Normally, anything strength-based was absolutely well within Jeanne's wheelhouse, so she was fairly confident she would do just fine carrying Marlin as far as she needed to.
What she was not counting on was a sudden, shooting pain in her abdomen, and it was a physical effort to not burst into a long string of swears in Creole French.
Instead, she gave Marlin half a smile. "Sorry 'bout that, injury actin' up."

Tali took a breath. She was pretty petite, so carrying another person wasn't exactly something she looked forward to. And yet she did it anyway, and she did it pretty damn well.
"Oh, hey!" She said, pleasantly surprised, "I guess I'm stronger than I thought!"
Luca felt a little uneasy about this particular trial for some reason. She thought she had done well on exercises that predicted carrying ability, but that thought clearly didn't transfer to today's performance. Her grasp on Hannah's ankles for the ankle pull was too loose, the shoulder pull baffled her (how was she supposed to grasp the clothes without accidentally pulling Hannah's shirt off?), and the other lifts... well, she just sucked at those. She just couldn't seem to pick Hannah up properly for some reason. "Sorry," she said, as though that would somehow make up for how she'd bungled the whole thing. Today was not her day, it seemed.
Hafwen had an unreadable expression on her face by the time Kaatje was done demonstrating the five different methods of carrying someone around on her own. She was actually glad that Arian was volunteering to go first for this since that would give her some time to ponder over the various methods before going eventually for the one or two that would suit a person of her physique.
When it eventually came to her turn to carry Arian around, she took her time with it, making sure at the very least that if her strength failed her mid-way, that Arian wouldn't be injured and then have to actually seek proper medical attention.

"That was not heartening," said Kaatje to Keren, privately. "Alright, alright," she said to the group at large. "This'll be easy. I hope. Chill out, put your partner down gently, and let's take a walk."
She corralled a few of them to pull all the desks to the side, and said, "So, for giggles, we're going to do it again. But... as a race."
This was definitely not going to get any of them hurt. At all. Kaatje took out her phone with a chipper smile, and said, "Whoever's name comes second in the alphabet gets to carry. So, carriers: Finn, Tali, Raleigh, Mary, Bo, Hafwen, Marlin, Luca, and Laney." Was she going to take pictures? She was so going to take pictures.
"Line up on my right. So this side." She gestured. "Everyone ready?... Go."

Laney had just finished doing an expressive series of muscle-flexing bodybuilder poses at Finn from across the room when Kaatje announced their grand race. She gave Darren a wry smile when their team's carrier was announced, then started digging around for something in her bag while other people rearranged themselves to get lined up. She handed three long straw-looking objects to Darren and started tearing the tops of them.
"'I swear on the soul of my father, Domingo Montoya,'" she declared with solemn drama, "'you will reach the top alive.' Okay, now Pixie Stix me, give me a high five, and pray really, really hard that nobody gets a herniated disc." Laney opened her mouth, pointing at it to indicate that this was the Fuel Injection Area and the driver should add Pixie Stix to it for best results.
Popeye himself, on two cans of spinach, could scarcely have run a better race.

Hafwen hadn't done so badly carrying him last time round so Arian was pretty okay with her doing so again. He was just glad that it was down to him to do the racing and carrying since at some point between the last exercise and now he seemed to have developed a streak of the awkward and the only good thing to say was the fact that at least he hadn't hurt anyone.
It also seemed to suggest that his success previously, had been down to just beginner's luck.
Marlin wasn't sure that he wanted to repeat the whole carrying thing as a race thing, in fact the whole race thing seemed like a ad idea, particularly as the red-haired woman organising the thing seemed to be totally about to film the whole thing. Then again, he'd pretty okay last time and he reckoned the mechanics would be the same just with speed behind it.
Trying to carry someone and race with them wasn't easy, particularly was he was mindful that said partner had said earlier than an old injury had played up so Marlin had ended up sacrificing speed, despite this however he hadn't been the last in line and he hadn't dropped Jeanne either - so all in all again not too bad a job.

wasn't sure if you wanted to go back and backfill, but finally filled this in
"Wait what?" Luca wanted to throw in a didn't you see how bad I did? but didn't. With a nervous laugh, she said to Hannah, "Here we go again," and hoisted her up. Somehow, this round wasn't a total wreck. She did decently enough (and at least she didn't fumble poor Hannah this time), placing somewhere in the middle. After reaching the finish line, she gently set Hannah down and gave herself a back massage. At least she ended on a good enough note, right?
This was exactly what Hafwen had feared. Being made to carry Arian again and in a race to boot. She really hated to lose whenever an activity had some form of competition aspect tagged on to it but it wasn't like she had any choice in this so she gritted her teeth and put her best foot forward in the race anyway, just infinitely glad to make it across the finishing line without tripping over herself or dropping Arian en route.

This was more impressive. Kaatje cheered them on across the twenty-five feet of 'race' space, but the indisputable winner was Laney--who, after eating three pixy stix, seemed like an indefatigable engine of ally-carrying. "Nice job," she said; she would definitely have a chat with that Page. Laney seemed to have potential--a lot of them did. Maybe she'd start reaching out more instead of waiting for them to come to her?
"Thanks for turning out," said Kaatje to the group, once they'd rearranged the desks and gotten everyone seated again. She listed off her phone number and email again, mentioned her availability, and finally said: "Perhaps the lot of you have heard about what went down in that warehouse. I wanted to let you know, if you need to talk, I'm always around. So's Super Sailor Oenone--you know him as Nick Wellington, the tall guy who showed up last time and sucked at everything? Yeah. Okay--just come around. Door's unlocked. We can talk." She gave the address for Florence Court--FloCo as Finn seemed inclined to call it.
With a smile, she said, "Dismissed! Have a good one. Don't forget to grab some Gatorade and a granola bar on your way out."
Congratulations to Laney, Darren, Marlin, and Jeanne! Torvil missed a round, so litian and Songstress Kitsune get first pick of whether they'd like sticks or headshots. smile

(( OH GOD -- SO SORRY! I was on a trip from Thursday to Tuesday with my school. I shall do a pathetic wrap up post, apologies. ))
When Bo arrived, he found the location empty. He spent thirty minutes walking around and trying to open windows and doors, but to no avail. With a shrug, he jogged off in another direction, in search of some other great adventure, maybe?

Maggie offered Laney a grin as she took a handful of Pirate's Booty, but then things were underway before she knew it. She went through the ropes, doing a job not as excellent as she expected from herself, before giving everyone a wave with her good hand and heading home.
"You're awesome at this," she said to Laney, by way of goodbye.
