept better when not alone? He... had always been hesitant. Oh, she was a terrible person, wasn't she? <******** safety, and I like your bad habits." Okay, so she was exaggerating, it was all emotions. "But... but if it will make you happy..."

One day, Sherry would learn and remember that Jake doesn't do well with subtlety. One day. Maybe.

At that moment, she smiled, a small smile, at his confirmation of not breaking up. See, she really was silly. Silly and--

The smile was gone a moment later. Her eyes went back to the floor. Way to go, she'd gone and upset him. So foolish. "I'm sorry." She was fidgeting with her fingers, with the ring on her hand. "I am a hypocrite, aren't I?" She smiled at him again, trying to hide her sadness. "I overreacted. I...I'm sorry. I was expecting the worst today, you know? And then...I guess I just assumed you were going to end things... on a romantic level again. I'm sorry." She shrugged.

"You're right," she repeated. "It's probably better to not share a bed." She had to look away again, telling herself to hush. She couldn't explain why it hurt so much. She was probably just being emotional. "Thank you, for watching out for me." She was sincere about it.

She was trying really hard to deal with all the emotions. The past day had just sucked. So it was a relief when Jake calmed down. Sherry really didn't want to fight, she just wanted them to talk about things. She wanted-

Pretty much what he did next.

"I'm not settling for anything," she said, squeezing his hand. "I'm with you because I love you and I want to be." She cried when she was happy, too. With a smile, she moved in for a hug. "I don't want to end it, I never did. And I'm sorry. About pushing things further. I didn't mean to push so hard, I shouldn't be upset about it." She shook her head. "I'm not upset about it. I... I was honestly afraid your hesitation was a build up to rejecting me. I know that's silly, but, I'm silly. So. Thank you, for telling me how you feel."

She kissed his cheek. "I promise I want nothing more than to be with you. Even if this is all we ever have."

Sherry was just afraid of it all crumbling away again, without warning. Or with warning. But she didn't want to think about how things could go wrong. Not after... not after they'd finally smoothed out a few of the bumps in their relationship.

So she sighed happily, nodding. He was right again. The mess was not going to take care of itself, sadly. And a nap did sound-- Wait. "And you call me a hypocrite?" She made sure to laugh. It was a joke, Jake. "But I could use a nap, too. Making this mess was hard work." Not to mention all the crying and stuff.

Sherry looked at him, a little bewildered. Then she shook her head and smiled, blinking back tears. He probably had no idea how much she appreciated that invitation. It was reassuring and it made her happy. Even if it did seem to go against what he'd just suggested earlier. But they were going to do this on his terms. And she was fine with that.

"Just a quick one," she agreed, moving over to join him. She was even still in her pajamas.

Hopefully he'd be okay with snuggles.
